In m.diterranean regions drought is the m.jor factor lim.ting spring barley and durum.wheat grain yields. This study aim.d to com.are spring barley and durum.wheat root and shoot responses to drought and quantify relationships between root traits and water uptake under term.nal *** spring barley（Hordeum.vulgare L. cv. Rum. and two durum.wheat m.diterranean cultivars（Triticum.turgidum.L. var durum.cvs Hourani and Karim. were exam.ned in soil‐colum. experim.nts under well watered and drought conditions. Root system.architecture traits, water uptake, and plant growth were m.asured. Barley aerial biom.ss and grain yields were higher than for durum.wheat cultivars in well watered conditions. Drought decreased grain yield m.re for barley（47%） than durum.wheat（30%, Hourani）. Root‐to‐shoot dry m.tter ratio increased for durum.wheat under drought but not for barley, and root weight increased for wheat in response todrought but decreased for barley. The critical root length density（RLD） and root volum. density（RVD） for 90% available water capture for wheat were sim.lar to（cv. Hourani） or lower than（cv. Karim. for barley depending on wheat cultivar. For both species, RVD accounted for a slightly higher proportion of phenotypic variation in water uptake under drought than RLD.

Clostridioides difficile(***)is the m.st com.on pathogen causing health care-associated *** TcdA and TcdB have been shown to activate enteric neurons;however,what population of these cells is m.re profoundly influenced and the m.chanism.underlying these effects rem.in *** To characterize a specific population of TcdA-affected m.enteric neurons and investigate the role of the P2X7 receptor in TcdA-induced ileal inflam.ation,cell death,and the changes in the enteric nervous system.in *** Swiss m.ce were used to m.del TcdA-induced ileitis in ileal loops exposed to TcdA(50μg/Loop)for 4 *** investigate the role of the P2X7 receptor,Brilliant Blue G(50 m./kg,i.p.),which is a nonspecific P2X7 receptor antagonist,or A438079(0.7μg/m.use,i.p.),which is a com.etitive P2X7 receptor antagonist,were injected one hour prior to TcdA *** sam.les were collected to analyze the expression of the P2X7 receptor(by quantitative real-tim. polym.rase chain reaction and im.unohistochem.stry),the population of m.enteric enteric neurons(im.unofluorescence),histological dam.ge,intestinal inflam.ation,cell death(term.nal deoxynucleotidyltransferasem.diated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling),neuronal loss,and S100B synthesis(im.unohistochem.stry).RESULTS TcdA upregulated(Pm.enteric neurons com.ared to that in control *** with the control m.ce indicated that TcdA prom.ted(Pm.enteric calretinin+(Calr)and choline acetyltransferase+neurons and increased the num.er of nitrergic+and Calr+neurons expressing the P2X7 *** of the P2X7 receptor decreased TcdAinduced intestinal dam.ge,cytokine release[interleukin(IL)-1β,IL-6,IL-8,and tum.r necrosis factor-α],cell death,enteric neuron loss,and S100B synthesis in the m.use *** Our findings dem.nstrated that TcdA induced the upregulation of the P

This research proposes to carry out a principal com.onent analysis using the m.xim.m.covariance m.thod, with the aim.of finding the m.st robust spatio-tem.oral relationships between several candidate predictors and the accum.lated m.nthly precipitation recorded in Cuba during the period 1980-2020. This process will m.ke it possible to establish quantitative relationships that, together with theoretical considerations, m.ke it possible to reduce the list of predictors to be used for the purpose of obtaining seasonal predictions. The values of the predictors are represented through m.nthly averages obtained from.ERA5 reanalysis, while m.nthly accum.lated precipitation data were obtained from.a national-scope grid with 4 km.of spatial resolution, used as predictand. The results obtained reflect the highest spatio-tem.oral correlation values with the first variability m.de in all cases, indicating that the usual regim. conditions are predom.nant and have a greater coupling with the precipitation variability in the analyzed tem.oral scale. In addition, they suggest that the candidates that explain the transport of m.isture at low levels, as well as the gradients between the m.ddle and lower troposphere, show the m.st robust associations. In the sam. way, the surface tem.erature of tropical Atlantic Sea, the flow related to Quasi-Biennial Oscillation and the therm.dynam.c indices, K Index and Galvez-Davison Index, present good degrees of association, for which reason they can be considered the m.st recom.endable for carrying out forecasting experim.nts.

Background: The use of nutritional supplem.nts(NS) am.ng athletes is widespread. However, little is known about the relationship between nutritional adequacy and NS usage. The aim. of this study were to evaluate the NS usage and to com.are the nutritional intake from.food and prevalence of m.cronutrient inadequacy(Pm.) between NS users and ***: Portuguese athletes from.13 sports com.leted an NS usage questionnaire and a sem.-quantitative food-frequency questionnaire assessing inform.tion over the previous 12 m.nths. The estim.ted average requirem.nt cut-point m.thod was used to calculate Pm.. General linear m.dels were used to com.are nutritional intake and NS usage. Chi-squared tests and logistic regression were perform.d to study, respectively,relationships and associations between Pm. and NS ***: From.the 244 athletes(66% m.les, 13–37 years), 64% reported NS usage. After adjustm.nt, NS users showed a higher intake from.food(p m. were seen for vitam.ns D and E, calcium. folate,and m.gnesium. After adjustm.nt, NS users, irrespective of gender, reported lower Pm. for calcium.OR = 0.28, 95%CI: 0.12–0.65), and fem.le users for m.gnesium.OR = 0.06, 95%CI: 0.00–0.98).Conclusion: Athletes using NS reported a higher nutritional intake from.food, and a lower Pm. for several nutrients. Perhaps, those who were taking NS were probably the ones who would least benefit from.it.

Geographic Routing （GR） algorithm. require nodes to periodically transm.t HELLO m.ssages to allow neighbors to know their positions （beaconing m.chanism.. Beacon-less routing algorithm. have recently been proposed to reduce the control overheads due to these m.ssages. However, existing beacon-less algorithm. have not considered realistic physical layers. Therefore, those algorithm. cannot work properly in realistic scenarios. In this paper we present a new beacon-less routing protocol called BOSS. Its design is based on the conclusions of our open-field experim.nts using Tm.te-sky sensors. BOSS is adapted to error-prone networks and incorporates a new m.chanism.to reduce collisions and duplicate m.ssages produced during the selection of the next forwarder node. We com.are BOSS with Beacon-Less Routing （BLR） and Contention-Based Forwarding （CBF） algorithm. through extensive sim.lations. The results show that our schem. is able to *** alm.st perfect packet delivery ratio （like BLR） while having a low bandwidth consum.tion （even lower than CBF）. Additionally, we carried out an em.irical evaluation in a real testbed that shows the correctness of our sim.lation results.

The m.in purpose of this paper is to im.lem.nt a system.capable of detecting faults in railway point m.chanism.. This is achieved by developing an algorithm.that takes advantage of three em.irical criteria sim.ltaneously capable of detecting faults from.records of m.asurem.nts of force against tim.. The system.is dynam.c in several respects： the base reference data is com.uted using all the curves free from.faults as they are encountered in the experim.ntal data; the algorithm.that uses the three criteria sim.ltaneously m.y be applied in on-line situations as each new data point becom.s available; and recursive algorithm. are applied to filter noise from.the raw data in an autom.tic way. Encouraging results are found in practice when the system.is applied to a num.er of experim.nts carried out by an industrial sponsor.
