Kinetic analysis via mathematical modeling for ferrous iron oxidation in a class of SBR-type system

This paper analyses the oxidation of ferrous iron via chemical and biological means in a class of Sequential Batch Reactors(SBR-type).For this,a kinetic model for the study of iron oxidation system is proposed,followed by a parametric sensitivity analysis and a bifurcation analysis,which allow selecting the most influential kinetic parameters in order to ensure a suitable prediction capacity of the mathematical structure.The system consists of two SBR bioreactors,the first being used to produce hydrogen peroxide(H2O2)that is fed to a second reactor where the iron oxidation is carried out by chemical–biological processes.Model predictions were compared with experimental data for the production of H2O2 and for ferrous iron oxidation,finding suitable correlation coefficients(r2 N 0.98)for each state variable.The bifurcation analysis showed the trajectories of the main variables,such as,biomass,H2O2 and ferrous iron,under the change of the most influential kinetic parameters.This analysis demonstrates the usefulness of the constructed model to predict the kinetic behaviour of the SBR-type process.

This paper presents a method to find Noether-type conserved quantities and Lie point symmetries for discrete mechanico-electrical dynamical systems,which leave invuriant the set of solutions of the corresponding difference scheme. This approach makes it possible to devise techniques for solving the Lagrange Maxwell equations in differences which correspond to mechanico-electrical systems,by adapting existing differential equations.In particular,it obtains a new systematic method to determine both the one-parameter Lie groups and the discrete Noether conserved quantities of Lie point symmetries for mechanico-electrical systems.As an application,it obtains the Lie point symmetries and the conserved quantities for the difference equation of a model that represents a capacitor microphone.

Multiple efforts have been performed worldwide around diverse aspects of land administra-tion.However,land administration data and systems’notorious heterogeneity remains a longstanding challenge to develop a harmonized vision.In this sense,the traditional Spatial Data Infrastructures adoption is not enough to overcome this challenge since data sources’heterogeneity implies needs related to harmonization interoperability,sharing,and integration in land administration development.This paper proposes a graph-based represen-tation of knowledge for integrating multiple and heterogeneous data sources(tables,shape-files,geodatabases,and WFS services)belonging to two Colombian agencies within a decentralized land administration scenario.These knowledge graphs are developed on an ontology-based knowledge representation using national and international standards for land administration.Our approach aims to prevent data isolation,enable cross-datasets integration,accomplish machine-processable data,and facilitate the reuse and exploitation of multi-jurisdictional datasets in a single approach.A real case study demonstrates the applicability of the land administration data cycle deployed.

The zinc-containing enzyme HDAC-like amidohydrolase (FB188 HDAH), identified in the Bordetella alcaligenes bacteria, is similar to enzymes that participate in epigenetic mechanisms such as histone modifications. The X-ray crystal structure of FB188 HDAH complexed with the antagonist SAHA (suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid) has been solved (PDB ID: 1ZZ1). Notably, the complex crystallizes as a tetramer in the asymmetric unit cell of the crystal. The crystal yielded a suitable structure to analyze the dynamics of the inhibitory mechanism of SAHA on this histone deacetylase. Applying computational chemistry techniques and quantum mechanics theory, several physicochemical properties were calculated to compare the active site of the enzyme of the four monomers. Significant differences were observed in the areas and volumes of the binding pocket, as well as hydrophobic interactions, dipole moments, atomic charges and electrostatic potential, among other properties. Remarkably, a free-energy curve resulting from the evaluation of the energies of SAHA and the interacting amino acids of the four crystal monomers unveiled the biophysical mechanism of the FB188 HDAH inhibition exerted by SAHA to a greater extent. The biophysical mechanism of SAHA inhibition on FB188 deacetylase was clearly observed as a dynamic process. It is possible to define the physicochemical dynamics of the molecular complex by the application of computational chemistry techniques and quantum mechanics theory by studying the crystal structures of the interacting molecules.

