Risk of predation: a critical force driving habitat quality perception and foraging behavior of granivorous birds in a Nigerian forest reserve

Background:Understanding the factors that influence the foraging behavior and perception of habitat quality by animals has long been the focus in ecology. Due to the direct effect resource acquisition has on an individual's fitness and species' survival, predation risk is considered widely to be a major driver of foraging decision. The objectives of this study were to investigate how predation risk is perceived by granivorous bird species with respect to different habitat and microhabitat types, time of day and food types in Amurum Forest Reserve, Nigeria, with a view to direct future conservation planning. Methods: For 3 months, we conducted field experiments to measure giving-up densities (GUD, the amount of food left behind in artificial patches after birds cease to forage in it) and how it differs with habitat types, microhabitats, times of day, and food types. General linear mixed-effect models (GLMMs) were fitted to investigate the differences in GUD with respect to the aforementioned variables. Model selection was done based on the Akaike's Information Criterion (AIC). Results: There was no significant difference in GUDs across habitats. However, there was a significant difference in GUDs between microhabitats. Higher food remnants were recorded in the open than in cover microhabitats, as birds exploited food patches in the cover more. Time of day influenced foraging behavior in the birds. They foraged more in the morning than afternoon across all three habitats except for the gallery forest where birds foraged less in the morning. Higher GUDs were recorded in open than cover microhabitats both in the morning and the afternoon. Birds had a preference for rice, millet, and groundnut respectively. Conclusion:The differences in GUDs were very indicative of differences in foraging behavior and perception of resource availability in response to perceived predation risk. Heat Transfer Analysis for Dropwise-Filmwise Hybrid Surface of Steam on Vertical Plate

A model is proposed to predict and evaluate the heat transfer characteristics of dropwise-filmwise hybrid *** is approached by modifying the original drop-size distribution,which is defined for fully dropwise condensation(DWC)and making it applicable for dropwise-filmwise condensation(DFC).The modification is achieved by simulation work to determine two parameters:the area fraction occupied by large drops f and the ratio of the maximum radius of newly formed drops to that of larger drops γ.Simulation results show a good agreement with the literature for fully DWC and provide a correlation for each parameter with respect to DWC region width in the DFC hybrid *** present model evaluates the heat transfer performance of DFC by utilizing these correlations.A comparison is made between the proposed model with experimental work from the literature and results show a good *** changing filmwise condensation(FWC)region width significantly affects the overall heat transfer performance,utilizing smaller width to that of DWC region has the advantage over fully ***,surface renewal within the hydrophobic region is controlled by adjusting the DWC region *** the ratio of drop maximum diameter to DWC region width is unity,surface renewal is achieved by drops merging to adjacent FWC regions *** the ratio is less than unity,surface renewal is achieved by sweeping of departing drops within the hydrophobic region and by *** each case,an optimum DWC region width which corresponds to the maximum DFC heat flux is defined.

Role of alternate and fixed partial root-zone drying on water use efficiency and growth of maize(Zea mays L.)in gypsiferous soils

Alternate partial root-zone drying(APRD)is a water-saving method but can regulate crop physiological responses.A pot experiment has been conducted to study the efficiency of partial and fixed root-zone drying on the growth and production of maize(Zea mays L)in addition to the water use efficiency in soils with different gypsum *** experimental treatments include three irrigation treatments,*** Irrigation(CI),Alternate Partial Root-zone Drying(APRD)and Fixed Partial Root-zone Drying(FPRD),and three soils with different gypsum content"(60.0[G1],153.7[G2],and 314.2[G3]g kg^(-1))".The vegetative growth,root dry mass and physiological indices(leaf relative water content,carotenoid concentration,proline)have been studied during three stages of maize plant growth(jointing,tasselling,and maturing).The Results showed that compared to CI,APRD and FPRD increased water use efficiency by 38.93 and 14.94%based on dry seed *** addition,compared to CI,APRD increased maize seed yield by 4.62-20.71%,while FPRD decreased yield by 19.24-5.28%for the gypsiferous soils G2 and G3,*** has a slight effect on leaf water potential,leaf relative water content,carotenoid and proline activities from jointing to maturing stages at the three gypsiferous *** suggest that APRD could make maize plants use water even more productively with better adaptation to water shortages in the gypsiferous soils.

The advances in technology increase the number of internet systems *** a result,cybersecurity issues have become more *** threats are one of the main problems in the area of ***,detecting cybersecurity threats is not a trivial task and thus is the center of focus for many researchers due to its *** study aims to analyze Twitter data to detect cyber threats using a multiclass classification *** data is passed through different tasks to prepare it for the *** Frequency and Inverse Document Frequency(TFIDF)features are extracted to vectorize the cleaned data and several machine learning algorithms are used to classify the Twitter posts into multiple classes of cyber *** results are evaluated using different metrics including precision,recall,F-score,and *** work contributes to the cyber security research *** experiments revealed the promised results of the analysis using the Random Forest(RF)algorithm with(F-score=81%).This result outperformed the existing studies in the field of cyber threat detection and showed the importance of detecting cyber threats in social media *** is a need for more investigation in the field of multiclass classification to achieve more accurate *** the future,this study suggests applying different data representations for the feature extraction other than TF-IDF such as Word2Vec,and adding a new phase for feature selection to select the optimum features subset to achieve higher accuracy of the detection process.

