This work presents,design and specific absorption rate(SAR)analysis of a 37GHz antenna,for 5th Generation(5G)*** proposed antenna comprises of 4-elements of rectangular patch and an even *** radiating element is composed of copper material supported by Rogers RT5880 substrate of thickness,0.254 mm,dielectric constant(εr),2.2,and loss tangent,*** 4-elements array antenna is compact in size with a dimension of 8mm×20mm in length and *** radiating patch is excited with a 50 ohms connector i.e.,*** antenna resonates in the frequency band of 37 GHz,that covers the 5G *** antenna behavior is studied both in free space and in the proximity of the human *** models of the human body,i.e.,belly,hand,and head(contain skin,fat,muscles,and bone)are considered for on-body *** resonant frequency,the antenna gives a boresight gain of 11.6 *** antenna radiates efficiently with a radiated efficiency of more than 90%.Also,it is observed that the antenna detunes to the lowest in the proximity of the human body,but still a good impedance matching is achieved considering the−10 dB ***,SAR is also being *** safe limit of 2 W/kg for any 10 g of biological tissue,specified by the European International Electro Technical Commission(IEC)has been *** calculated values of SAR for human body models,i.e.,belly,hand and head are 1.82,1.81 and 1.09 W/kg,*** SAR values are less than the international recommendations for the three ***,the simulated and measured results of the antenna are in close agreement,which makes it,a potential candidate for the fifth-generation smart phones and other handheld devices.

Water-induced softening behavior of clay-rich sandstone in Lanzhou Water Supply Project,China

The strength of clay-rich sandstone decreases significantly when in contact with water due to softening *** scenario can pose a severe threat to the stability of water diversion tunnels during construction and operation *** address the issues related to water-induced softening in clay-rich sandstone zones in a water diversion tunnel of Lanzhou Water Supply Project,the microscopic and micromechanical variations of rocks due to increasing water content in two different zones *** A and B,were determined by various testing methods,such as X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),thin section microscopy,micro-indentation test,sonic velocity test,and slake durability *** microscopic analysis confirms the presence of montmorillonite mineral which is the dominant problematic geomaterial in engineering *** integrity and durability of clay-rich sandstone were determined with sonic velocity and slake durability tests to calibrate the results obtained by the micro-indentation *** shows that the elastic modulus and hardness of clay-rich sandstone decrease with the increase of saturation time,up to 144 h,which is more significant and rapid during early stage of *** 144 h of saturation,the elastic modulus decreases by 89% and 97%,and the hardness decreases by 89% and 99% for zones A and B sandstones,*** results of slake durability and sonic velocity indicate that zone A sandsto ne remains 56.19% durability after 144 h of saturation,while zone B sandstone loses its durability merely after 72 h of *** clay-rich sandstone starts to dissolve in water when the saturation time exceeds 144 *** significant decreases in strength and durability of clay-rich sandstone due to water-induced softening are serious threats to tunnel *** improvements in the strength of surrounding rock mass by grouting and permeability by installation of drainage galleries can reduce the damage caused by wat

Framework for atomic-level characterisation of quantum computer arrays by machine learning

Atomic-level qubits in silicon are attractive candidates for large-scale quantum computing;however,their quantum properties and controllability are sensitive to details such as the number of donor atoms comprising a qubit and their precise *** work combines machine learning techniques with million-atom simulations of scanning tunnelling microscopic(STM)images of dopants to formulate a theoretical framework capable of determining the number of dopants at a particular qubit location and their positions with exact lattice site precision.A convolutional neural network(CNN)was trained on 100,000 simulated STM images,acquiring a characterisation fidelity(number and absolute donor positions)of>98% over a set of 17,600 test images including planar and blurring noise commensurate with experimental *** formalism is based on a systematic symmetry analysis and feature-detection processing of the STM images to optimise the computational *** technique is demonstrated for qubits formed by single and pairs of closely spaced donor atoms,with the potential to generalise it for larger donor *** method established here will enable a high-precision post-fabrication characterisation of dopant qubits in silicon,with high-throughput potentially alleviating the requirements on the level of resources required for quantum-based characterisation,which will otherwise be a challenge in the context of large qubit arrays for universal quantum computing.

Gliomas are the most aggressive brain tumors caused by the abnormal growth of brain *** life expectancy of patients diagnosed with gliomas decreases *** gliomas are diagnosed in later stages,resulting in imminent *** average,patients do not survive 14 months after *** only way to minimize the impact of this inevitable disease is through early *** Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI)scans,because of their better tissue contrast,are most frequently used to assess the brain *** manual classification of MRI scans takes a reasonable amount of time to classify brain *** this,dealing with MRI scans manually is also cumbersome,thus affects the classification *** eradicate this problem,researchers have come up with automatic and semiautomatic methods that help in the automation of brain tumor classification ***,many techniques have been devised to address this issue,the existing methods still struggle to characterize the enhancing *** is because of low variance in enhancing region which give poor contrast in MRI *** this study,we propose a novel deep learning based method consisting of a series of steps,namely:data pre-processing,patch extraction,patch pre-processing,and a deep learning model with tuned hyper-parameters to classify all types of gliomas with a focus on enhancing *** trained model achieved better results for all glioma classes including the enhancing *** improved performance of our technique can be attributed to several ***,the non-local mean filter in the pre-processing step,improved the image detail while removing irrelevant ***,the architecture we employ can capture the non-linearity of all classes including the enhancing ***,the segmentation scores achieved on the Dice Similarity Coefficient(DSC)metric for normal,necrosis,edema,enhancing and non-enhancing tumor classes are 0.95,0.97,0.91,0.93,0.95;respectively.