Direct-fed microbes: A tool for improving the utilization of low quality roughages in ruminants

For many years, ruminant nutritionists and microbiologists have been interested in manipulating the microbial ecosystem of the rumen to improve production efficiency of different ruminant species. Removal and restriction of antibiotics subtherapeutic uses from ruminant diets has amplified interest in improving nutrient utilization and animal performance and search for more safe alternatives. Some bacterial and fungal microorganisms as a direct-fed microbial（DFM） can be the most suitable solutions. Microorganisms that are commonly used in DFM for ruminants may be classified mainly as lactic acid producing bacteria（LAB）, lactic acid utilizing bacteria（LUB）, or other microorganism＇s species like Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, Enterococcus, Streptococcus, Bacillus, Propionibacterium, Megasphaera elsdenii and Prevotellabryantii, in addition to some fungal species of yeast such as Saccharomyces and Aspergillus. A definitive mode of action for bacterial or fungal DFM has not been established; although a variety of mechanisms have been suggested. Bacterial DFM potentially moderate rumen conditions, and improve weight gain and feed efficiency. Fungal DFM may reduce harmful oxygen from the rumen, prevent excess lactate production, increase feed digestibility, and alter rumen fermentation patterns. DFM may also compete with and inhibit the growth of pathogens, immune system modulation, and modulate microbial balance in the gastrointestinal tract. Improved dry matter intake, milk yield, fat corrected milk yield and milk fat content were obtained with DFM administration. However, the response to DFM is not constant; depending on dosages, feeding times and frequencies, and strains of DFM. Nonetheless, recent studies have supported the positive effects of DFM on ruminant performance.

Background The complexity of the Chagas disease and its phases is impossible to have a unique test for both phases and a lot of different epidemiological scenarios.Currently,serology is the reference standard technique;occasionally,results are inconclusive,and a different diagnostic technique is needed.Some guidelines recommend molecular testing.A systematic review and meta-analysis of available molecular tools/techniques for the diagnosis of Chagas disease was performed to measure their heterogeneity and efficacy in detecting Trypanosoma cruzi infection in blood samples.Methods A systematic review was conducted up to July 27,2022,including studies published in international databases.Inclusion and exclusion criteria were defined to select eligible studies.Data were extracted and presented according to PRISMA 2020 guidelines.Study quality was assessed using Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies-2(QUADAS-2).A random-effects model was used to calculate pooled sensitivity,specificity,and diagnostic odds ratio(DOR).Forest plots and a summary of the receiving operating characteristics(SROC)curves displayed the outcomes.Heterogeneity was determined by I^(2)and Tau^(2)statistics and P values.Funnel plots and Deek's test were used to assess publication bias.A quantitative meta-analysis of the different outcomes in the two different clinical phases was performed.Results We identified 858 records and selected 32 papers.Studies pertained to endemic countries and nonendemic areas with adult and paediatric populations.The sample sizes ranged from 17 to 708 patients.There were no concerns regarding the risk of bias and applicability of all included studies.A positive and nonsignificant correlation coefficient(S=0.020;P=0.992)was obtained in the set of studies that evaluated diagnostic tests in the acute phase population(ACD).A positive and significant correlation coefficient(S=0.597;P<0.000)was obtained in the case of studies performed in the chronic phase population(CCD).This resulted in high heterogeneity between

The degree of adaptability and phytoremediation potential of the plant species, Zacate Garrapata, Zacate Banderita, Chivatillo, Oregano, Chamizo and Sotol were evaluated on different substrates (S) composed of tailing (JM) and agricultural land (TA) in different proportions in mass: S1 = 100% TA, S2 = 100% JM, S3 = 50% TA and 50 % JM, S4 = 25% JM and 75% TA, S5 = 75% JM and 25% TA. With the combination of species and substrates, 30 treatments were generated. The heavy metals evaluated were Pb, As, Cu. Fe, Cr and Zn, in root, leaf and stem. The results showed significant statistical differences (p vy metals in interaction with S3. These two species can be used in the remediation of open pit tailing dam.
