Elucidating how m.ltiple factors affect biodiversity and plant com.unity assem.ly is a central issue in ecology,especially in vulnerable ecosystem. such as tropical *** studies are m.re relevant in global warm.ng scenarios that induce the upward displacem.nt of plant species towards reduced habitats and hostile environm.nts in tropical *** study aim.d to analyze how altitude affects taxonom.c and phylogenetic diversity in plant com.unities of tropical ***,we tested if(i)increased altitude works as an environm.ntal filtering prom.ting decreased species richness,decreased phylogenetic diversity,and increased phylogenetic clustering in these tropical m.untains;and if(ii)plant com.unities of high altitude in tropical m.untains are also result of recent diversification with plant species recently split shortening phylogenetic distances between closest related *** tested effects of altitude on species richness and phylogenetic m.trics using linear m.xed-effects *** Haleakala presented 114 species,m.unt Kilim.njaro presented 231 species and m.unt Purace presented 280 *** found an environm.ntal filtering effect with increasing altitude causing phylogenetic clustering,decreased phylogenetic diversity and decreased species *** decreasing phylogenetic distances between closest relatives are congruent with neo-endem.cs,suggesting recent plant diversification in high altitudes of tropical m.untains,possibly driven by geographic isolation and environm.ntal *** of global warm.ng should be m.nitored in tropical m.untains focusing on distribution shifts.

Patterns of variation in the size of vulture foraging groups,and their ecological causes and consequences,rem.in litle explored despite strong links with the carrion recycling service that this key functional group *** docum.nted the group size-frequency pattern of Andean con-dors Vultur gryphus gathered to feed on 42 equine carcasses experim.ntally placed in Bolivia,between 2012 and 2019,along an elevation range of 1,300-4,500 m.*** on the location(altitude and latitude)of the foraging groups,we exam.ned the relationship between their size and species'population param.ters(size and trend),habitat conditions,and livestock carcass availability and *** utilized a high frequency(93%)of carcasses form.ng groups that ranged from.1 to 80 individuals(m.an=25,m.dian=18)and shaped a"lazy-J curve"typical pattern of size-frequency distribution whereby few groups(5,12%)were large(>55 individuals)and m.st(21,50%)were relatively sm.ll(m.st larger groups form.d at lower sites(below c.3,000 m.asl),likely following an altitudinal gradient whereby larger groups are m.re likely to form.around larger carcasses(i.e.,cattle),which are m.re likely to occur at lower *** of population size,group size could be an adaptive response of condors via local enhancem.nt for im.roving individual scavenging *** inform.tion gaps on this topic still exist,thus we provide a set of questions to address them.especially am.dst the unrestricted im.acts of hum.n activities that condition vulture survival globally.

Technical efficiency of cocoa farm. at varying elevation levels in Davao City, Philippines: im.lications to sustainable upland farm.ng system.

Elevation is one of m.ny com.onents that influence agriculture, and this in turn affects the level of both inputs and outputs of farm.rs. This article focuses on the productivity and technical efficiency of 100 cocoa farm. using cross-sectional data from.areas ranging from.190 to 1021 m.above sea level which were classified as low, m.dium. and high elevation in Davao City, considered as the chocolate capital of the Philippines. Using stochastic frontier analysis, the results showed that the cost of inputs per ha and the num.er of cocoa trees per ha significantly increase yield. Farm. at high elevations were less technically efficient, as this entails lower tem.eratures and increased rainfall, and cocoa farm.ng in those areas and conditions can be m.re challenging, especially with changes in farm.ng practices, terrain, and distance to m.rkets. Other significant variables were age of cocoa farm., m.rried farm.rs, and age of the farm.rs. Older farm. m.y be m.re developed, farm.rs who are m.rried benefit from.their spouses being able to readily contribute as farm.labor, and lastly, older farm.rs' inefficiency m.y likely stem.from.nonadaptation of newer farm.ng practices. With an average technical efficiency of 0.61, 0.63, and 0.26 in low, m.dium. and high elevation areas, respectively, farm.rs therefore have an incentive to im.rove farm.practices and consider topographical variations found in high elevation areas. Recom.endations for the im.rovem.nt of technical efficiency of cocoa farm. are better connectivity to m.rkets, enhancing farm.practices, and continuation and im.rovem.nt of governm.nt program. on cocoa with an added em.hasis on research. For farm.rs in high elevation areas, m.tigating solutions such as sustainable agriculture practices and ecolabelling are key to im.roving efficiency and m.nim.zing the potential negative im.act on upland farm.ng system.. m.reover, such adaptation m.asures m.y also contribute to sustainability of cocoa farm.ng in high elevation

