TiO_(2)-ZnO nanocomposites were synthesized by varying Ti:Zn molar ratio from 1:0.1(TZ-1:0.1)to 1:1(TZ-1:1).With increase in Zn content,from TZ-1:0.1 to TZ-1:0.2,anatase transformed to rutile ***-1:0.3,which contained a blend of phases,including rutile and anatase TiO_(2),ZnO,and zinc titanates,exhibited the narrowest bandgap(2.5±0.1 e v),and showed the highest photocatalytic ***-1:1 was predominated by zinc *** the nanocomposites exhibited narrower bandgaps compared to pure TiO_(2)nanoparticles,facilitating visible light *** study was designed to explore whether a method targeting the removal of a specific crystalline phase(anatase)influenced the properties and photocatalytic activity of the *** dissolution not only removed anatase phase,but also led to significant loss of crystallinity,widened the bandgap,and adversely affected photocatalytic performance,in nanocomposites that contained>80%anatase phase(TZ-1:0.1 and TZ-1:0.2).However,in nanocomposites that contained less of anatase phase(TZ-1:0.3and TZ-1:1),the morphology,bandgap,crystallinity,and the extent of photocatalytic activity at the end of 240 min remained largely *** activity in TZ-1:0.3 and TZ-1:1 originated from a blend of phases comprising of less photocatalytically active phases,such as rutile TiO_(2),Zn TiO3,and Zn2TiO4,rather than from the anatase *** Ti:Zn molar ratio controlled the phases present in TiO_(2)-ZnO nanocomposites,which,in turn,controlled the physicochemical properties and visible light ***,in nanocomposites that contained a mix of several phases,the properties and photocatalytic activity were not dependent on anatase phase.

Emissive probes are the tools for the direct deter- mination of the plasma potential ~PL and they deliver a more reliable measure of φPL compared to the indi- rect measurements with cold Langmuir probes. The emissive probe works on the principle of compensating the well-known asymmetry of the I-v characteristic of a single cold Langmuir probe by an electron emission current from the probe into the plasma. In an ideal case, the saturated value of floating potential v（А,em） of a highly emissive probe should equal the plasma potential. A conventional emissive probe usu- ally consists of a loop of tungsten wire heated by an electric current passing through it. These conven- tional emissive probes containing an electric current- heated metal wire loop suffer a huge drawback when it comes to their lifetime. The metal wire used in these probes evaporates and subsequently breaks when heated with high current, leading to frequent replacements of these wires. When used in ultra high vacuum （UHv） plasma systems, frequent replacement of these wires requires frequent vacuum breaks in the plasma systems. In many plasma systems espe- cially in magnetized toroidal hot plasmas like toka- maks, where determination of the electric fields leads to a great deal of useful information, frequent breaking of the vacuum is impossible for changing the filament of the emissive probes. Hence, along with the other drawbacks of the conventional emissive probes such as limited emission current, bending in a magnetic field makes their use impractical in these plasma systems. The most suitable alternative is the emissive probes heated by a focused infra-red laser. Due to them having several advantages over the conventional emis- sive probes, laser heated emissive probes （LHEPs） are found to have more and more uses in plasma systems. The environmental influx of hazardous contaminants viz PAHs and HMs occurs due to oil and gas drilling,and processing of petroleum products in industrial facilities and *** problem plagues crude oil drilling sites as PAHs are an essential component of and HMs coexist with crude *** analyzed the spatial distribution of 16 PAHs and 8 HMs in 10 contaminated sites of Assam,a state in *** included Digboi,where crude oil was drilled in 1867 and the first oil well in Asia that was ***Ʃ16 PAHs in soil were detected with a minimum of 13.48 and a maximum of 86.3 mgkg1 andƩ8 heavy metal concentrations in the soil ranged between 69.51 and 336.06 mgkg1.A negative correlation was detected between the relative concentrations of PAHs and *** results confirmed that the nonbiodegradable nature of HMs made them stay in the soil for longer periods of *** our study,we found that the levels of lead,copper,nickel,and chromium(total)in soil were 73.62,11.86,58.97 and 158.66 mgkg*** recovery percentage for PAHs and HMs were in the range of 67e97%and 90e95%*** distribution indices for Phenanthrene/Anthracene,Naphthalene/Acenapthhylene,Chyrsene/Benzo(g,h,i)perylene and Fluranthene/Pyrene)calculated for soil samples indicated that the spatial distribution of PAHs in soil is uneven which might be due to variations in contaminates disseminated in *** regionalized concentration has serious implications on the bio-economy both in terms of health and economy,especially since the proximity of crude oil sites to paddy fields and/or tea plantations uniquely marks the landscape of upper Assam.

Pb–Pb baddeleyite ages of mafic dyke swarms from the Dharwar Craton:Implications for Paleoproterozoic LIPs and diamond potential of mantle keel

