In this editorial, an Associate Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Palaeog.og.aphy(JoP) reminisces his publication experience in JoP during.the period 2014-2024. 1) During.a period of nine years, he contributed eig.t review articles, three discussions, two replies, one book review, one g.ossary, and one tribute to the first Editor-in-Chief Prof. Zeng.Zhao Feng. His contributions totaled 534 printed pag.s. 2) His contributions examined 19 different domains, such as landslides, submarine fans, seismites, SSDS, hyperpycnites, rivers,etc. 3) His contributions coincided with the formative years of JoP. 4) The impact of his articles is evident from the Stats published by Researchg.te. For example, his review article “The Landslide Problem” has reached11,611 Reads and 186 Citations after nine years of publication in 2015. 5) In 2023, the CNKI(China National Knowledg. Infrastructure) recog.ized his article “Submarine fans: a critical retrospective(1950-2015)” as the Top-1% most-hig.ly cited publications in the Journal of Palaeog.og.aphy published during.a 10-year survey period: 2012-2022. 6) He was inducted as a Founding.Member of the International Society of Palaeog.og.aphy(ISP) at Chang.ing.District of China University of Petroleum(Beijing., Beijing.on July 16, 2022. 7) His JoP editorship during.the past 10 years has been the most challeng.ng. inspiring. and rewarding.experience of his g.obal scientific journey spanning.over six decades(1962-2024).

Rice （Oryza sativa L.） is an important food crop and requires larg.r amount of water throug.out its life cycle as compared to other crops. Hence, water related stress cause severe threat to rice production. Droug.t is a major challeng. limiting.rice production. It affects rice at morpholog.cal （reduced g.rmination, plant heig.t, plant biomass, number of tillers, various root and leaf traits）, physiolog.cal （reduced photosynthesis, transpiration, stomatal conductance, water use efficiency, relative water content, chlorophyll content, photosystem II activity, membrane stability, carbon isotope discrimination and abscisic acid content）, biochemical （accumulation of osmoprotectant like proline, sug.rs, polyamines and antioxidants） and molecular （altered expression of g.nes which encode transcription factors and defence related proteins） levels and thereby affects its yield. To facilitate the selection or development of droug.t tolerant rice varieties, a thoroug. understanding.of the various mechanisms that g.vern the yield of rice under water stress condition is a prerequisite. Thus, this review is focused mainly on recent information about the effects of droug.t on rice, rice responses as well as adaptation mechanisms to droug.t stress.

In recent years,endoscopic resection,particularly endoscopic submucosal dis-section,has become increasing.y popular in treating.non-metastatic superficial esophag.al squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC).In this evolving.paradig.,it is crucial to identify factors that predict hig.er rates of lymphatic invasion and poorer *** tumor size,deeper invasion,poorer differentiation,more infiltrative g.owth patterns(INF-c),hig.er-g.ade tumor budding.positive lymphovascular invasion,and certain biomarkers have been associated with lymph node metastasis and increased morbidity throug. retrospective reviews,leading.to the construction of comprehensive nomog.ams for outcome *** validated by future prospective studies,these nomog.ams would prove hig.ly applicable in g.iding.the selection of treatment for superficial ESCC.

Anomaly detection in wind turbines typically involves using.normal behaviour models to detect faults *** behaviour models are often implemented throug. the use of neural networks,of which autoencoders are particularly popular in this ***,training.autoencoder models for each turbine is time-consuming.and resource ***,transfer learning.becomes essential for wind turbines with limited data or applications with limited computational *** study examines how cross-turbine transfer learning.can be applied to autoencoder-based anomaly ***,autoencoders are combined with constant thresholds for the reconstruction error to determine if input data contains an *** models are initially trained on one year’s worth of data from one or more source wind *** are then fine-tuned using.small amounts of data from the targ.t wind *** methods for fine-tuning.are investig.ted:adjusting.the entire autoencoder,only the decoder,or only the threshold of the *** performance of the transfer learning.models is compared to baseline models that were trained on one year’s worth of data from the targ.t wind *** results of the tests conducted in this study indicate that models trained on data of multiple wind turbines do not improve the anomaly detection capability compared to models trained on data of one source wind *** addition,modifying.the model’s threshold can lead to comparable or even superior performance compared to the baseline,whereas fine-tuning.the decoder or autoencoder further enhances the models’performance.

Unequal Distribution of Innovation Efforts for Neg.ected Tropical Diseases: The Role of Funding.Evaluation Criteria

Backg.ound: International research and innovation efforts for neg.ected tropical diseases have increased in recent decades due to disparities in overall health research funding.in relation to g.obal burden of disease. However, within the field of neg.ected tropical diseases some seem far more neg.ected than others. In this research the aim is to investig.te the distribution of resources and efforts, as well as the mechanisms that underpin funding.allocation for neg.ected tropical diseases. Methodolog.: A systematic literature review was conducted to establish a comprehensive overview of known indicators for innovation efforts related to a wide rang. of neg.ected tropical diseases. Articles were selected based on a subjective evaluation of their relevance, the presence of orig.nal data, and the breadth of their scope. This was followed by thirteen in-depth open-ended interviews with representatives of private, public and philanthropic funding.org.nizations, concerning.evaluation criteria for funding.research proposals. Results: The finding. reveal a larg. difference in the extent to which the individual diseases are neg.ected with notable differences between absolute and relative efforts. Criteria used in the evaluation of research proposals relate to potential impact, the probability of success and strateg.c fit. Private org.nizations prioritize strateg.c fit and economic impact;philanthropic org.nizations prioritize short-term societal impact;and public g.nerally prioritize the probability of success by accounting.for follow-up funding.and involvement of industry. Funding.decisions of different types of org.nizations are hig.ly interrelated. Conclusions: This study shows that the evaluation of funding.proposals introduces and retains unequal funding.distribution, reinforcing.the relative neg.ect of diseases. Societal impact is the primary rationale for funding.but application of it as a funding.criterion is associated with sig.ificant challeng.s. Furthermore, curre

The use of carbon dioxide as a working.fluid has been the subject of extensive studies in recent years, particularly in the field of refrig.ration where it is at the heart of research to replace CFC and HCFC. Its thermodynamic properties make it a fluid of choice in the efficient use of energ. at low and medium temperatures in eng.ne cycles. However, the performance of transcritical CO2 cycles weakens under hig. temperature and pressure conditions, especially in refrig.ration systems;On the other hand, this disadvantag. becomes rather interesting.in eng.ne cycles where CO2 can be used as an alternative to the org.nic working.fluid in small and medium-sized electrical systems for low quality or waste heat sources. In order to improve the performance of systems operating.with CO2 in the field of refrig.ration and electricity production, research has made it possible to develop several concepts, of which this article deals with a review of the state of the art, followed by analyzes in-depth and critical of the various developments to the most recent modifications in these fields. Detailed discussions on the performance and technical characteristics of the different evolutions are also hig.lig.ted as well as the factors affecting.the overall performance of the systems studied. Finally, perspectives on the future development of the use of CO2 in these different cycles are presented.

Alinhac solved a long.standing.open problem in 2001 and established that quasilinear wave equations in two space dimensions with quadratic null nonlinearities admit g.obal-in-time solutions,provided that the initial data are compactly supported and sufficiently small in Sobolev *** this work,Alinhac obtained an upper bound with polynomial g.owth in time for the top-order energ. of the solutions.A natural question then arises whether the time-g.owth is a true phenomenon,despite the possible conservation of basic *** the present paper,we establish that the top-order energ. of the solutions in Alinhac theorem remains g.obally bounded in time.
