Exploring the Feasibility of a New Low Cost Intra-Dermal Pre &Post Exposure Rabies Prophylaxis Protocol in Domestic Bovine in Jawali Veterinary Hospital, District Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, India

Cattle are the backbone of household economy in rural areas of India and many of them die after bites by potentially rabid dogs, despite being given currently recommended five shots of intramuscular (IM) rabies vaccination as Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP). In 2016, seven of 21 bovine bitten by rabid dogs given IM rabies vaccination died due to rabies in Shimla Municipality. This scenario prompted the authors to look for a suitable protocol, based on human studies, to save animals. We tested various schedules of IDRV in bovine and found that a schedule of 0.2 ml given in middle 1/3rd of neck on day 0, 3, 7, 14 and 28 along with local wound infiltration of eRIG is sufficiently immunogenic and life saving in all of them, even if bitten by lab confirmed rabid dogs/mongoose as tested by CRI. Rabivac Vet, a Cell Culture Rabies Vaccine, available as 1 ml per vial was used off level for IDRV. While injecting the vaccine, a raised papule of ≥1 cm will appear slowly causing a peau d’orange appearance. All 60 bovine serum samples tested by RFFIT after IDRV, had titers more than 0.5 IU/ml on day 14. Thereafter, a total of 150 animals were given five doses of IDRV as PEP, with or without RIG, after their exposure to clinically or lab confirmed rabid dogs/mongoose and all survived for more than a year. Serum samples from 15 animals bitten by lab confirmed rabid dogs/mongoose were collected on day 14 and tested for RVNA by RFFIT from NIMHANS Bangalore and all had desired antibody titers above 0.5 IU/ml, without any immunosuppression. The RFFIT titers in 55% bovine in all groups were more than adequate after one year and 100% of them had anamnestic response to a single 0.2 ml booster given at one year. Estimation of composite load model with aggregate induction motor dynamic load for an isolated hybrid power system

It is well recognized that the voltage stability of a power system is affected by the load model and hence, to effectively analyze the reactive power compensation of an isolated hybrid wind-diesel based power system, the loads need to be considered along with the generators in a transient analysis. This paper gives a detailed mathematical modeling to compute the reactive power response with small voltage perturbation for composite load. The composite load is a combination of the static and dynamic load model. To develop this composite load model, the exponential load is used as a static load model and induction motors （IMs） are used as a dynamic load model. To analyze the dynamics of IM load, the fifth, third and first order model of IM are formulated and compared using differential equations solver in Matlab coding. Since the decentralized areas have many small consumers which may consist large numbers of IMs of small rating, it is not realistic to model either a single large rating unit or all small rating IMs together that are placed in the system. In place of using a single large rating IM, a group of motors are considered and then the aggregate model of IM is developed using the law of energy conservation. This aggregate model is used as a dynamic load model. For different simulation studies, especially in the area of voltage stability with reactive power compensation of an isolated hybrid power system, the transfer function AQ/AV of the composite load is required. The transfer function of the composite load is derived in this paper by successive derivation for the exponential model of static load and for the fifth and third order IM dynamic load model using state space model.

Antioxidant and modulatory role of Chlorophytum borivilianum against arsenic induced testicular impairment

Arsenic has a suppressive influence on spermatogenesis and induces impairment in male reproductive system due to oxidative stress. The present study was aimed to test the arsenic induced toxicity and protection by Chlorophytum borivilianum. The effect of sodium arsenite （4 mg/（kg body weight （bw）.day）） via double distilled water without or with C. borivilianum （800 mg/（kg ***）） was evaluated in Swiss albino mice for 30 days. The radical scavenging activity of the aqueous C. borivilianum root extract was measured using DPPH （1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrayzyl） radical. Qualitative assessment of various cell types in the testis, sperm count and motility, testicular activity of lipid peroxidation （LPO）, reduced glutathione （GSH）, acid and alkaline phosphatase, cholesterol and serum testosterone were monitored. Arsenic treatment showed a significant increase in LPO, acid and alkaline phosphatase, cholesterol and decrease in sperm count, sperm motility, GSH and serum testosterone. Combined treatment showed significant decrease in LPO, acid and alkaline phosphatase, cholesterol and elevation in sperm count, sperm motility, GSH and serum testosterone. Testicular histopathology showed that C. borivilianum had reduced degeneration of germ cell in the seminiferous tubules and loss of sperms induced by arsenic intoxication. The results thus led us to conclude that administration of C. borivilianum root extract is found to be protective against arsenic induced toxicity.

Spontaneous Rabies in a Stray Bitch after Parturition Induced Immunosuppression —Investigating an Impending Outbreak of Rabies with One Health Approach

