The microstructures of 304 stainless steel chips created by plane strain machining at ambient temperature hav. been analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the crystallite size of the ultrafine chips were analyzed using X-Ray Diffraction Analysis. The strain imposed in the chips was v.ried by changing the tool rake angle. An attempt is made in the present inv.stigation to correlate the plastic strain, strain rate with the grain size of the stainless steel.

Aluminium based composites containing 1, 1.5 and 2wt. % of nano-sized Titanium Carbide particulates (TiC), with an av.rage of 45nm, reinforcement were synthesized using low energy planetary ball mill followed by hot extrusion. Microstructural characterization of the materials rev.aled uniform distribution of reinforcement, grain refinement and the presence of minimal porosity. Properties characterization rev.aled that the presence of nano-TiC particulates led to an increase in hardness, elastic modulus, 0.2% yield strength (0.2% offset on a stress-strain curv.), and the stress at which a material exhibits a specified permanent deformation, Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS) and ductility of pure aluminum. Fractography studies rev.aled that the fracture of pure aluminum occurred in ductile mode due to the incorporation and uniform distribution of nano-TiC particulates. An attempt is made in the present study to correlate the effect of nano-sized TiC particulates as reinforcement and processing type with the micro structural and tensile properties of aluminum composites. The mechanical properties, namely, the UTS, hardness, grain size and distribution of the reinforcement in the base metal were studied in as sintered and extruded conditions. Orowan strengthening criteria was used to predict the yield strength of Al-TiC composites in the present work and experimental results were compared with the theoretical results.

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in v.rious analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers dev.loped within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 Tev.proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon ov.r jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines sev.ral jet substructure observ.bles using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are prov.ded for jets with transv.rse momentum between 500 Gev.and 2 Tev.and for multiple tagger working points.

NiTi shape memory alloys(SMAs) was dev.loped using the spark-plasma sintering(SPS) process with different av.rage particle size(45 μm and 10 μm) under v.rious temperature. The influence of particle size and temperature on the density, microstructure, and corrosion behav.or of the NiTi in simulated body fluid was examined. The porosity decreased with increasing sintering temperature and decreasing particle size, which resulted in an increase in density of the alloy. Increasing the sintering temperature led to the formation of Ni-and Ti-rich intermetallic such as Ni3Ti and NiTi2. The formation of these secondary phases influenced the corrosion behav.or of NiTi by changing its chemical composition. The planar structure of NiTi was transformed into a dendritic structure at 900℃, which resulted in the formation of uniform oxide and phosphate layers on the entire surface. A high corrosion potential and low corrosion current density were achiev.d with NiTi prepared with 10 μm particles at 900℃, which exhibited superior corrosion resistance.
