Non-compliant and compliant balloons for endovascular rescue therapy of cerebral vasospasm after spontaneous subarachnoid haemorrhage: experiences of a single- centre institution with radiological follow- up of the treated vessel segments

Background For endovascular rescue therapy(ERT)of cerebral vasospasm(CVS)due to spontaneous subarachnoid haemorrhage(sSAH),non-compliant(NCB)and compliant(CB)balloons are used with both balloon types bearing the risk of vessel injury due to specific mechanical *** severe delayed arterial narrowing after transluminal balloon angioplasty(TBA)for CVS has sporadically been described,valid data concerning incidence and relevance are *** aim was to analyse the radiological follow-up(RFU)of differently TBA-treated arteries(CB or NCB).Methods Twelve patients with utilisation of either NCB or CB for CVS were retrospectively analysed for clinical characteristics,ERT,functional outcome after 3 months and *** with the initial angiogram,we classified delayed arterial narrowing as mild,moderate and severe(60% calibre reduction).Results Twenty-three arteries were treated with CB,seven with *** median first RFU was 11 months after TBA with CB and 10 after *** was performed with catheter angiography in 18 arteries(78%)treated with CB and in five(71%)after NCB;magnetic resonance angiography was acquired in five vessels(22%)treated with CB and in two(29%)after *** arterial narrowing was detected in three arteries(13%)after CB and in one(14%)after *** or severe findings were neither detected after use of CB nor *** We found no relevant delayed arterial narrowing after TBA for CVS after *** previous assumptions that CB provides for more dilatation in segments adjacent to CVS,we observed no disadvantages concerning long-term adverse *** data support TBA as a low-risk treatment option.

Tremendous progress has been made in the past decade regarding our understanding of the gut microbiome’s role in human ***,however,a comprehensive and focused review marrying the two distinct fields of gut microbiome and material research is *** bridge the gap,the current paper discusses critical aspects of the rapidly emerging research topic of“material engineering in the gut microbiome and human health.”By engaging scientists with diverse backgrounds in biomaterials,gut-microbiome axis,neuroscience,synthetic biology,tissue engineering,and biosensing in a dialogue,our goal is to accelerate the development of research tools for gut microbiome research and the development of therapeutics that target the gut *** this purpose,state-of-the-art knowledge is presented here on biomaterial technologies that facilitate the study,analysis,and manipulation of the gut microbiome,including intestinal organoids,gut-on-chip models,hydrogels for spatial mapping of gut microbiome compositions,microbiome biosensors,and oral bacteria delivery *** addition,a discussion is provided regarding the microbiome-gut-brain axis and the critical roles that biomaterials can play to investigate and regulate the ***,perspectives are provided regarding future directions on how to develop and use novel biomaterials in gut microbiome research,as well as essential regulatory rules in clinical *** this way,we hope to inspire research into future biomaterial technologies to advance gut microbiome research and gut microbiome-based theragnostics.

Importance of Caucasian Honeybee and Its Characteristics as a Gene Resource

Anatolia, also named as Asia Minor, is known as one of the gene centers for a number of the life forms in the world. Caucasian honeybee is one of the important gene resources in Anatolia and mountain type is the most significant variant. This honeybee race is black colored and similar to the Carniola bees regarding shape, size and hair cover. Body is moderate structured, slim and long as abdomen is thin. Chitin is dark. Hair cover is black and short （0.335 ± 0.031 ram）. Hair color of worker bees is livid grey as chest hair color of drones is black. All abdominal rings are black colored. It has the longest tongue （7.046 ±0.189 mm） among the all honeybee races. Caucasian bees form strong colonies but their colonial development is slow. They swarm only very little and are good tempered. They are good pollinators for alfalfa, clover and similar plants with deep tube flowers and can work under unfavourable conditions. It is known that homeland of Caucasian bee （A. mellifera caucasica） is upper valleys of mid-Caueasia （Georgia, Azerbaijan and Northern Caucasus）. Its distribution area is extended to Kars, Ardahan and Artvin provinces in North-Eastern Anatolia of Turkey. The area including Posof district of Ardahan province and its all villages and 6 villages of Camili basin in Borka district of Artvin province is housing different eeotypes of this race. So, this area was isolated for gene conservation of Caucasian bee by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in 2008. In-situ conservation studies for Caucasian bee （A. mellifera caucasica Gorbachev） have been continuing under the Indigenous Gene Resources Conservation Scheme with a total of 6,960 colonies under on-farm conditions.