A Hybrid m.del Evaluation Based on PCA Regression Schem.s Applied to Seasonal Precipitation Forecast

Possible changes in the structure and seasonal variability of the subtropical ridge m.y lead to changes in the rainfall’s variability m.des over Caribbean region. This generates additional difficulties around water resource planning, therefore, obtaining seasonal prediction m.dels that allow these variations to be characterized in detail, it’s a concern, specially for island states. This research proposes the construction of statistical-dynam.c m.dels based on PCA regression m.thods. It is used as predictand the m.nthly precipitation accum.lated, while the predictors (6) are extracted from.the ECm.F-SEAS5 ensem.le m.an forecasts with a lag of one m.nth with respect to the target m.nth. In the construction of the m.dels, two sequential training schem.s are evaluated, obtaining that only the shorter preserves the seasonal characteristics of the predictand. The evaluation m.trics used, where cell-point and dichotom.us m.thodologies are com.ined, suggest that the predictors related to sea surface tem.eratures do not adequately represent the seasonal variability of the predictand, however, others such as the tem.erature at 850 hPa and the Outgoing Longwave Radiation are represented with a good approxim.tion regardless of the m.del chosen. In this sense, the m.dels built with the nearest neighbor m.thodology were the m.st efficient. Using the individual m.dels with the best results, an ensem.le is built that allows im.roving the individual skill of the m.dels selected as m.m.ers by correcting the underestim.tion of precipitation in the dynam.c m.del during the wet season, although problem. of overestim.tion persist for thresholds lower than 50 m..

Correcting distortions of thin-walled m.chined parts by m.chine ham.er peening

Thin-walled aerostructural com.onents frequently get distorted after the m.chining *** to correct distortions or eventually rejecting parts significantly increases the *** paper proposes a new approach to correct distortions in thin-walled com.onents by strategically applying ham.er peening on target surfaces of a m.chined *** alloy 7475-T7351 was chosen for this *** study was divided in two ***,the residual stresses(RS)induced by four different pneum.tic ham.er peening conditions(m.difying the stepover distance and initial offset)were characterised in a test coupon,and one of the conditions was selected for the next *** the second stage,a FEm.m.del was used to predict distortions caused by m.chining in a representative ***,the RS induced by ham.er peening were included in an FEm.m.del to define two ham.er peening strategies(varying the coverage area)to analyse the capability to reduce *** workpieces were m.chined and then treated with the sim.lated ham.er peening strategies for experim.ntal *** in the test coupon showed that pneum.tic ham.er peening can generate high com.ressive RS(-50 to350 m.a)up to 800 lm.depth,with their m.gnitude increasing with a reduced stepover *** of ham.er peening over 4% of the surface of the representative workpiece reduced the m.chininginduced distortions by 37%,and a coverage area of 100% led to and overcorrection by a factor of *** confirm. that ham.er peening can be strategically applied(in target areas and changing the percentage of coverage)to correct low or severe distortions.

Dysregulation of G9a,a histone-lysine N-m.thyltransferase,has been observed in Alzheim.r’s disease and has been correlated with increased levels of chronic inflam.ation and oxidative ***,m.croRNAs are involved in m.ny biological processes and diseases playing a key role in pathogenesis,especially in m.ltifactorial diseases such as Alzheim.r’s ***,our aim.has been to provide partial insights into the interconnection between G9a,m.croRNAs,oxidative stress,and *** better understand the biology of G9a,we com.ared the global m.croRNA expression between senescence-accelerated m.use-prone 8(SAm.8)control m.ce and SAm.8 treated with G9a inhibitor *** found a downregulation of m.R-128 after a G9a inhibition treatm.nt,which interestingly binds to the 3′untranslated region(3′-UTR)of peroxisom.-proliferator activator receptor γ(PPARG)***,Pparg gene expression levels were higher in the SAm.8 group treated with G9a inhibitor than in the SAm.8 control *** also observed m.dulation of oxidative stress responses m.ght be m.inly driven Pparg after G9a *** confirm.these antioxidant effects,we treated prim.ry neuron cell cultures with hydrogen peroxide as an oxidative *** this setting,treatm.nt with G9a inhibitor increases both cell survival and antioxidant ***,up-regulation of PPARγby G9a inhibitor could also increase the expression of genes involved in DNA dam.ge responses and *** addition,we also described that the PPARγ/Am.K axis partially explains the regulation of autophagy m.rkers ***,PPARγ/GADD45αpotentially contributes to enhancing synaptic plasticity and neurogenesis after G9a ***,we propose that pharm.cological inhibition of G9a leads to a neuroprotective effect that could be due,at least in part,by the m.dulation of PPARγ-dependent pathways by m.R-128.
