Regurgitation in the heart diastolic phase represents a critical flow condition associated with many heart valve design considerations. The finite volume method, the Low-Reynolds-Number k-ω turbulent model and sliding mesh model are employed to solve and compare the complex flow field and the torque in each case. The end results expected from a cardiovascular CFD analysis are not limited only to the flowfield investigations. More importantly, it needs an evaluation criterion to judge if the design is acceptable as considered from a broader blood cell damage or activation perspective. In this study, blood cell damage index developed based on stress-time empirical rule and Lagrangian particle tracking is introduced to assess the viscous and turbulence-induced stresses effect to the blood cells.

During the boreal summer,intraseasonal oscillations exhibit significant interannual variations in intensity over two key regions:the central-western equatorial Pacific(5°S-5°N,150°E-150°W)and the subtropical Northwestern Pacific(10°-20°N,130°E-175°W).The former is well-documented and considered to be influenced by the ENSO,while the latter has received comparatively less attention and is likely influenced by the Pacific Meridional Mode(PMM),as suggested by partial correlation analysis *** elucidate the physical processes responsible for the enhanced(weakened)intraseasonal convection over the subtropical northwestern Pacific during warm(cold)PMM years,the authors employed a moisture budget *** findings reveal that during warm PMM years,there is an increase in summer-mean moisture over the subtropical northwestern *** increase interacts with intensified vertical motion perturbations in the region,leading to greater vertical moisture advection in the lower troposphere and consequently resulting in convective *** a process is pivotal in amplifying intraseasonal convection *** observational findings were further verified by model experiments forced by PMM-like sea surface temperature patterns.

This paper studies the continuous evolution of breaking wave for the surface water waves propagating on a sloping beach. A Lagrangian asymptotic solution is derived. According to the solution coupled with the wave breaking criteria and the equations of water particles motion, the wave deformation and the continuous wave breaking processes for the progressive water waves propagating on a sloping bottom can be derived. A series of experiments are also conducted to compare with the theoretical solution. The results show that the present solution can reasonably describe the plunging or spilling wave breaking phenomenon.

In the present contribution,we demonstrate that the sluggish kinetics of oxygen evolution reaction(OER)over the bismuth sulfide(Bi_(2)S_(3))photoanode,which severely restricts its photoelectrochemical activity,is markedly accelerated by employing a sulfatecontaining ***-principle calculation points to the spontaneous adsorption of sulfate(SO_(4)^(2−))on Bi_(2)S_(3)and its capacity of stabilizing the OER intermediates through hydrogen bonding,which is further reinforced by increasing the local density of states near the Fermi level of Bi_(2)S_(3).Meanwhile,the electron transfer is also promoted to synergistically render the ratedetermining step(from O*to OOH*)of OER over Bi_(2)S_(3)kinetically *** but not least,benefitting from such enhanced OER activity and efficient charge separation resulted from depositing Bi_(2)S_(3)on the zinc oxide nanorods(ZnO NRs),forming a core–shell heterojunction,its photocurrent density achieves 8.61 mA·cm^(−2)at 1.23 VRHE,far surpassing those reported for additional Bi_(2)S_(3)-based and several state-of-the-art photoanodes in the literature and further exceeding their theoretical *** great promise of the Bi_(2)S_(3)/ZnO NRs is in view of such outperformance,the superior Faradaic yield of oxygen of more than~80%and the outstanding half-cell applied bias photon-to-current efficiency of~1%well corroborated.

BACKGROUND Giant multilocular cystadenoma(GMC)of the prostate gland is a very rare benign *** the benign nature has been known,complete surgical excision is the major treatment consensus because of its high recurrence *** report a rare case of GMC with accompanying lower urinary tract symptoms and repeated urine retention initially thought to be symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia,which was treated with robot-assisted laparoscopic radical *** SUMMARY A 65-year-old man presented with a 2-year history of lower urinary tract symptoms that had deteriorated gradually within the previous six months,even though he had received treatment with a selective alpha-blocking *** had undergone two transurethral resections of the prostate(TURP)at a local hospital during a 4-mo interval because initial ultrasound imaging and prostatic core needle biopsy showed benign prostate *** the third recurrence,the patient underwent TURP with a green-light laser at our *** diagnosis was a tumor composed of variously sized dilated glandular and cystic structures lined by blended prostatic type epithelia positive for prostate-specific antigen;the final diagnosis was giant multilocular *** resonance imaging showed a large multilocular retrovesical mass 8.0 cm×7.3 cm×6.4 cm,with heterogeneous enhancement.A coexisting malignant part could not be *** the high recurrence rate,risk of coexisting malignancy,and possible sequelae of open surgery for radical excision,the patient decided to undergo robot-assisted radical prostatectomy,with good outcomes at the 2-year *** Robot-assisted surgery for the treatment of prostate GMC provides another choice for simultaneous attention to disease-control and postoperative quality of life.

