In this paper,we report on the crystal structure and magnetic properties of the nano structured Baordered phases of rare-earth manganites obtained from the optimally doped solid solutions Ln0.70Ba0.30MnO3(Ln=Pr,Nd).The materials were studied by X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy,energy dispersive spectroscopy and SQUID-magnetometry *** is found that states with different degrees of cation ordering in the A-sublattice of the ABO3 perovskite can be obtained by employing special conditions of chemical *** particular,reduction of the parent compounds results in the formation of a nanocomposite containing ferrimagnetic anion-deficient ordered phase *** of the composite does not change an average size of the nanocrystallites,but drastically alters their phase composition to stabilize ferromagnetic stoichiometric ordered phase LnBaMn2O6 and ferromagnetic superstoichiometric disordered phase Ln0.90Ba0.10MnO3+δ.It is shown that the magnetic properties of the materials are determined by the joint action of chemical(cation ordering)and external(surface tension)pressures.

Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is the most common type of dementia,but it is very difficult to diagnose with certainty,so many AD studies have attempted to find early and relevant diagnostic *** upon activation,normal T cell expressed and secreted(RANTES,also known as C-C chemokine ligand)is a chemokine involved in the migration of T cells and other lymphoid *** in RANTES levels and its expression in blood or in cerebrospinal fluid have been reported in some neurodegenerative diseases,such as Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis,but also in metabolic diseases in which inflammation plays a *** aim of this observational study was to assess RANTES levels in peripheral blood as clinical indicators of *** levels of RANTES were investigated in 85 AD patients in a relatively early phase of AD(median 8.5 months after diagnosis;39 men and 46 women;average age 75.7 years),and in 78 control subjects(24 men and 54 women;average age 66 years).We found much higher plasma levels of RANTES in AD patients compared to controls.A negative correlation of RANTES levels with age,disease duration,Fazekas scale score,and the medial temporal lobe atrophy(MTA)score(Scheltens’s scale)was found in AD patients,i.e.,the higher levels corresponded to earlier stages of the *** RANTES levels were not correlated with cognitive *** AD patients,RANTES levels were positively correlated with the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α,which is consistent with the wellknown fact that AD is associated with inflammatory *** levels were also positively correlated with insulin levels in AD patients,with insulin resistance(HOMA-R)and pancreatic beta cell function(HOMA-F).This study evaluated several clinical and metabolic factors that may affect plasma levels of RANTES,but these factors could not explain the increases in RANTES levels observed in AD *** levels of RANTES appear to be an interesting

Assessing impact of land use and climate change on regulating ecosystem services in the Czech Republic

Ecosystem services,defined as benefits provided by ecosystem functioning to society,are essential to human *** to global environmental change and related anthropogenic drivers,ecosystems are often degraded,which hinders the delivery of ecosystem *** study aims to quantify the impacts of land use and climate change on two regulating ecosystem services-carbon sequestration and water purification in terms of nitrogen retention in the Czech *** employing approaches of scenarios and modeling,we illustrate current and potential future status of these ecosystem *** results show that among the ecosystem change drivers,one of the dominant domestic land-use change of ALARM BAMBU(Business-As Might Be Usual)scenario is change of arable land and grassland to forest area that increases by 4.5%in 2080 compared to *** results of ecosystem service modeling based on BAMBU scenario for the years 2050 and 2080 indicate that the highest yearly carbon sequestration rate occurred in 2000-2050,reaching 640 GgC·yr^(−1),2000-2080 shows decline in this regulating service by 16%.Average nitro-gen leaching to water streams reached 0.75 kgN·ha^(−1)·yr^(−1)for BAMBU in 2050 scenario and 0.80 kgN·ha^(−1)·yr^(−1)for BAMBU in 2080 scenario as a result of decreasing nitrogen load,which suggested a decrease in nitrogen pollution compared to *** ecosystem services have not been extensively mainstreamed into research and policies in eastern European countries,we aim to contribute to improvement of knowledge on current status and potential future pathways of the provision of regulating ecosystem services in the Czech Republic.

It is well established that in current human-dominated world,environmental change is closely coupled with socio-economic factors,and this is reflected in conceptual frameworks of important policies(Díaz et al.2015).Humans are adversely affecting biodiversity and climate change on a planetary scale(Rockström et al.2009).Anthropogenic transformation of ecosystems has been driven by rapid social and economic changes,manifested by direct drivers such as land use change and climate change(Nelson et al.2006).Central and Eastern Europe(CEE)has been a rap-idly transitioning region in terms of economic growth and political *** the collapse of former Eastern Bloc and revolutions in several CEE countries after 1989,CEE countries have been undergoing political and economic transformation toward democracy and free *** accession to the European Union also brought in changes of political environment and ecosystem management possibilities and *** socioeconomic changes have influenced environmental condition and ecosystem management in this region,with changing pres-sures on biodiversity and ecosystem *** changes in Central and Eastern Europe have been closely linked especially to agricultural *** example,inorganic fertilizer use in several CEE countries dropped in a single year to 25%of its former level after the collapse of ***,in turn,had an enormous impact on farmland biodiversity(Stoate et al.2009).

