Efficacy of gabapentin for low back pain at a tertiary hospital: A prospective observational study

Objective:To assess the efficacy of gabapentin in the treatment of low back pain ***:This prospective observational study was conducted over 6 months to assess the efficacy of gabapentin in patients suffering from low back *** medical history,pain severity by Visual Analogue scale(VAS)and sleep quality by Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PQSI)were *** scores and PQSI scores before and after gabapentin treatment were compared,and gabapentin satisfaction post treatment were ***:This study included 100 low back pain patients with 65 males and 35 females,and the mean age was(39.0±10.5)*** commonest presentation was non-radiating low back pain(40%).The mean VAS score and the mean PQSI score in the study before treatment were 7.70±1.91 and 10.95±5.02,*** treatment with gabapentin,the mean VAS score and the mean PQSI score decreased to 2.75±1.79 and 4.90±2.20,respectively,and the differences before and after the treatment were significantly different(both P=0.001).Overall,62%of the patients were extremely satisfied with gabapentin because they reported no adverse drug ***,31%of the patients were satisfied and 7%were strongly dissatisfied with the ***:Gabapentin can improve sleep quality and reduce lower back pain as measured by the VAS and *** efficacy of this drug is relatively good,but further improvement is required.

Optimization of Threshold Ranges for Rapid Flood Inundation Mapping by Evaluating Backscatter Profiles of High Incidence Angle SAR Images

Rapid satellite-based flood inundation mapping and delivery of flood inundation maps during a flood event can provide crucial information for planners and decision makers to prioritize relief and rescue operations. The present study is undertaken to optimize the threshold ranges for the classification of flood water in Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) images(of 20° to 49° incidence angles) for quick flood inundation mapping and response during flood disasters. This is done through assessing the signature of flood water in Horizontal transmit and Horizontal received(HH), Horizontal transmit and Vertical received(HV), Vertical transmit and Horizontal received(VH), and Vertical transmit and Vertical received(vv) polarization radar data. The mean backscattering signature profiles of various water bodies were analyzed to discriminate flood water from other water bodies. The study shows that there is better demarcation of land-water surface in HH polarization. vv polarization has the potential to identify partially submerged features, which can be useful in flood damage assessments. The backscatter of flood water in HV and VH is the same and both HV and VH polarizations are adequate for the mapping of flood water. At near range to far range,-8 to-12 d B,-15 to-24 d B, and-6 to-15 d B can be used as optimum ranges for the classification of flood water in HH, HV, and vv polarizations. These optimum threshold ranges can be applied to the automation of flood mapping using SAR images in near-real time, where much time was often spent on finding the thresholds in order to produce flood inundation maps in a short time from the onset of flood disasters and deliver such maps to the concerned agencies.

Improvement in the dissolution rate and tableting properties of cefuroxime axetil by melt-granulated dispersion and surface adsorption

A combination of melt-granulated dispersion and surface adsorption techniques was used to enhance the dissolution and tableting properties of cefuroxime axetil(CA).Gelucire 50/13 was used as the melt-dispersion carrier and Sylysia 350 was used to adsorb the melt *** studies showed an 8-fold increase in solubility at a ratio of 1:1.5 for CA:Gelucire 50/*** minimum quantity of Sylysia 350 required to achieve the desired flowability and compressibility was 0.5 parts of Sylysia 350 per unit of Gelucire 50/*** solubility studies showed negative ΔG_(tr)^(0) values for Gelucire 50/13 at various concentrations(2-10%,vv/v),indicating the spontaneous nature of ***-IR and DSC spectra exhibited drug-excipient *** modeling by a computational method employing energy minimization revealed entrapment of CA in Gelucire 50/*** total potential energy of CA(70.562 keal/mol)was reduced to 33.578 keal/mol after solid dispersion with Gelucire 50/13.P-XRD studies indicated that the presence of Sylysia 350 is less likely to promote the reversion of the amorphous CA to a crystalline *** vitro dissolution studies demonstrated an improved dissolution rate,and drug release at 15 min(Q_(15min))exhibited a 15-fold *** rapidly dissolving CA tablets showed improved dissolution with improved tableting properties.
