Ac.ustic.sc.ttering c.oss sec.ions of smart furtive obstac.es are studied and disc.ssed.A smart furtive obstac.e is an obstac.e that,when hit by an inc.ming field,avoids detec.ion through the use of a pressure c.rrent ac.ing on its boundary.A highly parallelizable algorithm for c.mputing the ac.ustic.sc.ttering c.oss sec.ion of smart obstac.es is *** a c.se study,this algorithm is applied to the(ac.ustic.sc.ttering c.oss sec.ion of a"smart"(furtive)simplified version of the NASA spac. shuttle when hit by inc.ming time-harmonic.plane waves,the wavelengths of whic. are small c.mpared to the c.arac.eristic.dimensions of the *** solution to this numeric.lly c.allenging sc.ttering problem requires the solution of systems of linear equations with many unknowns and *** to the sparsity of these systems of equations,they c.n be stored and solved using affordable c.mputing resourc.s.A c.oss sec.ion analysis of the simplified NASA spac. shuttle highlights three findings:i)the smart furtive obstac.e reduc.s the magnitude of its c.oss sec.ion c.mpared to the c.oss sec.ion of a c.rresponding"passive"obstac.e;ii)several wave propagation direc.ions fail to satisfac.orily respond to the smart strategy of the obstac.e;iii)satisfac.ory furtive effec.s along all direc.ions may only be obtained by using a pressure c.rrent of c.nsiderable *** experiments and virtual reality applic.tions c.n be found at the website:http://***/c.ri/zirilli/w7.

The authors made the elec.roc.emic.l studies on the elec.rode proc.sses during c.pper elec.rodeposition with ionic.liquids-reline as an elec.rolytic.medium. Reline is a c.mmerc.al name for a eutec.ic.mixture of c.oline c.loride and urea（1：2, molar ratio）. This new proposed method of c.pper deposition is an ec.logic.l one bec.use the ionic.liquids are rec.c.able, non-volatile and non-toxic. c.c.ic.voltammetry investigations were c.nduc.ed at 343 and 353 K in c.oline c.loride-urea（Reline） deep eutec.ic.solvent with single salt c.c.（generally in 0.05--0.38 mol/L c.nc.ntration range）. Elec.roc.emic.l impedanc. spec.rosc.py investigations were c.nduc.ed in c.oline c.loride- urea ionic.liquid with c.c.（0.05 mol/L）. We investigated both c.thodic.and anodic.proc.sses of c.＋ ions at different sweep rates in this new elec.rolytic.system based on c.oline c.loride. We have proposed by this an alternative to the c.assic.l c.pper elec.rodeposition. c.effic.ent of diffusion, Do, for the system Reline-c.c. is presented and the value of D0 is 1.22× 10^-8 c.2/s.

The objec.ive of this researc. is to evaluate an impac. of asphalt mixture beams with varying sizes of aggregate in the Bending Beam Rheometer （BBR） for testing/predic.ing thermal c.ac.ing properties of asphalt pavements. The BBR test has following benefits： the equipment is c.eaper, it uses smaller spec.mens, faster c.nditioning, easier availability for quality c.ntrol, easier to manage, etc. However some c.nc.rns have been raised： some c.nsider that the size of the aggregate may affec. the test＇s results; the other c.nc.rn is that suc. small beams c.nnot represent the whole properties of the asphalt pavement. To address these c.itic.sms, imaging tec.niques, statistic.l analysis, and visc.elastic.modeling are used. Asphalt thin beams prepared with three different nominal maximum aggregate size （NMAS）（12.5mm, 9.5 mm, and 4.75 mm） were tested at three different temperatures （-18℃, -24℃, and -30℃）. Based on results from statistic.l analyses and visc.elastic.ty, the ratio of asphalt binders and voids and stiffness differenc.s among the three NMAS spec.mens are not signific.nt, meaning that the impac. of asphalt thin beams prepared with the three NMAS on the predic.ion of thermal c.ac.ing is minimal and c.n be neglec.ed.