Analyzing Changes in Maize Leaves Orientation due to GxExM Using an Automatic Method from RGB Images

The sowing pattern has an important impact on light interception efficiency in maize by determining the spatial distribution of leaves within the *** orientation is an important architectural trait determining maize canopies light *** studies have indicated how maize genotypes may adapt leaves orientation to avoid mutual shading with neighboring plants as a plastic response to intraspecific *** goal of the present study is 2-fold:firstly,to propose and validate an automatic algorithm(Automatic Leaf Azimuth Estimation from Midrib detection[ALAEM])based on leaves midrib detection in vertical red green blue(RGB)images to describe leaves orientation at the canopy level;and secondly,to describe genotypic and environmental differences in leaves orientation in a panel of 5 maize hybrids sowing at 2 densities(6 and 12 plants.m^(−2))and 2 row spacing(0.4 and 0.8 m)over 2 different sites in southern *** ALAEM algorithm was validated against in situ annotations of leaves orientation,showing a satisfactory agreement(root mean square[RMSE]error=0.1,R^(2)=0.35)in the proportion of leaves oriented perpendicular to rows direction across sowing patterns,genotypes,and *** results from ALAEM permitted to identify significant differences in leaves orientation associated to leaves intraspecific *** both experiments,a progressive increase in the proportion of leaves oriented perpendicular to the row is observed when the rectangularity of the sowing pattern increases from 1(6 plants.m^(−2),0.4 m row spacing)towards 8(12 plants.m^(−2),0.8 m row spacing).Significant differences among the 5 cultivars were found,with 2 hybrids exhibiting,systematically,a more plastic behavior with a significantly higher proportion of leaves oriented perpendicularly to avoid overlapping with neighbor plants at high *** in leaves orientation were also found between experiments in a squared sowing pattern(6 plants.m^(−2),0.4 m

Effect of welding parameters on semisolid stir welding of Mg-9Al-1Zn magnesium alloy

Semisolid stir welding of AZ91 was investigated with focus on the joining temperature and rotational speed. An Mg-25%Zn interlayer was located between two AZ91 pieces and the system was heated up to the semisolid state of base metal and interlayer. The weld seam was stirred using a drill-tip at different joining temperatures and rotational speeds. Optical and scanning electron microscopes were employedto study microstructure, cavity formation, and segregation. Hardness profile and shear punch test werealso employed to rank the welds based on their quality and homogeneity. Results showed that the lowest cavity content （2.1%） withthemaximum ultimate shear strength （about 188 MPa） was obtained in weld with the joining temperatureof530℃ and the rotational speedof1600 r/min. Low quality welds and a reduction of ultimate shear strength were observed at very high orlow rotational speeds and joining temperatures. The process, in conclusion, produced close mechanical properties to those of thebase metal and homogenous quality throughout the joint, when the intermediate temperature and rotational speeds were employed.

Potential prospects of nanomedicine for targeted therapeutics in inflammatory bowel diseases

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) such as Crohn's disease are highly debilitating. There are inconsistencies in response to and side effects in the current conventional medications, failures in adequate drug delivery, and the lack of therapeutics to offer complete remission in the presently available treatments of IBD. This suggests the need to explore beyond the horizons of conventional approaches in IBD therapeutics. This review examines the arena of the evolving IBD nanomedicine, studied so far in animal and in vitro models, before comprehensive clinical testing in humans. The investigations carried out so far in IBD models have provided substantial evidence of the nanotherapeutic approach as having the potential to overcome some of the current drawbacks to conventional IBD therapy. We analyze the pros and cons of nanotechnology in IBD therapies studied in different models, aimed at different targets and mechanisms of IBD pathogenesis, in an attempt to predict its possible impact in humans.

In vitro study of lovastatin interactions with amiodarone and with carbon tetrachloride in isolated rat hepatocytes

AIM： To investigate the interactions at a metabolic level between Iovastatin, amiodarone and carbon tetrachloride in isolated rat hepatocytes.METHODS： For cell isolation two-step collagenase liver perfusion was performed. Lovastatin was administered alone in increasing concentrations （1μmol/L, 3μmol/L, 5μmol/L and 10μmol/L） and in combination with CCh （86μmol/L）. The cells were also pretreated with 14μmol/L amiodarone and then the other two compounds were added. RESULTS： Lovastatin promoted concentration-dependent significant toxicity estimated by decrease in cell viability and GSH level by 45% and 840, respectively, LDH- activity increased by 114% and TBARS content by 90%, CCl4 induced the expected severe damage on the examined parameters, CCh induced toxicity was attenuated after Iovastatin pretreatment, which was expressed in less increased values of LDH activity and TBARS levels, as well as in less decreased cell viability and GSH concentrations, However, the pretreatment of hepatocytes with amiodarone abolished the protective effect of Iovastatin. CONCLUSION： We suggest that the observed cytoprotective effect was due to interactions between Iovastatin, CCh and amiodarone at a metabolic level.

Language Use and Language Learning in POA

One of the outcomes of the thought provoking and stimulating conference for me was the realisation that some of the problems experienced in the Chinese context are similar to the ones Hungarian foreign language education faces. The first such issue is the efficiency of language teaching in Hungary. According to a European Union survey （European Commission, 2012）, Hungary occupies the bottom place with regard to the number of Hungarians who can speak languages other than their mother tongue. This is despite the fact that the number of teaching hours during the first two years of foreign language teaching is among the highest in Hungary within the EU （European Commission/EACEA/ Eurydice, p. 105）, and that recommended minimum for annual instruction time for foreign languages in compulsory education is more than the time spent teaching foreign languages in Austria, which is 1 lth among the 28 EU countries regarding the knowledge of foreign languages （European Commission/EACEA/Eurydice, pp. 106-7）. Secondly, it seems that in Hungary, too, there is a gap between the input and the output in that the input does not always result in intake materialising in the learners＇ output. One perhaps weak excuse for the dire state of Hungarian language education may be that Hungarian, similarly to Chinese, is not an Indo-European language, albeit it is not as different from English as Chinese.