Geostatistical data plays a vibrant role for surface-based reservoir modeling through outcrop analogues,which is used to understand three-dimensional(3D)variability of petrophysical *** main purpose of this study is to improvise the surface-based 3D geo-modeling to demonstrate petrophysical characteristics and heterogeneities of Sandakan reservoirs,NW *** used point cloud data from Light Detection and Ranging(Li DAR)to build high-resolution virtual outcrop modeling(VOM)onto which we mapped 6 different *** and permeability of core plugs were measured to determine the average variance of petrophysical properties for each *** utilizing the integration of VOMs analogues and petrophysical properties in Petrel^(TM),we demonstrated the distribution and associations of all lithofacies in pseudo wells that have inherent thin beds heterogeneities in 3D geocellular *** results concluded that the heterogeneity of thin beds in lithofacies is dependent on porosity and permeability with input *** to the final model,cross-bedding sandstone(CBS),hummocky cross-stratified sandstone(HCSS)and trough cross-bedding sandstone(TCBS)show good reservoir quality due to high porosity ranging from:25.6%to 20.4%and,19.3%-14.5%,and permeability ranging from:74.03 mD to 66.84 mD and,64.86 mD to 21.01 *** contrast,massive to weak laminae sandstone(MWLS)and bioturbated sandstone(BS)show fair to poor reservoir quality,caused baffling of surrounding mud sediments in the reservoir *** also revealed that Li DAR based VOM with petrophysical properties can significantly reduce the risk and minimize the cost of reservoir modeling in petroleum industry.

Self-mixing interferometry(SMI)is an attractive sensing scheme that typically relies on mono-modal operation of an employed laser ***,change in laser modality can occur due to change in operating ***,detection of occurrence of multi-modality in SMI signals is necessary to avoid erroneous metric ***,processing of multi-modal SMI signals is a difficult task due to the diverse and complex nature of such ***,the proposed techniques can significantly ease this task by identifying the modal state of SMI signals with 100%success rate so that interferometric fringes can be correctly interpreted for metric sensing applications.

Application of BCP-2007 and UBC-97 in seismic vulnerability assessment of gravity designed RC buildings in Pakistan

Recent earthquakes in Pakistan （Kashmir 2005, Balochistan 2008, and Balochistan 2013） revealed the vulnerability of existing building stock and the deficiencies in the then prevalent Pakistan Seismic Code （PSC-86 （1986））. This study investigates, through an analytical framework, the seismic vulnerability of these and other such buildings, in accordance with the newly developed Building Code of Pakistan - Seismic Provisions 2007 （BCP-SP 07）. Detailed failure mode is presented for buildings designed as per the new code. Collapse of structures is predicted for only 8% increase in PGA after moderate damage. A previously developed method, based on Eurocode-8 （2004）, is used as baseline. A deficient reinforced concrete frame, typical to local building practices, is analyzed and assessed for vulnerability using the BCP- SP 07 （2007） framework. A comparison is drawn for the same building, based on Eurocode- 8 （2004）. Derived vulnerability curves show that the previous framework overestimated the damage and hence the vulnerability. Comparison of vulnerability parameters with previous studies show slight difference in performance of buildings.

Mango peel is an important agro-industrial waste that has high levels of polyphenols and dietary *** is an obvious shortage of product variety in the food sector,making research into new product creation even more ***,only mango pulp is utilized in commercial items,resulting in the loss of the fruit’s other components,which contain important *** investigations on the extraction of bioactive components from mango peel have been undertaken,covering both classic techniques(direct boiling,solvent macerating,distillation,and compression)and green extraction technology(ultrasound-assisted,enzyme-assisted,and ultrasound-assisted enzyme technique).Several approaches may be used to extract carotenoids,dietary fiber,and phenolic *** fiber and polyphenol intake have been linked to improved gut *** bioactivity and the risk of metabolic disorders may be affected by gut *** gut microbiota is vital for human health because it affects many host defensive mechanisms by enhancing antioxidant activity,tripling lactic acid bacteria,and assisting in the production of a superior prebiotic *** review provides an overview of the high-quality extraction of dietary fiber and polyphenols from mango peel and also the interactions of these dietary compounds with gut microflora and associated health benefits and underlying mechanisms.

Induction motors have been widely used across industry,particularly with smaller loads and fixed speed *** works focus on fault detection of induction motors without considering the shutdown time and production in ***,this work aims to monitor the health conditions of the induction motor continuously through electrical signature analysis(ESA).The proposed technique is capable of predicting different kinds of faults,i.e.,rotor faults,stator phase imbalances,and supply cable faults at early ***,ESA in real time is ***,these current spectra were analyzed in frequency domain and compared with healthy current *** evaluation is implemented by observing these spectra under different faulty conditions.A comparative study is made and analyzed through MATLAB simulations.