Hydroelastic Behaviour and Analysis of Marine Structures

What Preteen Girls Learn About Gender Roles From Celebrities

A face-to-face qualitative interview study was conducted to examine the perceived gender roles and gender identities among 10 to 12 years old girls in Hong Kong. Sixteen girls aged 10 to 12 were asked to take pictures from the media they consumed that illustrated ＂What girls or women should or should not be; and what girls or women should or should not do＂. Analysis of interviews and images captured found that celebrities and characters in popular media play a significant role in socializing preadolescent girls on gender roles and gender identity formation. Celebrities and media characters that caught the interviewees＇ attention were mainly female adult entertainers and media characters. Girls showed admiration of specific talents and personalities of the celebrities and media characters. They paid much attention to the private lives of the celebrities. They learned from celebrities and media characters that certain behaviors were not acceptable in the social arena.

Thyroid hormone levels during early periods of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke could serve as an indicator of prognosis

BACKGROUND： Predicting the outcome of stroke during the acute phase is difficult. Accurate methods for predicting outcomes could assist clinicians and families to make correct decisions in resource-poor environments. OBJECTIVE： To determine thyroid hormone levels in patients with ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke at the early stage, and to investigate its correlation with stroke prognosis. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING： A comparative, observational study was performed at the Department of Emergency, Tertiary-care University Affiliated Hospital from January 2004 to January 2006. PARTICIPANTS： A total of 113 patients presenting to the Emergency Department within 3 hours of stroke symptom onset were approached for enrollment in the study. The patients were diagnosed by computer tomography examination, and comprised 87 ischemic stroke and 26 hemorrhagic stroke patients. METHODS： Following a thorough history and examination by emergency physicians, venous blood samples were collected from each patient. Thyroid-stimulating hormone （TSH）, free triiodothyronine （free T3）, and free thyroxine （free T4） levels were measured using a chemiluminescence method. The nerve function of patients was evaluated with Glasgow Coma Scale （GCS） score, and the patients were accordingly assigned to two subgroups-mild stroke （GCS ≥ 9） and severe stroke （GCS ≤ 8）. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： Blood levels of TSH, free T3 and free T4; mortality at 7 days. RESULTS： Mean TSH values in hemorrhagic stroke patients with GCS ≤ 8 were significantly greater than those in ischemic stroke patients with GCS ≤ 8 and GCS ≥ 9 （P 〈 0.05）. Compared with patients who survived, the highest TSH levels were detected in patients that had died within 7 days. Correlation analysis results revealed a significant negative relationship between GCS values and TSH levels in patients with hemorrhagic stroke （r= 0.552, P〈 0.01）, and no correlation was determined between GCS values and TSH levels in patients with ischemic stroke （r = 0.239,

Global kinematics of tectonic plates and subduction zones since the late Paleozoic Era

Detailed global plate motion models that provide a continuous description of plate boundaries through time are an effective tool for exploring processes both at and below the Earth's surface. A new generation of numerical models of mantle dynamics pre-and post-Pangea timeframes requires global kinematic descriptions with full plate reconstructions extending into the Paleozoic(410 Ma). Current plate models that cover Paleozoic times are characterised by large plate speeds and trench migration rates because they assume that lowermost mantle structures are rigid and fixed through time. When used as a surface boundary constraint in geodynamic models, these plate reconstructions do not accurately reproduce the present-day structure of the lowermost mantle. Building upon previous work, we present a global plate motion model with continuously closing plate boundaries ranging from the early Devonian at 410 Ma to present *** analyse the model in terms of surface kinematics and predicted lower mantle structure. The magnitude of global plate speeds has been greatly reduced in our reconstruction by modifying the evolution of the synthetic Panthalassa oceanic plates, implementing a Paleozoic reference frame independent of any geodynamic assumptions, and implementing revised models for the Paleozoic evolution of North and South China and the closure of the Rheic Ocean. Paleozoic(410-250 Ma) RMS plate speeds are on average ～8 cm/yr, which is comparable to Mesozoic-Cenozoic rates of ～6 cm/yr on *** global median values of trench migration trend from higher speeds(～2.5 cm/yr) in the late Devonian to rates closer to 0 cm/yr at the end of the Permian(～250 Ma), and during the Mesozoic-Cenozoic(250-0 Ma) generally cluster tightly around ～1.1 cm/yr. Plate motions are best constrained over the past 130 Myr and calculations of global trench convergence rates over this period indicate median rates range between 3.2 cm/yr and 12.4 cm/yr with a present day median rate estimat

Quantifying relations between altered hydrology and fish community responses for streams in Minnesota
