Zika virus(ZIKv) is a flavivirus(Flaviviridae family) transmitted mainly by Aedes mosquitoes. The virus was restricted to the African continent until its spread to south-east Asia in the 1980's, the Micronesia in 2007, the French Polynesia in 2013 and, more recently in the Americas in 2015, where, up to date, the World Health Organization(WHO) has estimated about 3-4 million total cases of ZIKv infection. During outbreaks in the French Polynesia and Brazil in 2013 and 2015, respectively, national health authorities reported potential neurological complications of ZIKv disease, chiefly an upsurge in guillain-Barré syndrome, which coincided with ZIKv outbreaks. On the other hand, the emergence of ZIKv in Brazil has been associated with a striking increase in the number of reported cases of microcephaly in fetus and newborns, twenty times higher than in that reported in previous years. While investigations are currently assessing whether there is an actual association between neurological complications and ZIKv infections, the evidence was enough worrisome for WHO to declare a public health emergency of international concern. Here we present an updated review addressing what is currently known about the possible association between ZIKv infection and the development of severe neurological disorders.

Splenic rupture(SR)after colonoscopy is a very rare but potentially serious *** diagnosis is common,and may increase morbidity and mortality *** is no clear relation between SR and difficult diagnostic or therapeutic procedures,but it has been suggested that loop formation and excessive torquing might be risk *** is a case of a65-year-old woman who underwent endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD)for lateral spreading tumor in the descending colon,and 36 h afterwards presented symptoms and signs of severe hypotension due to *** splenectomy was completed and the patient recovered *** ESD is usually a long and position-demanding technique,implying torquing and loop *** our knowledge this is the first case of SR after colorectal ESD reported in the *** performing colorectal ESD in the left colon must be aware of this potential complication.

Based on the collected multiwavelength data, namely in the radio(NvSS, FIRST, RATAN-600), IR(WISE),optical(Pan-STARRS), Uv.g.LEX), and X-ray(ROSAT, Swift-XRT) ranges, we have performed a cluster analysis for the blazars of the Roma-BZCAT catalog. Using two machine learning methods, namely a combination of PCA with k-means clustering and Kohonen's self-organizing maps(SOMs), we have constructed an independent classification of the blazars(five classes) and compared the classes with the known Roma-BZCAT classification(FSRQs, bl Lacs, galaxy-dominated bl Lacs, and blazars of an uncertain type) as well as with the high synchrotron peaked(HSP) blazars from the 3HSP catalog and blazars from the TevCat catalog. The obtained groups demonstrate concordance with the bl Lac/FSRQ classification along with a continuous character of the change in the properties. The group of HSP blazars stands out against the overall distribution. We examine the characteristics of the five groups and demonstrate distinctions in their spectral energy distribution shapes. The effectiveness of the clustering technique for objective analysis of multiparametric arrays of experimental data is demonstrated.

AIM:To study the ability of human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells(AMSCs)to survive over the short and long term,their biodistribution and their biosafety in vivo in tumor-prone ***:We subcutaneously injected human AMSCs from different human donors into immunodeficient SCID mice over both short-(2 and 4 mo)and long-(17 mo)term in young,and aged tumor-prone *** of human cells was studied by immunohistochemistry and polymerase chain reaction analysis in all organs of injected ***:Subcutaneously injected AMSCs did not form teratomas at any time *** did not migrate but remained at the site of injection regardless of animal age,and did not fuse with host cells in any organ *** survived in vivo for at least 17 mo after injection,and differentiated into fibroblasts of the subdermic connective tissue and into mature adipocytes of fat tissue,exclusively at the site of ***:Our results support the assertion that AMSC may be safe candidates for therapy when injected subcutaneously because of their long term inability to form teratomas.

Using bioelectrochemical systems(BESs)to provide electrochemically generated hydrogen is a promising technology to provide electron donors for reductive dechlorination by organohalide-respiring *** this study,we inoculated two syntrophic dechlorinating cultures containing Dehalobacter and Dehalobacterium to sequentially transform chloroform(CF)to acetate in a BES using a graphite fiber brush as the *** this co-culture,Dehalobacter transformed CF to stoichiometric amounts of dichloromethane(DCM)via organohalide respiration,whereas the Dehalobacterium-containing culture converted DCM to acetate via *** were initially inoculated with Dehalobacter,and sequential cathodic potentials of-0.6,-0.7,and -0.8 v were poised after consuming three CF doses(500 μM)per each potential during a time-span of 83 *** the end of this period,the accumulated DCM was degraded in the following seven days after the inoculation of *** this point,four consecutive amendments of CF at increasing concentrations of 200,400,600,and 800 μM were sequentially transformed by the combined degradation activity of Dehalobacter and *** Dehalobacter 16S rRNA gene copies increased four orders of magnitude during the whole *** coulombic efficiencies associated with the degradation of CF reached values>60% at a cathodic potential of -0.8 v when the degradation rate of CF achieved the highest *** study shows the advantages of combining syntrophic bacteria to fully detoxify chlorinated compounds in BESs and further expands the use of this technology for treating water bodies impacted with pollutants.

