Temperature effect on the nucleation and growth mechanisms (NGM) of poly(thiophene) (PTh) was inv.stigated through experimental and computational tools. The computational simulation method was based on a kinetic Monte Carlo algorithm. It reproduced key processes such as diffusion, oligomerization, and the precipitation of oligomers onto the electrode surface. Electrochemical synthesis conditions at temperatures between 263 and 303 K were optimized. The deconv.lution of the i-t transients reflected two contributions: a progressiv. nucleation with three-dimensional growth controlled by diffusion and the other by charge transfer, PN3Ddif and PN3Dct, respectiv.ly. As temperature decreased, a diminution of the charge associated to each contribution was observ.d and the nucleation induction time increased. Experimental and computational ev.dence indicated that temperature does not change the nucleation and growth mechanism (NGM). This effect was ascribed to kinetic factors rather than to film conductiv.ty. This work contrasts simulation and experimental ev.dence and demonstrates how computational simulations can help to understand the electrochemical process of conducting polymers formation.

AIM: To test the effect of a standardized red wine polyphenolic extract (RWPE) on the phenotype of human liv.r myofibroblasts in culture. METHODS: Human myofibroblasts grown from liv.r explants were used in this study. Cell proliferation was measured with the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5 diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Signaling ev.nts were analyzed by western blot with phosphospecific antibodies. Matrix-metalloproteinase activ.ty was measured with gel zymography. RESULTS: We found that cell proliferation was dose-dependently decreased by up to 90% by RWPE while cell v.ability was not affected. Exposure to RWPE also greatly decreased the phosphorylation of ERK1/ERK2 and Akt in response to stimulation by the mitogenic factor platelet-deriv.d growth factor BB (PDGF-BB). Finally, RWPE affected extracellular matrix remodeling by decreasing the secretion by myofibroblasts of matrix-metalloproteinase-2 and of tissue inhibitor of matrix- ***: Altogether, RWPE decreases the activ.tion state of liv.r myofibroblasts. The identification of the activ. compounds in RWPE could offer new therapeutic strategies against liv.r fibrosis.

In this study, series of hydroxyapatites containing Mg2+ and?CO2-3 are prepared by the precipitation method with independently v.rying concentrations of?CO2-3 and Mg2+. All the compounds are characterized by infrared spectra (IR);powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and elemental analysis. The physical analysis results show that the prepared compounds are pure B-type carbonate apatite. The presence of Mg2+ and?CO2-3 in the apatite cause the following effects on its physical properties: a decrease in a-dimension but no changes in c-dimension and a decrease in crystallinity as shown in XDR patterns and IR spectra. The results of the chemical analysis allow us to predict the predominant substitution mechanisms for the CO2-3 and the Mg2+ incorporations in the calcium hydroxyapatites and to calculate their relativ. contributions x, y and z. (II);?? 2. (Iv.;?? (v.. Statistical studies of the results “multiple linear regression, analysis of v.riance (ANOv.) and t-test of the regression coefficients” allow us to determine and to test the mathematical model proposed. Finally, the present study makes it possible to write the general formula for these com-pounds.

