In catalysis processes, activated carbon （AC） and metal oxides （MOs） are widely used either as catalysts or as catalyst supports because of their unique properties. A combination of AC and MO nanoparticles in a single hybrid material usually entails both chemical and microstructural changes, which may largely influence the potential catalytic suitability and performance of the resulting product. Here, the prepa- ration of a wide series of AC-MO hybrid catalysts is studied. Three series of such catalysts are prepared by support first of MO （Al2O3, Fe2O3, SnO2, TiO2, WO3, and ZnO） precursors on a granular AC by wet impregnation and oven-drying at 120 ℃, and by subsequent heat treatment at 200 or 850℃ in inert atmosphere. Both the chemical composition and microstructure are mainly investigated by powder X-ray diffraction. Yield and ash content are often strongly dependent on the MO precursor and heat treatment temperature, in particular for the Sn catalysts. With the temperature rise, trends are towards the transformation of metal hydroxides into metal oxides, crystallinity improvement, and occurrence of drastic composition changes, ultimately leading to the formation of metals in elemental state and even metal carbides. Reaction paths during the preparation are explored for various hybrid catalysts and new insights into them are provided.

Hypocotyl formation during the epigeal germination of seedlings is under strict hormonal regulation. In a 3 d old Zinnia elegans seedling system, gibberellic acid （gA3） exerts an opposite effect to that exerted by light on hypocotyl photomorphogenesis because gAz promotes an etiolated-like growth with an inhibition of radial （secondary） growth. For this reason, the effect of gA3 on the basic peroxidase isoenzyme from Z. elegans （ZePrx）, an enzyme involved in hypocotyl lignin biosynthesis, was studied. The results showed that gA3 reduces ZePrx activity, similarly to the way in which it reduces seedling secondary growth. This hormonal response is supported by the analysis of the ZePrx promoter, which contains four types of gA3-responsive ***： the W Box/O2S; the Pyr Box; the gARE; and the Amy Box. Taken together, these results suggest that ZePrx is directly regulated by gA3, with this effect matching the inhibitory effect of gA on the hypocotyl secondary growth.

There are prototypes of social housing massively built in contrasting climatic conditions,generating thermal comfort needs that are difficult to satisfy by the users *** of indoor air volume in living spaces where the use of air conditioning and natural ventilation strategies provides elements to improve thermal comfort *** research shows the thermal performance located in a representative social housing according to Mexico’s National Housing *** temperature results from a benchmark case were compared to six virtual Evaluation Models,using the Dynamic Thermal Simulation tool Design Builder®from the perspective of *** main objective was to determine the minimum use of active systems with different indoor air volumes and improve comfort conditions to promote sustainable living in social *** analysis was conducted under an adaptive comfort range according to three different climate conditions in Mexico adopting a Numerical Theoretical *** main findings can be divided into two parts:a)the impact of the indoor air volume on thermal performance was evidenced in a proportion of time in three representative climates of the central region of Mexico,and b)no relationship was found between indoor air volume and thermal comfort in sub-humid cold climate;in sub-humid temperate climate,the same number of comfort hours was found in two different models,and in sub-humid warm climate,an inversely proportional relationship was found between indoor air volume and the comfort *** findings implies a greater knowledge relative to what we know about sub-humid cold,temperate and warm climates.

We performed a PubMed search for microRNAs in autism spectrum disorder that could serve as diagnostic biomarkers in patients and selected 17 articles published from January 2008 to December 2023,of which 4 studies were performed with whole blood,4 with blood plasma,5 with blood serum,1 with serum neural cell adhesion molecule L1-captured extracellular vesicles,1 with blood cells,and 2 with peripheral blood mononuclear *** of the studies involved children and the study cohorts were largely *** of the studies had performed microRNA sequencing or quantitative polymerase chain reaction assays to measure microRNA *** five studies had used real-time polymerase chain reaction assay to validate microRNA expression in autism spectrum disorder subjects compared to *** microRNAs that were validated in these studies may be considered as potential candidate biomarkers for autism spectrum disorder and include miR-500a-5p,-197-5p,-424-5p,-664a-3p,-365a-3p,-619-5p,-664a-3p,-3135a,-328-3p,and-500a-5p in blood plasma and miR-151a-3p,-181b-5p,-320a,-328,-433,-489,-572,-663a,-101-3p,-106b-5p,-19b-3p,-195-5p,and-130a-3p in blood serum of children,and miR-15b-5p and-6126 in whole blood of *** important limitations were identified in the studies reviewed,and need to be taken into account in future *** studies are warranted with children and adults having different levels of autism spectrum disorder severity and consideration should be given to using animal models of autism spectrum disorder to investigate the effects of suppressing or overexpressing specific microRNAs as a novel therapy.