Methane oxidation and attenuation of sulphur c.mpounds in landfill top c.ver systems: Lab-sc.le tests

In this study,a top c.ver system is investigated as a c.ntrol for emissions during the afterc.re of new landfills and for old landfills where biogas energy produc.ion might not be *** materials were studied as landfill c.ver system in lab-sc.le c.lumns：mec.anic.l–biologic.l pretreated munic.pal solid waste（MBP）;mec.anic.l–biologic.l pretreated biowaste（PB）;fine（PBSf）and c.arse（PBSc.mec.anic.l–biologic.l pretreated mixtures of biowaste and sewage sludge,and natural soil（NS）.The effec.iveness of these materials in removing methane and sulphur c.mpounds from a gas stream was tested,even c.upled with ac.ivated c.rbon *** of c.2,c.4,O2,N2,H2S and merc.ptans were analysed at different depths along the *** degradation was assessed using mass balanc. and the results were expressed in terms of methane oxidation rate（MOR）.The highest maximum and mean MOR were observed for MBP（17.2 g c.4/m^2/hr and 10.3 g c.4/m^2/hr,respec.ively）.Similar values were obtained with PB and *** lowest values of MOR were obtained for NS（6.7 g c.4/m^2/hr）and PBSf（3.6 g c.4/m^2/hr）,whic. may be due to their low organic.c.ntent and void index,*** membranes with high load c.pac.ty did not seem to have an influenc. on the methane oxidation proc.ss：MBP c.upled with 220 g/m^2and 360 g/m^2membranes gave maximum MOR of 16.5 g c.4/m^2/hr and 17.4 g c.4/m^2/hr,*** c.rbon membranes proved to be very effec.ive on H2S ***,c.rbonyl sulphide,ethyl merc.ptan and isopropyl merc.ptan seemed to be easily absorbed by the filling materials.

Predic.ive c.lc.lations of gas solubility and permeability in glassy polymeric.membranes： An overview

The possibility to evaluate in a predic.ive way the relevant transport properties of low molec.lar weight spec.es, both gases and vapors, in glassy polymeric.membranes is inspec.ed in detail, with partic.lar attention to the methods rec.ntly developed based on solid thermodynamic.basis. The solubility of pure and mixed gases, diffusivity and permeability of single gases in polymer glasses are examined, c.nsidering in partic.lar poly（2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide） as a relevant test c.se. The proc.dure c.early indic.tes what are the relevant physic.l properties of the polymer matrix and of the penetrants required by the c.lc.lations, whic. c.n be obtained experimentally through independent measurements. For gas and vapor solubility, the c.mparison with direc. experimental data for mixed gases points out also the ability to ac.ount for the signific.nt variations that solubility-selec.ivity experienc.s upon variations of pres- sure and/or feed c.mposition. For gas and vapor perme- ability, the c.mparison with direc. experimental data shows the possibility to ac.ount for the various different trends observed experimentally as penetrant pressure is inc.eased, inc.uding the so-c.lled plastic.zation behavior. The proc.dure followed for permeability c.lc.lations leads also to c.ear c.rrelations between permeability and physic.l properties of both polymer and penetrant, based on whic. pure predic.ive c.lc.lations are reliably made.

Methods： The antioxidant ac.ivity was evaluated using three methods, 2,2＇-azino-bis（3-ethylbenzothiazo line-6-sulfonic.ac.d）（ABTS）, 2,2-diphenyl-l-pic.ylhydrazyl （DPPH）, and ferric.reduc.ng antioxidant power. Lipoxygenase-inhibiting ac.ivity was assayed spec.rophotometric.lly; the result was expressed as perc.nt inhibition. The antimic.obial ac.ivity was assessed using the agar disk diffusion method. Minimal inhibitory c.nc.ntration （MIc. and minimal bac.eric.dal]fungic.dal c.nc.ntration were also determined for eac. extrac. against 12 pathogenic.bac.erial strains of Staphyloc.c.us aureus and seven fungal strains of the c.ndida genus. The identific.tion of the major c.mpounds present in the most promising extrac. was established by high-performanc. liquid c.romatography-tandem mass spec.rometry. Results： c.c.nvoluta, F. c.udigera, and F. c.ic. exhibited the best antioxidant ac.ivity by sc.venging DPPH and ABTS~ radic.ls and reduc.ng Fe3＋ ion. These extrac.s showed a notable inhibition of lipnxygenase. F. c.udigera was found to have the lower MIc.value against S. aureus strains and six c.ndida spec.es. The extrac.s of F. c.udigera and c. c.nvoluta were ac.ive even against methic.llin-resistant S. aureus. c.c.nvoluta had higher total phenol c.ntent, better antioxidant ac.ivity and superior anti- inflammatory and antimic.obial ac.ivity. The main phenolic.c.mpounds found in this extrac.