The switch from methadone to buprenorphine-naloxone for individuals with heroin dependence is associated with several obstacles and *** patients may experience discomfort from discontinuing methadone, precipitated withdrawal symptoms induced by buprenorphine-naloxone,and poor psychosocial adjustments such as anticipatory anxiety regarding severe opioid *** herein describe a 46-year-old man with a history of heroin dependence who underwent Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)-facilitated switching from methadone to buprenorphine-naloxone. No precipitated withdrawal was induced by buprenorphine-naloxone. The drug-switching process was successful and smooth. He maintained abstinence from heroin for the following year. In this case, we applied TCM for enhancement of methadone metabolism and detoxification, analgesic effects, and anxiolytic and hypnotic effects during the drug switch. We observed that TCM effectively facilitated the switch from methadone to buprenorphine-naloxone in our case. Further studies regarding TCM-facilitated treatment for heroin dependence should be conducted.

Several high-performance and tunable erbium-doped fiber lasers are reviewed. They are constructed by using fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) or short-wavelength-pass filters (SWPFs) as wavelength tunable components inside the laser cavity. Broadband wavelength tuning range including C- and/or S-band was achieved, and tunable laser output with high slope efficiency, high side-mode suppression ratio was obtained. These fiber lasers can find vast applications in lightwave transmission, optical test instrument, fiber-optic gyros, spectroscopy, material processing, biophotonic imaging, and fiber sensor technologies.

AIM: To study the "hospital type-outcome" and "volumeoutcome" relationships in patients with esophageal cancer who receive non-surgical ***: A total of 6106 patients with esophageal cancer diagnosed between 2008 and 2011 were identified from a national population-based cancer registry in Taiwan. The hospital types were defined as medical center and non-medical center. The threshold for high-volume hospitals was based on a median volume of 225 cases between 2008 and 2011(annual volume, > 56 cases) or an upper quartile(> 75%) volume of 377 cases(annual volume > 94 cases). Cox regression analyses were used to determine the effects of hospital type and volume outcome on patient ***: A total of 3955 non-surgically treated patients were included in the survival analysis. In the unadjusted analysis, the significant prognostic factors included c T, c N, c M stage, hospital type and hospital volume(annual volume, > 94 vs ≤ 94). The 1- and 3-year overall survival rates in the non-medical centers(36.2% and 13.2%, respectively) were significantly higher than those in the medical centers(33.5% and 11.3%, respectively; P = 0.027). The 1- and 3-year overall survival rates in hospitals with an annual volume of ≤ 94(35.3% and 12.6%, respectively) were significantly higher than those with an annual volume of > 94(31.1% and 9.4%, respectively; P = 0.001). However, in the multivariate analysis, the hospital type was not statistically significant. Only c T, c N, and c M stages and hospital volume(annual volume > 94 vs ≤94) were independent prognostic ***: Whether the treatment occurs in medicalcenters is not a significant prognostic factor. Highvolume hospitals were not associated with better survival rates compared with low-volume hospitals.

Based on the cosmological principle and quantum Yang-Mills gravity in the super-macroscopic limit, we obtain an exact recession velocity and cosmic redshift z, as measured in an inertial frame F≡F(t,x,y,z). For a matter-dominated universe, we have the effective cosmic metric tensor Gμν(t)=(B^2(t),-A^2(t),-A^2(t),-A^2(t)), A∝B∝t^1/2, where t has the operational meaning of time in F frame. We assume a cosmic action S≡Scos involving Gμν(t) and derive the ‘Okubo equation’ of motion, G^μν(t)■μS■νS-m^2=0, for a distant galaxy with mass m. This cosmic equation predicts an exact recession velocity, r=rH/[1/2+√1/4+r^2H^2/C0^2]
