Pulsed Electrochemical Deposited Nano-Iron for Water Treatment

The application of nanotechnology in drinking water treatment and pollution cleanup is promising, as demonstrated by a number of field-based (pilot and full scale) and bench scale studies. In recent years, the use of zero-valent iron (ZVI) for the treatment of toxic contaminants in groundwater and wastewater has received wide attention and encouraging treatment efficiencies have been documented. In this review, nanoscale iron was prepared by pulse electrodeposition of nano iron by chemical reduction of iron chloride and iron sulfate. Our research focuses on iron nanoparticles preparation and its use for aqueous Cr(VI) reduction. The Cr(VI) reduction by the nFe0 prepared by electrochemical and blasting method at neutral pH were carried. The results show that blasting-nFe0 show lower reaction than the electrochemical-nFe0. It is because the blasting-nFe0 surface contains more Fe2O3 than the other one.

Power Versus Bandwidth Efficiency in Wireless Communications:from Economic Sustainability to Green Radio

We carry out a comprehensive analysis of a range of wireless network efficiency considerations. Firstly, we explore the properties and the implications of the power-versus bandwidth-efficiency criteria. Secondly, we perform a detailed top-down analysis of a typical commercial wireless network, which emphasizes the inherent differences between the aforementioned two efficiency metrics, while demonstrating that the appropriate choice of the network optimization criterion can have a profound effect on the overall network performance. Finally, we address the issue of resource management and its impact on the definition of the overall system efficiency. Our results suggest that no substantial area spectral efficiency gains beyond those exhibited by the 2G cellular technol- ogy may be economically achieved, and hence, no significant economic gains may be realized by simply increasing the bps/Hz bandwidth efficiency. In contrast, manifold utility and throughput gains as well as substantial Quality of Service enhancements may be attained by the appropriate combination of improved power efficiency, bandwidth expansion as well as the appropriate evolution of the networking paradigm.

Mobile Social Networking Aided Content Dissemination in Heterogeneous Networks

Since more and more mobile applications are based on the proliferation of social information, the study of Mobile Social Networks （MSNs） combines social sciences and wireless communications. Operating wireless networks more efficiently by exploiting social relationships between MSN users is an appealing but challenging option for network operators. An MSN-aided content dissemination technique is presented as a potential extension of conventional cellular wireless networks in order to satisfy growing data traffic. By allowing the MSN users to create a self-organized ad hoc network for spontaneously disseminating contents, the network operator may be able to reduce the operational costs and simultaneously achieve an improved network performance. In this paper, we first summarize the basic features of the MSN architecture, followed by a survey of the factors which may affect MSN-aided content dissemination. Using a case study, we demonstrate that one can save resources of the Base Station （BS） while substantially lowering content dissemination delay. Finally, other potential applications of MSN-aided content dissemination are introduced, and a range of lustre challenges are summarized.

Pulmonary embolization as primary manifestation of hepatocellular carcinoma with intracardiac penetration: A case report

Intracardiac manifestation of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a rare condition and an uncommon finding even at autopsy. Pulmonary tumor embolism as a presenting feature of HCC has been published only twice previously. In our case report, a 63-year-old man presented with high fever and six episodes of recurrent pneumonias during the last half year. Echocardiography was performed, a solid mass was found in the right atrium. Transesophageal echocardiography proved a tumor mass in the inferior vena cava (IVC) extending into the right atrium, abdominal ultrasound revealed tumor mass in the IVC and a solid tumor in the liver. Combined liver and heart surgery was attempted in order to remove the tumor mass from both the liver and the right atrium. Acute cor pulmonale occurred during tumor removal from the right atrium and the patient expired. In addition to local factors the possibility of embolization should arise in the background of recurrent pneumonia. Occult carcinoma must be included in possible causes of recurrent pulmonary embolism. Searching for primary malignancy should include HCC as frequent cause of hypercoagulability. In case of HCC, echocardiography is suggested because of the possibility of expansion in IVC or right atrium and tumor-embolization.

Strongyloides hyper-infection causing life-threatening gastrointestinal bleeding

A 55-year old male patient was diagnosed with strongy- loides hyper-infection with stool analysis and intestinal biopsy shortly after his chemotherapy for myeloma. He was commenced on albendazole anthelmintic therapy. After initiation of the treatment he suffered life- threatening gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding. Repeated endoscopies showed diffuse multi-focal intestinal bleeding. The patient required huge amounts of red blood cells and plasma transfusions and correction of haemostasis with recombinant activated factor Ⅶ. Abdominal aorto-angiography showed numerous micro- aneurysms (‘berry aneurysms’) in the superior and inferior mesenteric arteries’ territories. While the biopsy taken prior to the treatment with albendazole did not show evidence of vasculitis, the biopsy taken after initiation of therapy revealed leukoclastic aggregations around the vessels. These findings suggest that, in addition to direct destruction of the mucosa, vasculitis could be an important additive factor causing the massive GI bleeding during the anthelmintic treatment. This might result from substances released by the worms that have been killed with anthelmintic therapy. Current guidelines advise steroids to be tapered and stopped in case of systematic parasitic infections as they might reduce immunity and precipitate parasitic hyper-infection. In our opinion, steroid therapy might be of value in the management of strongyloides hyper- infection related vasculitis, in addition to the anthelmintic treatment. Indeed, steroid therapy of vasculitis with other means of supportive care resulted in cessation of the bleeding and recovery of the patient.