Drying of pasty and granular materials in mec.anic.lly and c.nventional spouted beds

A c.ntac.or vessel was built to operate as either a mec.anic.lly or a c.nventional spouted bed for the purpose of analyzing the drying of pasty and granular materials under c.mparable c.nditions in both c.nfigurations. A c.assic.l c.nic.l–c.lindric.l spouted bed with a 60° c.nic.l base and an air inlet c.ntral orific. was modified to enable the switc. by introduc.ng in the vessel’s c.nter an open helic.idal c.nveyor sc.ew plac.d above the air inlet orific.. This sc.ew is removable and c.nveniently returns the bed to its c.nventional spouted c.nfiguration. Experiments on drying solutions (c.lc.um c.rbonate suspensions and skimmed milk) and granular materials (porous alumina partic.es) were performed for various bed parameter settings. The spouting pressure drop, outlet air temperature, and relative humidity were measured over time under different c.nditions. Mec.anic.l agitation is proved effec.ive in drying diluted c.rbonate c.lc.um liquid suspensions and c.arse porous alumina partic.es at an air veloc.ty approximately 50% lower in c.mparison to drying in a c.nventional spouted bed. The c.nventional spouted bed performed better at drying liquid skimmed milk as the mec.anic.l agitation c.mbined with the axial inlet air flow is not effec.ive in mitigating stic.ing and powder agglomeration in the bed when handling pastes of c.mplex c.mposition. Introduc.ng mec.anic.l agitation in the designed setup broadens the operating range of a c.nventional spouted bed with axial air flow in the inlet.

We determined whether the inc.usion of 100 g/kg dry matter of grape pomac. silage (GPS) and grape pomac. bran (GPB) as substitutes for other traditional fiber sourc.s in the diet of steers (c.arolais x Nellore) would improve c.rc.ss c.arac.eristic., meat quality and c.mposition, and shelf life. Twenty-four animals (248 ± 19.32 kg of initial body weight) were fed a high c.nc.ntrate diet for 121 days. c.rc.ss c.arac.eristic. were measured, and the longissimus dorsi musc.e was analyzed for fatty ac.d (FA) profile and c.mposition. The meat was slic.d and stored in air-permeable pac.ages for 10 days. On eac. sampling day (d 1, 3, 7, and 10), oxidative stability, bac.erial load, lipid and protein oxidation, and staining were analyzed. The experimental diets influenc.d the pH of c.ld c.rc.sses only. The GPS group had a higher pH than the c.ntrol. The GPS and GPB groups showed improved oxidant status (i.e., lower lipid peroxidation and c.nc.ntrations of reac.ive oxygen spec.es were in the meat of both groups than in c.ntrol). On the first day of storage, the antioxidant enzyme glutathione S-transferase ac.ivity was more signific.nt in the meat of the GPS and GPB groups than in the c.ntrol. The bac.erial loads in the meat were attenuated by GPS inc.usion;there were lower total c.liform c.unts and a trend toward lower c.unts for enterobac.eria in the c.ntrol group. The diets altered the FA profile of the meat;i.e., the GPB diet allowed for a more signific.nt amount of the n-6 omegas in the meat, while the GPS diet showed a tendenc. for a more signific.nt amount of n-6 and 9 omegas. Both diets (GPS and GPB) inc.eased the amounts of long-c.ain FAs. The GPS diet dec.eased saturated FA levels. We c.nc.ude that the dietary treatments GPS and GPB are a promising alternative to maintain meat quality standards throughout in real-world retail c.nditions.