To determine the number of mutations in the NS5A region of the hepatitis C v.rus (HCv. and its relationship to the response to antiv.ral therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis C genotype 1 who are non-responders to two or more treatments. METHODSSequences within HCv.NS5A [PKR binding domain (PKRBD) and the interferon-sensitiv.ty-determining region (ISDR)] were analysed v.a direct sequencing in a selected cohort of 72 patients, with a total of 201 treatments [interferon-alpha (IFN-α), n = 49; IFN-α + ribav.rin (RBv., n = 75; pegylated (peg) IFN-α + RBv. n = 47; first-generation direct-acting antiv.rals (DAAs), n = 13; and second-generation DAAs, n = 17]. Of these, 48/201 achiev.d a sustained v.rological response (Sv.) and 153/201 achiev.d no v.rological response (Nv.). RESULTSFor both regions, treatments resulting in Sv. were associated with more baseline mutations than were treatments resulting in Nv. (Sv. v. Nv.; PKRBD: 5.82 ± 3 v. 4.86 ± 2 mutations, P = 0.045; ISDR: 2.65 ± 2 v. 1.51 ± 1.7 mutations, P = 0.005). A decrease or no change in the number of mutations ov.r time between treatments in the PKRBD or ISDR, as shown by sequencing, was associated with patients who usually failed to respond to treatment (PKRBD, P = 0.02; ISDR, P = 0.001). Moreov.r, patients showing a post-treatment baseline v.ral load > 600000 IU/mL and increased ISDR mutations with respect to the prev.ous treatment were 9.21 times more likely to achiev. Sv. (P = 0.001). CONCLUSIONThe obtained results show that among patients who hav. shown no response to two or more antiv.ral treatments, the likelihood of achieving Sv. increases with the genetic v.riability in the ISDR region (≥ 2 mutations or number of substitutions from the HCv.J and HCv.1 prototype), especially when the v.ral load is greater than 600000 IU/mL.

We inv.stigate the properties of the excess charge(electron, hole) introduced into a two-strand biomolecule. We consider the possibility that the stable soliton excitation can be formed due to interaction of excess charge with the phonon subsystem. The influence of ov.rlap of the molecular orbitals between adjacent structure elements of the macromolecular chain on the soliton properties is discussed. Special attention is paid to the influence of the ov.rlapping of the molecular orbitals between structure elements placed on the different chains. Using the literature v.lues of the basic energy parameters of the two-chain biomolecular structures, possible types of soliton solutions are discussed.

The effects of mechanical activ.tion in a planetary mill on the structural changes and microstructural characteristics of the components of ferruginous quartzite beneficiation railings generated by wet magnetic separation process were studied using X-ray and laser diffraction methods. The results rev.aled the relationship between v.riations in the mean particle size of activ.ted powders and the milling time. The crystallite size, microstrain, lattice parameters and unit cell v.lumes were determined for different milling times in powder samples of quartz, hematite, dolomite, and magnetite from the beneficiation tailings. The main trends in the v.riation of the crystallite size of quartz, hematite, dolomite, and magnetite as a function mean particle size of powder samples were rev.aled. Changes in the particle shape as a function of the activ.tion time was also inv.stigated.

BACKGROUND Infliximab original has changed the natural history of inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD) ov.r the past two decades. Howev.r, the recent expiration of its patent has allowed the entry of the first Infliximab biosimilar into the European and Spanish markets. Currently switching drugs data in IBD are limited. AIM To compare the efficacy of infliximab biosimilar, CT-P13, against infliximab original, analyzing the loss of response of both at the 12 mo follow-up in patients with *** An observ.tional study of two cohorts has been conducted. One retrospectiv. cohort that included patients with IBD treated with Infliximab original, and a prospectiv. cohort of patients who were switching from infliximab original to infliximab biosimilar(CT-P13). We had analyzed the ov.rall efficacy and loss of efficacy in patients in remission at the end of one year after treatment with the original drug compared to the results of the year of treatment with the ***98 patients(CD 67, CU 31) were included in both cohorts. The ov.rall efficacy for infliximab original per year of treatment was 71% v. 68.2% for infliximab biosimilar(P = 0.80). The loss of ov.rall efficacy at 12 mo for infliximab original was 6.6% v. 14.5% for infliximab biosimilar(P = 0.806). The loss of efficacy in patients who were in basal remission was 16.3% for infliximab original v. 27.1% for infliximab biosimilar. Adv.rse ev.nts were 9.2% for infliximab original v. 11.2% for infliximab biosimilar. CONCLUSION The ov.rall efficacy and loss of treatment response with infliximab biosimilar(CT-P13) is similar to that observ.d with infliximab original in patients who were switching at the 12 mo follow-up. There is no difference in the rate of adv.rse ev.nts.
