Joint experiments(JEs)on small tokamaks have been regularly performed between 2005 and 2015 under the framework of the International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA)coordinated research projects(CRPs).This paper describes the background and the rationale for these experiments,how they were organized and executed,main areas of research covered during these experiments,main results,contributions to mainstream fusion research,and discusses lessons learned and outcomes from these *** underline several of the most important scientific outputs and also specific outputs in the education of young scientists and scientists from developing countries and their importance.

The time-and spectral-resolved set-up for measurements of weak infrared luminescence of photosensitizers(PSs)and singlet oxygen using optical lightguides was used on skin of laboratory animals in *** rats with abdominal incisions treated by methylis aminolevulinitis(MAL)were used as a model.A control group of animals with abdominal incisions was also *** resolved fluorescence of the PS was acquired during the treatment from the same *** intensity and spectral profile of the fiuorescence signal from the skin can be used to guide the detection setup to the investigated spots in the *** rate of bleaching of Protoporphyrin IX band and appearance of a band of its photoproducts during the treatment can be characterized by the exposition ED,under which the latter becomes dominant feature infiuorescence *** value differs statistically significantly between the normal skin and the lesion treated by *** direct proportionality was found between the fluorescence signal and singlet oxygen ***,the strong fluorescence signal is necessary but not a su±cient condition for higher singlet oxygen production in *** value correlates rather well with production of singlet oxygen,but differently in lesion and normal *** of singlet oxygen differ between spots outside and in the *** triplet state lifetimes exhibit weak di®erence between spots treated and untreated by MAL.

Aqueous colloidal dispersions containing Znx Cd1‐x S quantum dots (QDs) of different x compositions were prepared by precipitating zinc and cadmium acetates with sodium sulphide,in the presence of a cetyltrimethylammonium bromide ***‐visible absorption spectroscopy was used to determine the transition energies of the QDs,which in turn were used to calculate their sizes,which depended on their *** QD size decreased with increasing Zn *** photocatalytic activity of the Znx Cd1‐x S QDs was studied by the decomposition of methylene blue under ultraviolet irradiation,at a maximum intensity at 365 nm (3.4 e v).Three different photo‐catalytic activity regions were observed,which depended on the Zn *** quantum levels of the QDs could be excited by incident irradiation,and influenced the resulting photocatalytic *** photocatalytic activity was achieved at x = 0.6,where the QD transition energy was equal to the irradiation photon *** photocatalytic efficiency of the QDs depended on their surface area and arrangement of quantum levels,because of the quantum size effect.

AIM: To determine whether local antibiotic resistance involves P-glycoprotein (Pgp)-mediated active drug outpumping during Helicobacter pylori ( H pylori) infection treatment with classic antibiotic therapy. METHODS: Pgp activity was determined in gastric mucosa biopsy specimens obtained from 53 patients with pathohistologically verified gastritis and microbiologically confirmed H pylori infection, and compared with the Pgp activity in 12 control subjects with normal endoscopic findings. TheH pylori positive patients were treated with short-term 7-d therapy consisting of two antibiotics (amoxicillin and azithromycin/metronidazole and clarithromycin) and a proton pump inhibitor. Pgp activity was determined by flow cytometry in the test of rhodamine dye efflux and quantified as mean fluorescence ratio (RMF).RESULTS: Upon the first cycle,H pylori was successfully eradicated in 20 patients, whereas therapy was continued in 33 patients. In the course of antibiotic therapy, RMF increased (P＜0.05) and gastric cells showed higher rhodamine dye efflux. The mean pre-treatment RMF values were also higher (P＜0.0001) in patients with multiple therapeutic failure than in those with successful H pylorieradication and control ***: Pgp might be one of the causes of therapy failure in patients with H pylori and antibiotic therapy could be chosen and followed up on the basis of the Pgp transporter local activity.

Concrete Based on Fly Ash Alumosilicate Polymers

Persistent neural activity refers to the phenomenon where an ensemble of neurons sustains elevated discharge of action potentials. Persistent activity outlasts sensory stimuli, and thus provides a neural basis ‘to account for the delay, between stimulation and response that seems so characteristic of thought’（Hebb）. Since its discovery in the 1970 s in the frontal cortex of behaving monkeys, persistent activity has been recorded in various brain areas and species. However, it is unclear how persistent activity is sustained in the cortex. Do local reverberatory circuits sustain persistent activity or are other brain regions also involved? Using extracellular and whole cell recordings, optogenetic perturbation and quantitative behavior we analyze this question in mice performing an object location discrimination task with a delay. We recorded neurons from a premotor cortex（ALM）, an area long known to exhibit persistent activity during motor planning, and thalamus（including the ventral medial and ventral anterior-lateral nuclei） that’s connected bi-directionally with ALM. Both ALM and thalamic neurons exhibited selective persistent delay activity that predicts future response. Unilateral photoinhibition of delay activity in ALM or thalamus biased movement direction. Photoinhibition of thalamus caused a short-latency and near total collapse of ALM activity. Similarly, photoinhibition of ALM diminished thalamic activity. Our results reveal thalamus as a circuit hub in motor preparation and suggest that persistent activity requires reciprocal excitation across multiple brain areas.

Concretes on the basis of the alumosilicate polymer can be prepared by alkali activation （NaOH, sodium water glass） of waste brown coal fly ash. The preparation is possible：（1） by using a short-term heating of the concrete mix （to 80 ℃）; or （2） by allowing the mix to harden spontaneously at a temperature of 20 ℃. The concretes prepared by short-time heating attain high strength values after their preparation; the values are comparable to those characterizing concretes obtained on the basis of Portland cement. The strength development of concretes hardening at 20 ℃ is substantially less steep but, nevertheless, the strength attained after about 60 days is practically identical with that of the concretes exposed to a short-time heating. The shrinkage of concretes prepared by short-time heating is very small as compared with the concretes allowed to harden spontaneously; the shrinkage of latter concretes is larger than that of the concretes on the basis of Portland cement. The concretes on the basis of alumosilicate polymer exhibit much better resistance to the corrosive action of the environment as compared with those prepared on the basis of Portland cement.

AIM: To investigate whether selected single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in miR-196a2, miR-27a and miR146a genes are associated with sporadic colorectal cancer (CRC).METHODS: In order to investigate the effect of these SNPs in CRC, we performed a case-control study of 197 cases of sporadic CRC and 212 cancer-free controls originating from the Central-European Caucasian population using TaqMan Real-Time polymerase chain reaction and allelic discrimination analysis. RESULTS: The genotype and allele frequencies of SNPs were compared between the cases and the controls. None of the performed analysis showed any statistically significant results. CONCLUSION: Our data suggest a lack of association between rs11614913, rs895819 and rs2910164 and colorectal cancer risk in the Central-European Caucasian population, a population with an extremely high incidence of sporadic colorectal cancer.