The nutritive value of 25 edible Orthoptera in Mexico is shown. Protein content ranges from 43.93% to 77.13% (mix of Edible Acrididade of Puebla). Fat percentage goes from 4.22% to 34.21%. Richest species in ashes were Arphia fallax S., Sphenarium histrio g. and Sphenarium purpurascens Ch. with 16.5%. Energy contribution varies from 14.05 kJ to 21.88 kJ. Their amino acids profile was compared with the WHO/FAO/UNU Pattern (1985). The total quantity of es-sential amino acids that all insects species provides was superior to those signaled in the pattern. The highest quantity (53.60 g) was for Sphenarium histrio g. Chemical score goes from 50% to 88%. In vitamins, the highest value in Thiamine and Riboflavine was for Sphenarium magnum M., in Niacine for Sphenarium borrei B., in vitamin C and for vitamin D Acheta domestica L., and in vitamin A for Periplaneta americana L. In minerals, all species were very rich in magnesium. All the edible orthopterans results were compared with those of the most conventional mexican foods used to obtain proteins. The quantity and quality of the nutrients that these edible orthopterans allows, provides a significant contribution to the nutrition of the peasants who eat them.

Neuroendocrine tumors of the small bowel are on the rise. In the US they have increased by 300%-500% in the last 35 years. At the same time their prognosis is much improved. Today,most neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) of the duodenum are detected "incidentally" and therefore recognized at an early stage. Duodenal NETs which are well differentiated,not larger than 10 mm and limited to the mucosa/submucosa can be endoscopically resected. The management of duodenal NETs ranging between 10 and 20 mm needs an interdisciplinary discussion. Endoscopic ultrasound is the method of choice to determine tumor size and depth of infiltration. Surgery is recommended for well-differentiated duodenal NET tumors greater than 20 mm,for localized sporadic gastrinomas (of any size) and for localized poorly differentiated NE cancers. Surgery is recommended for any ileal NET. Advanced ileal NETs with a carcinoid syndrome are treated with longacting somatostatin analogs. This treatment significantly improves (progression-free) survival in patients with metastatic NETs of the ileum. For optimal NET management,tumor biology,type,localization and stage of the neoplasm,as well as the patient's individual circumstances have to be taken into account.

Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) of the stomach, duo- denum, appendix or rectum that are small (≤ 1 cm) and well differentiated can be considered "early" tumors, since they generally have a (very) good prognosis. In the new WHO classification of 2010, these neoplasms are called neuroendocrine tumors/ carcinoids (NETs), grade (g) 1 or 2, and distinguished from poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinomas (NECs), g3. NETs are increasing, with a rise in the age-adjusted incidence in the U.S.A. by about 700 % in the last 35 years. Improved early detection seems to be the main reason for these epidemiological changes. Both the better generalavailability of endoscopy, and imaging techniques, have led to a shift in the discovery of smaller-sized (≤ 10-20 mm) intestinal NETs/carcinoids and earlier tumor stages at diagnosis. Endoscopic screening is therefore effective in the early diagnosis, not only of colorectal adenocarcinomas, but also of NETs/carcinoids. Endoscopic removal, followed up with endoscopic surveillance is the treatment of choice in NETs/carcinoids of the stomach, duodenum and rectum that are ≤ 10 mm in size, have a low proliferative activity (g1), do not infiltrate the muscular layer and show no angioinvasion. In all the other intestinal NENs, optimal treatment generally needs surgery and/or medical therapy depending on type, biology and stage of the tumor, as well as the individual situation of the patient.

AIM: To investigate the antiproliferative effect of the histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor MS-275 on cholangiocarcinoma cells alone and in combination with conventional cytostatic drugs (gemcitabine or doxorubicin) or the novel anticancer agents sorafenib or bortezomib. METHODS: Two human bile duct adenocarcinoma cell lines (EgI-1 and TFK-1) were studied. Crystal violet staining was used for detection of cell number changes. Cytotoxicity was determined by measuring the release of the cytoplasmic enzyme lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). Apoptosis was determined by measuring the enzyme activity of caspase-3. Cell cycle status reflected by the DNA content was detected by flow ***: MS-275 treatment potently inhibited the proliferation of EgI-1 and TFK-1 cholangiocarcinoma cells by inducing apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. MS-275-induced apoptosis was characterized by activation of caspase-3, up-regulation of Bax and down-regulation of Bcl-2. Cell cycle was predominantly arrested at the g1/S checkpoint, which was associated with induction of the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p21Waf/CIP1. Furthermore, additive anti-neoplastic effects were observed when MS-275 treatment was combined with gemcitabine or doxorubicin, while combination with the multi-kinase inhibitor sorafenib or the proteasome inhibitor bortezomib resulted in overadditive anti-neoplastic ***: The growth of human cholangiocarcinoma cells can be potently inhibited by MS-275 alone or in combination with conventional cytostatic drugs or new, targeted anticancer agents.