Hybrid Algorithm-Driven Smart Logistics Optimization in IoT-Based Cyber-Physical Systems

Effectively managing complex logistics data is essential for development sustainability and growth,especially in optimizing distribution *** article addresses the limitations of current logistics path optimization methods,such as inefficiencies and high operational *** overcome these drawbacks,we introduce the Hybrid Firefly-Spotted Hyena Optimization(HFSHO)algorithm,a novel approach that combines the rapid exploration and global search abilities of the Firefly Algorithm(FO)with the localized search and region-exploitation skills of the Spotted Hyena Optimization Algorithm(SHO).HFSHO aims to improve logistics path optimization and reduce operational *** algorithm’s effectiveness is systematically assessed through rigorous comparative analyses with established algorithms like the Ant Colony Algorithm(ACO),Cuckoo Search Algorithm(CSA)and Jaya Algo-rithm(JA).The evaluation also employs benchmarking methodologies using standardized function sets covering diverse objective functions,including Schwefel’s,Rastrigin,Ackley,Sphere and the ZDT and DTLZ Function *** outperforms these algorithms,achieving a minimum path distance of 546 units,highlighting its prowess in logistics path *** comprehensive evaluation authenticates HFSHO’s exceptional performance across various logistic optimization *** findings emphasize the critical significance of selecting an appropriate algorithm for logistics path navigation,with HFSHO emerging as an efficient *** the synergistic use of FO and SHO,HFSHO achieves a 15%improvement in convergence,heightened operational efficiency and substantial cost reductions in logistics *** presents a promising solution for optimizing logistics paths,offering logistics planners and decision-makers valuable insights and contributing substantively to sustainable sectoral growth.

Reaction kinetic model for a recent co-produced water treatment technology

With the increasing demand for fossil based energy and implementation of progressively strict environmental pollution control standards, treatment of a large amount of co-produced waters （CPWs） from fossil based energy production has become increasingly important. Removal of bicarbonate with H2SO4 has been recently studied as a simple and cost-effective method to decrease the alkalinity of CPWs. The present work investigates the kinetics of the reaction between H2SO4 and NaHCO3, which could provide the base for scaling-up the CPW treatment technology. Based on the measured quantity change of the CO2 gas generated from the reaction between H2SO4 and NaHCO3 with time under specified initial reaction conditions, the reaction orders with respect to H2SO4 and NaHCO3 were determined. Experiments were also conducted within the temperature of 15-30℃ to find various global rate coefficients of the reaction to calculate the activation energy and the pre-exponential factor of the empirical Arrhenius form of the bicarbonate removal reaction, which are 197.7 kJ/mol and 3.13 × 1034 （mol-3.7 ×L3.7 ×sec^-1 ）, respectively.

Grey Wolf-Based Method for an Implicit Authentication of Smartphone Users

Smartphones have now become an integral part of our everyday *** authentication on smartphones is often accomplished by mechanisms(like face unlock,pattern,or pin password)that authenticate the user’s *** technologies are simple,inexpensive,and fast for repeated ***,these technologies are still subject to assaults like smudge assaults and shoulder ***’touch behavior while using their cell phones might be used to authenticate them,which would solve the *** performance of the authentication process may be influenced by the attributes chosen(from these behaviors).The purpose of this study is to present an effective authentication technique that implicitly offers a better authentication method for smartphone usage while avoiding the cost of a particular device and considering the constrained capabilities of *** began by concentrating on feature selection methods utilizing the grey wolf optimization *** random forest classifier is used to evaluate these *** testing findings demonstrated that the grey wolf-based methodology works as a better optimum feature selection for building an implicit authentication mechanism for the smartphone environment when using a public *** achieved a 97.89%accuracy rate while utilizing just 16 of the 53 characteristics like utilizing minimum mobile resources mainly;processing power of the device and memory to validate ***,the findings revealed that our approach has a lower equal error rate(EER)of 0.5104,a false acceptance rate(FAR)of 1.00,and a false rejection rate(FRR)of 0.0209 compared to the methods discussed in the *** promising results will be used to create a mobile application that enables implicit validation of authorized users yet avoids current identification concerns and requires fewer mobile resources.

Prevention of wing rock motion for lightly damped aircraft in lateral-directional dynamics

Based on the Ricatti technique, the methodology for preventing the limit cycle accomplished by adding a control function to the original equation of wing rock motion is presented in this paper. To analyze the state variables of the system, the complete set of nonlinear equations of motion including an effective linear control function was solved for A-4D and Mig-21 Aircraft. The roll angle responding to the linear control function for both models was estimated when the systems were tested under different damping ratios. The numerical re- suits show that a linear control function including both the roll attitude and the roll rate is sufficient to suppress the wing rock motion with an acceptable error in desired time. A good agreement between the numerical results and the published work is obtained for the limit cycle oscillation existence at different damping ratios.