The Dharwar Craton in Peninsular India was intruded by a series of mafic dykes during the Paleoproterozoic and these mafic magmatic events have important implications on continental rifting and *** we report ten precise Pb-Pb TE-TIMS age determinations on baddeleyite grains separated from seven mafic dykes and three sills,intruding into Archean basement rocks and Proterozoic sedimentary formations of the Eastern Dharwar Craton *** crystallization age of the baddeleyite shows 2366.3±1.1 Ma,and 2369.2±0.8 Ma for the NE-SW trending dykes,2368.1±0.6 Ma,2366.4±0.8 Ma,2207.2±0.7 Ma and 1887.3±1.0 Ma for the ENE-WNW to E-W striking dykes,1880.6±1.0 Ma,1864.3±0.6 Ma and 1863.6±0.9 Ma for Cuddapah sills,and 1861.8±1.4 Ma for the N-S trending *** results in conjunction with those from previous studies identify eight distinct stages of widespread Paleoproterozoic magmatism in the Dharwar *** mantle plume centres of the four radiating dyke swarms with ages of^2367 Ma,~2210 Ma,~2082 Ma,and^1886 Ma were traced to establish their proximity to the EDC kimberlite *** the^2367 Ma and^1886 Ma plume centres are inferred to be located to the west and east of the present day Dharwar craton respectively away from the kimberlite province,location of plume heads of the other two swarms with ages of^2207 Ma and^2082 Ma are in close *** spite of the ubiquitous occurrence of dyke intrusions of all the seven generations in the kimberlite province,only few of these kimberlites are *** occurrences elsewhere in the vicinity of older Large Igneous Provinces(LIPs)like the Mackenzie,Karoo,Parana-Etendeka and Yakutsk-vilui are also *** has been attributed to the destruction of the lithospheric mantle keel(that hosts the diamonds)by the respective mantle *** diamondiferous nature of the EDC kimberlites therefore suggests that plume activity does not always result in the destruction of the mantle keel.

This study demonstrated using yttrium(Y)as an indicator to estimate the total rare earth element and Y contents(REY)in coal-associated samples and to facilitate selection of samples with high REY assays in a fast and inexpensive *** than 10 anthracite-associated samples were collected from each of three Pennsylvanian sites(sites B,J and C)based on Thorium gamma ray logging suggesting high REY *** samples from each site were analyzed by ICP-MS to determine the rare earth distribution patterns and to establish the site-specific linear equations of Y and *** Y contents of the remaining samples were measured by a portable X-ray fluorescence analyzer,and the REY values were estimated based on the site-specific linear equation developed earlier.R-squared values above 0.70 were obtained for all the estimation equations from all three sites on both a whole sample basis and an ash ***,ash content has been widely used as an indicator of high REY *** may not be applicable for a specific *** B in this study is an example where ash contents could not be statistically correlated with REY,so using Y for estimation is more *** demonstrated sample screening process is suitable for samples from sites that share more similar distribution patterns(either MREY or LREY or HREY)as well as for samples from sites that share multiple distribution patterns(LREY/MREY/HREY)depending on the desirable *** demonstrated process lowers the analytical cost from$70 to 80 dollars per sample to$10-15 per sample while significantly reducing the processing time and acid consumption for ICP *** is particularly true when a relatively large sample size is involved,for example,100 samples from one site analyzed by ICP-MS/OES.

Boerhavia diffusa （B. diffusa）, also known as Punarnava, is an indigenous plant in India and an important component in traditional Indian medicine. The accurate identification and collection of this medicinal herb is vital to enhance the drug＇s efficacy and biosafety. In this study, a DNA barcoding technique has been applied to identify and distinguish B. diffusa from its closely-related species. The phylogenetic analysis was carried out for the four species of Boerhavia using barcode candidates including nuclear ribosomal DNA regions ITS, ITS1, ITS2 and the chloroplast plastid gene psbA-trnH. Sequence alignment revealed 26% polymorphic sites in ITS, 30% in ITS1, 16% in ITS2 and 6% in psbA-trnH, respectively. Additionally, a phylogenetic tree was constructed for 15 species using ITS sequences which clearly distinguished B. diffusa from the other species. The ITS1 demonstrates a higher transition/transversion ratio, percentage of variation and pairwise distance which differentiate B. diffusa from other species of Boerhavia. Our study revealed that 1TS and ITS1 could be used as potential candidate regions for identifying B. diffusa and for authenticating its herbal products.

The dielectric and thermal analysis of copper doped Magnesium Hydrogen Maleate Hexahydrate single crystals are studied for the first time. The dielectric constant, loss tangent, a.c. conductivity and a.c. activation energy were measured with variation of frequency in the range 50 Hz to 1 MHz. Dielectric studies reveal that the present crystal under investigation show good optical quality. The melting point and final compound after decomposition were determined using the DTA/TG analysis.

Coal is one of the main sources of energy in many parts of the world and has one of the largest reserves/production ratios amongst all the non-renewable energy sources. Gasification of coal is one among the advanced technologies that has potential to be used in a carbon constrained economy. However, gasification availability at several commercial demonstrations had run into problems associated with fouling of syngas coolers due to unpredictable flyash formation and unburnt carbon losses. Computer models of gasifiers are emerging as a powerful tool to predict gasifier performance and reliability, without expensive testing. Most computer models used to simulate gasifiers tend to model coal as a homogenous entity based on bulk properties. However, coal is a heterogeneous material and comminution during feedstock preparation produces particle classes with different physical and chemical properties. It is crucial to characterize the heterogeneity of the feedstocks used by entrained flow gasifiers. To this end, a low ash US bituminous coal that could be used as a gasifier feedstock was segregated into density and size fractions to represent the major mineral matter distributions in the coal. Float and sink method and sieving were employed to partition the ground coal. The organic and inorganic content of all density fractions was characterized for particle size distribution, heating value, ultimate analysis, proximate analysis, mineral matter composition, ash composition, and petrographic components, while size fractions were characterized for heating value, ash composition, ultimate and proximate analysis. The proximate, ultimate and high heating value analysis showed that variation in these values is limited across the range of size fractions, while the heterogeneity is significant over the range of density fractions.