Abnormal expression of microRNAs is connected to brain development and disease and could provide novel biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis of bipolar disorder. We performed a PubMed search for microRNA biomarkers in bipolar disorder and found 18 original research articles on studies performed with human patients and published from January 2011 to June 2023. These studies included microRNA profiling in bloodand brain-based materials. From the studies that had validated the preliminary findings,potential candidate biomarkers for bipolar disorder in adults could be miR-140-3p,-30d-5p,-330-5p,-378a-5p,-21-3p,-330-3p,-345-5p in whole blood, miR-19b-3p,-1180-3p,-125a-5p, let-7e-5p in blood plasma, and miR-7-5p,-23b-5p,-142-3p,-221-5p,-370-3p in the blood serum. Two of the studies had investigated the changes in microRNA expression of patients with bipolar disorder receiving treatment. One showed a significant increase in plasma miR-134 compared to baseline after 4 weeks of treatment which included typical antipsychotics, atypical antipsychotics, and benzodiazepines. The other study had assessed the effects of prescribed medications which included neurotransmitter receptorsite binders(drug class B) and sedatives, hypnotics, anticonvulsants, and analgesics(drug class C) on microRNA results. The combined effects of the two drug classes increased the significance of the results for miR-219 and-29c with miR-30e-3p and-526b* acquiring significance. MicroRNAs were tested to see if they could serve as biomarkers of bipolar disorder at different clinical states of mania, depression, and euthymia. One study showed that upregulation in whole blood of miR-9-5p,-29a-3p,-106a-5p,-106b-5p,-107,-125a-3p,-125b-5p and of miR-107,-125a-3p occurred in manic and euthymic patients compared to controls, respectively, and that upregulation of miR-106a-5p,-107 was found for manic compared to euthymic patients. Insulin resistance is the major feature of the metabolic syndrome and depends on insulin secretion and insulin sensitivity. In chronic hepatitis C, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus are more often seen than in healthy controls or chronic hepatitis B patients. Hepatitis C virus （HCv） infection promotes insulin resistance, mainly by increased TNF production together with enhancement of suppressor of cytokine （SOC-3）; both events block PI3K and Akt phosphorylation. Two types of insulin resistance could be found in chronic hepatitis C patients＇. ＂viral＂ and ＂metabolic＂ insulin resistance. Insulin resistance in chronic hepatitis C is relevant because it promotes steatosis and fibrosis. The mechanisms by which insulin resistance promotes fibrosis progression include：（1） steatosis, （2） hyperleptinemia, （3） increased TNF production, （4） impaired expression of PPARy receptors. Lastly, insulin resistance has been found as a common denominator in patients difficult-to-treat like cirrhotics, overweight, HIv coinfected and Afro-American. Insulin resistance together with fibrosis and genotype has been found to be independently associated with impaired response rate to peginterferon plus ribavirin. Indeed, in genotype 1, the sustained response rate was twice （60%） in patients with HOMA ≤ 2 than patients with HOMA 〉 2. In experiments carried out on Huh-7 cells transfected by full length HCvRNA, interferon alpha blocks HCv replication. However, when insulin （at doses of 128 μU/mL, similar that seen in the hyperinsulinemic state） was added to interferon, the ability to block HCv replication disappeared, and the PKR synthesis was abolished. In summary, hepatitis C promotes insulin resistance and insulin resistance induces interferon resistance, steatosis and fibrosis progression.
