Protozoan colonization on artificial substrates in relation to water quality in a tropical Indian harbour

A field study was conducted to evaluate the protozoan colonization patterns on artificial substrates in relation to organic pollution within a tropical harbour. The composition of protozoans and their succession rates on artificial substrates(polyurethane foam units) were compared between two field stations(A and B), and their presence were considered with regards to the prevailing water quality conditions at the study sites. Altogether 44 genera of flagellates and ciliates were documented. The common genera of flagellates encountered included Monas, Polytoma, and Chromalina. Among the ciliates, the predominant genera were Tetrahymena, vorticella, Lagynophyra, and Heloiphyra. These groups exhibited characteristic successional patterns in relation to ambient water quality. At Station A, located close to the sewage outfall, the water quality parameters included poor Secchi disc transparency(0.48m), dissolved oxygen of 1.93 mg/ml, salinity of 18 psu, and temperature 31.3 ℃. Here, the nanoflagellates( spumella ) colonized first, followed by microcilliate( Tetrahymena ) and sessile form( vorticella ). Station B, located on the seaward side, was characterized by relatively less stressed environmental conditions with transparency 1.85m and dissolved oxygen value of 6 04 mg/ml. Salinity of 27.27 psu, and mean temperature of 30 ℃ were recorded at “B'. At this station, the nanoflagellate Polytoma was first documented to colonize on the substrates, followed by microcilliate( Lagynophrya ) and suctorid( Heliophyra ). These findings support the use of protozoans as indicator species for evaluating the hazards posed by organic pollution to natural estuarine communities.

An ordered set W of vertices of a graph G is called a resolving set, if all the vertices of G are uniquely determined by the vector of distances to the vertices in W. The metric dimension of G is the minimum cardinality of a resolving set of G. A resolving set W for G is fault-tolerant if W\{v} is also a resolving set, for each v in W, and the fault-tolerant metric dimension of G is the minimum cardinality of such a set. In this paper we determine the metric dimension and fault-tolerant metric dimension problems for the graphs of certain crystal structures.

The gut microbiome is a complex microbial community,recognized for its potential role in physiology,health,and *** available evidence supports the role of gut dysbiosis in pancreatic disorders,including acute pancreatitis(AP).In AP,the presence of gut barrier damage resulting in increased mucosal permeability may lead to translocation of intestinal bacteria,necrosis of pancreatic and peripancreatic tissue,and infection,often accompanied by multiple organ dysfunction *** gut microbial homeostasis may reduce the systemic effects of AP.A growing body of evidence suggests the possible involvement of the gut microbiome in various pancreatic diseases,including *** review discusses the possible role of the gut microbiome in *** highlights AP treatment and supplementation with prebiotics,synbiotics,and probiotics to maintain gastrointestinal microbial balance and effectively reduce hospitalization,morbidity and mortality in an early *** also addresses novel therapeutic areas in the gut microbiome,personalized treatment,and provides a roadmap of human microbial contributions to AP that have potential clinical benefit.

role of CYP2E1 gene polymorphisms association with hepatitis risk in Northeast India

AIM:To investigate hepatitis virus, genetic and environmental factors, and their interactions in predisposing patients to liver diseases in Northeast India. METHODS:A total of 104 jaundice patients and 124 community controls were included. Serological analysis was performed by routine enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and nucleic acid testing for hepatitis viruses was done by polymerase chain reaction (PCr), followed by PCr direct sequencing for viral genotyping. Cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) polymorphism was studied by PCr-restriction fragment length polymorphism. Nitrite and volatile nitrosamines in indigenous foods consumed routinely by the Northeast Indian ethnic population were estimated by Griess’s reagent and GC-MS, ***: Hepatitis A virus (HAv) infection was predominantly prevalent (36.5%) in our cohort, followed by hepatitis B virus (HBv), hepatitis E virus (HEv) andhepatitis C virus. HBv genotype D and HEv genotype 1 were the most dominant. CYP2E1 c1/c2 genotype frequency was comparatively higher in alcoholic (Pr =30.5) and cryptogenic (P=0.014, Or=8.714) patients, and was associated with significantly higher hepatitis risk (P=0.0.007,Or=6.489). Mutant C allele of Cyp2E1 DraⅠ frequency was comparatively higher in HAv (P=0.006), alcoholic (P =0.003) and cryptogenic (P=0.014) cases, and was associated with overall hepatitis risk (P=0.026, Or=5.083). Indigenous foods, Gundruk, Kharoli, betel leaf and nuts were found to have the highest nitrite content. CONCLUSION: Apart from viral factors, CYP2E1 polymorphism might be associated with increased risk of liver diseases in Northeast India. Indigenous foods that contain nitrite and nitrosamine might be an associated risk factor.

Enterolactone modulates the ErK/NF-κB/Snail signaling pathway in triple-negative breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231 to revert the TGF-β-induced epithelial–mesenchymal transition

Objective:Triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC)is highly metastatic,and there is an urgent unmet need to develop novel therapeutic strategies leading to the new drug discoveries against *** transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β)is known to promote the invasive and migratory potential of breast cancer cells through induction of epithelial–mesenchymal transition(EMT)via the ErK/NF-κB/Snail signaling pathway,leading to breast cancer *** this pathway to revert the EMT would be an attractive,novel therapeutic strategy to halt breast cancer ***:Effects of enterolactone(EL)on the cell cycle and apoptosis were investigated using flow cytometry and a cleaved caspase-3 enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA),*** of TGF-βinduction and EL treatment on the functional malignancy of MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells were investigated using migration and chemo-invasion *** effects of EL on EMT markers and the ErK/NF-κB/Snail signaling pathway after TGF-βinduction were studied using confocal microscopy,quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(q rT-PCr),Western blot,and flow ***:Herein,we report that EL exhibits a significant antimetastatic effect on MDA-MB-231 cells by almost reverting the TGF-β-induced EMT in *** downregulates the mesenchymal markers N-cadherin and vimentin,and upregulates the epithelial markers E-cadherin and *** represses actin stress fiber formation via inhibition of mitogen-activated protein kinase p-38(MAPK-p38)and cluster of differentiation 44(CD44).EL also suppresses ErK-1/2,NF-κB,and Snail at the m rNA and protein ***:Briefly,EL was found to inhibit TGF-β-induced EMT by blocking the ErK/NF-κB/Snail signaling pathway,which is a promising target for breast cancer metastasis therapy.

Novel multistage solid-liquid circulating fluidized bed： Hydrodynamic characteristics

The present work proposes a novel radially cross-flow multistage solid-liquid circulating fluidized bed （SLCFB）. The SLCFB primarily consists of a single multistage column （having an inner diameter of 100 mm and length of 1.40 m）, which is divided into two sections wherein both the steps of utilization or loading （e.g., adsorption and catalytic reaction） and regeneration of the solid phase can be carried out simulta- neously in continuous mode. The hydrodynamic characteristics were studied using ion exchange resin as the solid phase and water as the fluidizing medium. The loading and flooding states were determined for three particle sizes; i.e,. 0.30, 0,42, and 0.61 ram. The effects of the superficial liquid velocity and solid feed rate on the solid hold-up were investigated under loading and flooding conditions. The solid hold-up increases with an increase in the solid feed rate and decreases with an increase in the superficial liquid velocity. An artificial-intelligence formalism, namely the multilayer perceptron neural network （MLPNN）, was employed for the prediction of the solid hold-up. The input space of MLPNN-based model consists of four parameters, representing operating and system parameters of the proposed SLCFB. The developed MLPNN-based model has excellent prediction accuracy and generalization capability.
