HBeAg negative serological status and low viral replication levels characterize chronic hepatitis B virus-infected women at reproductive age in Greece: A one-year prospective single center study

AIM： To evaluate the seroprevalence of hepatitis B surface antigen （HBsAg） in 13 581 women at reproductive age and the hepatitis B e antigen （HBeAg）/anti-HBe status as well as serum hepatitis B virus （HBv）-DNA levels in a subgroup of HBsAg（＋） pregnant women at labor in Greece. METHODS： Serological markers were detected using enzyme immunoassays. Serum HBv-DNA was determined by a sensitive quantitative PCR assay. Statistical analysis of data was based on parametric methodology. RESULTS： Overall, 1.156% of women were HBsAg（＋） and the majority of them （71.3%） were Albanian. The prevalence of HBsAg was 5.1% in Albanian women, 4.2% in Asian women and 1.14% in women from Eastern European countries. The prevalence of HBsAg in African （0.36%） and Greek women （0.29%） was very low. Only 4.45% of HBsAg （＋） women were also HBeAg（＋） whereas the vast majority of them were HBeAg（-）/anti-HBe（＋）. Undetectable levels of viremia （〈200 copies/mL） were observed in 32.26% of pregnant women at labor and 29.03% exhibited extremely low levels of viral replication （〈400 copies/mL）. Only two pregnant women exhibited extremely high serum HBv- DNA levels （〉10 000 000 copies/mL）, whereas 32.26% exhibited HBv-DNA levels between 1 500 and 40 000 copies/mL. CONCLUSION： The overall prevalence of HBsAg is relatively low among women at reproductive age in Greece but is higher enough among specific populations. The HBeAg（-）/anti-HBe（＋） serological status and the extremely low or even undetectable viral replicative status in the majority/of HBsAg（＋） women of our study population, suggestthat only a small proportion of HBsAg（＋） women in Greece exhibit a high risk for vertical transmission of the infection.

Fluorescent Proteins(FP)can be applied as biomarkers and biosensors in the industrial and medical fields,but their large-scale use,especially for new industrial applications,is limited due to their low ***,the discovery of additives capable of preserving the activity of FP at room temperature and under stress conditions can help to expand and facilitate their commercial *** this goal,we evaluated the application of 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride-based([C_(n)mim]Cl)ionic liquids(ILs)as additives to preserve the activity of Enhanced Green Fluorescent Protein(EGFP)at different storage times and under unfavorable ***[C_(n)mim]Cl solutions(at 0.100 mol L^(-1))were able to preserve EGFP fluorescence for longer than the phosphatesaline buffer(PBS)and NaCl solutions,increasing its fluorescence manifestation from 1 to 3 months.[C_(n)mim]Cl with shorter to medium cationic alkyl chains were the most effective in preserving EGFP fluorescence.[C_(n)mim]Cl also protected EGFP activity in the presence of the surfactant SDS,the acid guanidine hydrochloride,and H_(2)O_(2).Therefore,[C_(n)mim]Cl can be added to aqueous solutions to preserve EGFP fluorescence activity at room temperature for longer storage times and to reduce the negative impact of denaturing agents on ***,there is a massive potential for the application of ILs as additives to preserve FP in the long-term without refrigeration and under unfavorable conditions,and this is fundamental to enable expansion of FP in industrial and commercial applications.

The cerebral blood flow（CBF） alterations related to sound-induced opening of the blood–brain barrier（BBB） in adult mice are studied using laser speckle contrast imaging（LSCI） and wavelet analysis of vascular *** results clearly show that the opening of the BBB is accompanied by the changes of venous but not microvessel circulation in the brain. The elevation of the BBB permeability is associated with the decrease of venous CBF and the increase of its complexity. These data suggest that the cerebral veins rather than microvessels are sensitive components of the CBF related to the opening BBB.

AIM:Dasyatis jenkinsii is used traditionally to treat inflammatory complaints and arthritis by the fisherman community and local *** present study was designed to scientifically investigate the traditional practice through the analgesic,anti-inflammatory,and organ toxicity studies and characterization of bioactive compounds of crude extracts of ***: Solvent extract of homogenized fresh fish was prepared using petroleum ether and diethyl *** chemical and spectral analyses of extracts were carried out using FT-IR and *** and anti-inflammatory activities were assessed by hot plate,tail clip,and carrageenan induced rat paw edema *** organ toxicity of each extract was assessed on brain,liver,and kidney of ***:The IR spectrum indicated the presence of aromatic and aliphatic ***-MS analysis revealed the presence of 1-(4-carboxy)phenylnona-2,5-diene and 3-hydroxymono-glyceryl hydrogen phthalate in the petroleum ether extract and carboxyl serine,dihydrotryptophan,and indolyl carboxylic acid in the diethyl ether *** extracts showed significant analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects in all the methods *** vital organs of the test animals were not affected by the crude extracts ***:The presence of biologically active compounds in the crude extracts with analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties justifies the traditional knowledge and paves the way for isolation of these compounds for further experimentation.

In the present research, a series of 5,6-bis aryl 1,2,4-triazines 5a^5f were synthesized by condensation of various benzils 4a^4f with aminoguanidine bicarbonate and were screened in vivo, for their anticonvulsant and neurotoxicity studies. Compounds 5a, 5b and 5d were found to be potent molecules of this series, when compared with the reference drugs phenytoin sodium, diazepam and lamotrigine. The structures of these compounds were established by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and mass spectroscopic data.

Spatial Distribution of Sound Channel and Its Parameters in North Indian Ocean

The Present work reports the variability of the derived sound channel and its parameters （surface sound velocity, conjugate depth, SLD （Sonic Layer depth） and SOFAR（Sound Fixing and Ranging） depth） has been presented over the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea. We use World Ocean Atlas Annual data （2013） on temperature; salinity of North Indian Ocean （0°-25°N; 50°-95°E） and its bathymetry have been utilized for the present computation. The depth of the sound channel axis increases towards the northern latitudes in the Arabian Sea, while it decreases in the Bay of Bengal. Coming to the conjugate depth, it shows variation from 120-400 m in the Bay of Bengal and 50-320 m in the Arabian Sea. The range of SLD is varying between 20-40 m in the Bay of Bengal and 10-30 m in the Arabian Sea. The Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea have depth limited nature of the profile, i.e. surface sound speed exceeds the near bottom values. This has an important implication in the sound propagation in the SOFAR channel. Anticipated acoustic rays in an ocean with depth limited profile will propagate as surface refracted, bottom reflected （RBR） rays. As a result, the effective sound channel lies much below the sea surface.

Experimental-Biological Model of Bartonellosis

Bartonella are known to be important causes ofzooanthroponotic diseases. The range of human infection varies from mild lymphadenopathy and asymptomatic bacteremia to life-threatening systemic disease in immunocompromised patients. Microbiological improvements in isolation methods and PCR amplification of organism-specific DNA sequences have resulted in a dramatic increase in reports describing human patients with bartonellosis. Nevertheless, clearly and successful isolation ofBartonella spp. from bacteremic animals and human patients remains an ongoing challenge. Technology of experimental bartonellosis due to intraperitoneal introduction of biological material samples containing causative agents to laboratory animals is presented in the article. White nonlinear mice with the artificially cyclophosphamide formed immunodeficient state may be used as an experimental model for further investigation of the biological alterations responsible for angiomatosis. On the other hand, we believe that this new method will enhance the diagnostic sensitivity and specificity needed to achieve a diagnosis of bartonellosis.

Tuning the chemiluminescence of a luminol flow using plasmonic nanoparticles