Background: Rabies is endemic in India and every half an hour a person dies of this dreaded disease. Stray roaming dogs, mostly unvaccinated, are most dangerous host in spread of rabies in India and in our state of Himachal Pradesh. Timely prophylaxis is the only method to save animal bite victims, including that of rabid dog bite patients. Objectives: Objective of this study was to investigate an impending outbreak of rabies in Shimla town in the absence of life saving rabies immunoglobulins (RIGs) in the market, and to know the source of infection by using one health approach and using epidemiological tools. Methods: On April 7, 2015, there was a sudden surge in cases of suspected rabid dog bites. Impending rabies outbreak was suspected as there were no RIGs available in the market. A rapid Response Team (RRT) consisting of the author, veterinary doctor, dog squad of Municipal Corporation (MC) Shimla along with the vehicles to impound rabid dogs was constituted to investigate the terror spread by two rabid dogs on biting spree in the Shimla Municipality. Results: A total of 18 people were bitten by suspected rabid dogs within three days period. A black bitch and a brown dog, on the identity of affected people, were captured by the dog squad of Municipality next day on April 8, 2015 and taken to Dog Sterilization Centre, Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme, MC Shimla for observation. The most furious Black bitch died of clinically confirmed symptoms of furious rabies after three days. The second rabid dog, brown in color, died after a month of observation due to paralytic dumb rabies. The brain of the brown dog was extracted for Fluorescent Antibody Testing (FAT) at central research Institute (CRI) Kasauli and was found to be positive for FAT. Follow up of patients was 100% by house to house visit and over telephone and no casualty was reported. PAPR Reduction in NOMA by Using Hybrid Algorithms

Non-orthogonal multiple access(NOMA)is gaining considerable attention due to its features,such as low out-of-band radiation,signal detection capability,high spectrum gain,fast data rate,and massive D2D *** may be considered for 5G ***,the high peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR)is viewed as a significant disadvantage of a NOMA waveform,and it weakens the quality of signals and the throughput of the *** this article,we introduce a modified NOMA system by employing a block of wavelet transform,an alternative to FFT(Fast Fourier transform).The modified system combines the details of fractional frequency and time analysis of NOMA *** this correspondence,we utilize an advanced partial transmission scheme(PTS),and selective mapping(SLM),and present a genetic algorithm(GA)for SLM to investigate the peak power performance of a WT-based NOMA *** performance of WT-SLM,WT-PTS,and WT-SLM-GA methods is compared with that of the traditional NOMAbased SLM and PTS *** simulation results demonstrate that the proposed system effectively reduces PAPR in comparison with the traditional schemes.

Punjabi DeConverter for generating Punjabi from Universal Networking Language

Effects of the type of forest alteration on gross nitrogen mineralization in soils of southern India

Change in land-use practices can result in major shifts in the cycling of various elements,particularly nitrogen(N),which is prone to anthropogenic *** quantifying these shifts,accurate measurements of rates of biogeochemical transformations of N are *** used the(^(15)N) isotope dilution technique to understand the effects of the types of forest alteration on(N) transformation rates by comparing gross N mineralization and ammonium(NH_(4)^(+)) consumption rates in soils of a managed forest,an unmanaged forest,and a rubber plantation in Kerala,***,nitrate(NO_3~-) dominated soils of the managed and unmanaged forests,whereas soils in the rubber plantation showed relatively higher NH_(4)^(+) *** N(TN) and total organic carbon(TOC) concentrations were the highest under the rubber canopy(TN:1.49±0.02 mg N g^(-1);TOC:7.96±0.86 mg C g^(-1)).In soils of all three forest types,gross N mineralization rates were higher compared to NH_(4)^(+) consumption *** high TN and TOC concentrations,the rates of gross N mineralization and NH_(4)^(+) consumption were considerably lower in the rubber plantation(mineralization:1.08±0.08 mg N kg^(-1)d^(-1);consumption:0.85±0.09 mg N kg^(-1) d^(-)) compared to the managed(mineralization:3.71±0.35 mg N kg^(-1) d^(-1);consumption:2.20±1.41 mg N kg^(-1) d^(-1)) and unmanaged(mineralization:2.20±1.07 mg N kg^(-1) d^(-1);consumption:1.39±0.27 mg N kg^(-1) d^(-1)) *** lower NH_(4)^(+) consumption rates in the rubber plantation led to significantly higher(p<0.05) residence time of NH_(4)^(+)(~4 days) compared to the managed and unmanaged forests(<2 days),possibly contributing to acidification of rubber soils(pH~4.8).These results together suggest that replacement of naturally grown forests with a mono-cropped plantation such as rubber negatively impact rates of N transformation processes in tropical soils and imply that change in tree species composition of naturally grown forests can adve

A Novel Variant of Moth Flame Optimizer for Higher Dimensional Optimization Problems

Moth Flame Optimization(MFO)is a nature-inspired optimization algorithm,based on the principle of navigation technique of moth toward *** to less parameter and easy implementation,MFO is used in various field to solve optimization ***,for the complex higher dimensional problems,MFO is unable to make a good trade-off between global and local *** overcome these drawbacks of MFO,in this work,an enhanced MFO,namely WF-MFO,is introduced to solve higher dimensional optimization *** a more optimal balance between global and local search,the original MFO’s exploration ability is improved by an exploration operator,namely,Weibull flight *** addition,the local optimal solutions have been avoided and the convergence speed has been increased using a Fibonacci search process-based technique that improves the quality of the solutions ***-nine benchmark functions of varying complexity with 1000 and 2000 dimensions have been utilized to verify the projected *** popular algorithms and MFO versions have been compared to the achieved *** addition,the robustness of the proposed WF-MFO method has been evaluated using the Friedman rank test,the Wilcoxon rank test,and convergence *** to other methods,the proposed WF-MFO algorithm provides higher quality solutions and converges more quickly,as shown by the ***,the proposed WF-MFO has been used to the solution of two engineering design issues,with striking *** improved performance of the proposed WF-MFO algorithm for addressing larger dimensional optimization problems is guaranteed by analyses of numerical data,statistical tests,and convergence performance.
