Roadside dust contamination with toxic metals along industrial area in Islamabad, Pakistan

An investigation has been carried out to understand the contamination characteristics of roadside dust in the industrial area of Islamabad, Pakistan. The amounts of Si, S, Cl, K, Ca, Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Pb,Zn, Ga, As, Se and Cd were determined from 95 roadside dust samples collected along the Islamabad industrial area using Proton Induced X-ray Emission(PIXE). The results indicated that concentrations of all elements,except Cd, in the roadside dust were significant. The results of the enrichment factor show that the elementary composition of the roadside dust could be categorized as soil elements from the crust of the earth and elements from anthropogenic pollution. The high enrichment factors imply that elements such Cr, Cu, Pb, Zn, As, Se,Cd, Ni, Co and S came from anthropogenic activities. The source of metal contamination was identified using multivariate statistical analysis. It has been concluded that Ca, Sc, Ti, V, Mn and Fe mainly originate from crustal sources; Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn and Ga are associated with point-sources from industrial pollution/traffic;and S, Cl, K, As and Se are mainly related to oil/coal combustion.

Analysis and design of handover in multicell cooperation networks: a field trial

Cooperative communication networks have been studied and analyzed for many years for enhancing system performance,capacity,and reducing interference with the least focus on handover in cooperative communication *** paper focuses on trial field testing system for evaluating the proposed handover scheme called slide handover(HO).An automatic power allocation technique is coupled with slide HO scheme and its performance is also evaluated under cooperative *** proposed scheme has achieved 100%successful HO executions in our field trial *** error rate(BLER)and slide HO are tested and analyzed in this trial system,and it is shown that the capacity of cooperative networks in these trials implementation has improved and maintained the expected quality of *** below1%is noted at different testing locations which occasionally reached to 10%.Real-time video streaming performance is tested at different trial locations,and uniform streaming performance is noted at all different locations including during the HO *** implies the improved HO delay of the proposed slide HO as compared to traditional HO techniques.

Exploration of uniform heat flux on the flow and heat transportation of ferrofluids along a smooth plate： Comparative investigation

The paper is devoted to a new extension in Gegenbauer wavelet method （GWM） to investigate the transfer of heat and MHD boundary-layer flow of ferrofluids beside a flat plate with velocity slip. A homogenous model study is conducted in which we assumed the heat transfer and forced convective flow of ferrofluids along a flat plate with a uniform wall heat flux. In the direction of transverse to plate, a magnetic field is imposed. Three various magnetic nanoparticle types including Mn-ZnFe204, CoFe204, Fe3O4 are incorporated inside the base fluid. Two types of base fluids （water and kerosene） with bad thermal conductivity as compared to nanoparticles of solid magnetic have been assumed. The mathematical model is tackled via modified Gegenbauer wavelet method （MGWM）. A simulation is accomplished for individual ferrofluid mixture by assuming the prevailing impacts of uniform and slip heat fluxes. The variation of heat transfers and skin friction were also observed at the surface of the plate and we analyzed the better heat transfer for every mixture. Kerosene-based magnetite （Fe304） delivers the better rate of heat transfer at wall due to its association with the kerosene-based Mn-Zn and cobalt ferrites. The slip velocity and magnetic field effects on the temperature, dimensionless velocity, rate of heat transfer and skin friction are examined for various magnetic nanoparticles inside the kerosene oil and water. We observed that the primary influence of magnetic field reduces the dimensionless surface temperature and accelerates the dimensionless velocity as compared to the hydrodynamic case, thus enhancing the rate of heat transfer and skin friction ferrofluids. Moreover, a detailed evaluation of outcomes obtained by MGWM, already published work and numerical RK-4 were found to be in excellent agreement. The error and convergence analysis are presented. Mg alloy was protected with Mg:Al layered double hydroxide(LDH)coating intercalated with three green corrosion inhibitors(sodium benzoate,3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane and 8-hydroxyquinoline).The in-situ hydrothermal approach was adopted to intercalate corrosion inhibitors into Mg:Al LDH *** intercalated Mg:Al LDH coating was successfully acquired,and the crystalline structure of Mg:Al LDH coating was verified with X-ray diffraction(XRD).The organic functional groups of corrosion inhibitors were identified with the help of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).The compact and uniform morphology was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The electrochemical measurement revealed better corrosion resistance of corrosion inhibitorintercalated Mg:Al LDH coatings as compared to that of pristine Mg *** corrosion protection mechanism of corrosion inhibitors was described and unearthed the corrosion inhibitor with the best performance.

Radioactive contents and background doses from northern alluvial sediment plains between rivers Ravi and Chenab,Pakistan

Radiometric analysis of soil samples, collected from northern alluvial sediment plains between rivers Ravi and Chenab, has been carried out. Activity concentrations of^(226) Ra,^(232)Th,^(40) K and the artificial radionuclide^(137) Cs were estimated by using high-purity germanium detector. Subsequent values of activity concentrations were used to find terrestrial absorbed dose rate and annual effective doses received by resident of area. The mean radioactivity levels of^(226) Ra,^(232)Th,^(40) K and^(137)Cs were found to be 45.0 ± 1.3,59.6 ± 2.8, 613.8 ± 20.0 and 4.0 ± 0.2 Bq kg^(-1), respectively. Terrestrial absorbed dose rate and annual effective dose received by public were found to be 85.1 n Gy h^(-1)and0.5 m Sv, respectively. The activity concentrations of^(226) Ra,^(232)Th,^(40) K and^(137)Cs and resulting doses obtained for the current study were compared with data available in the literature and with international standards.
