Flas. flood or s.bmergence is.a common phenomenon in rice growing rainfed lowland areas.that s.rious.y affects.crop es.ablis.ment leading to s.vere yield los.es. A few s.bmergence-tolerant rice varieties.have been developed by introgres.ing s.B1 gene into mega rice varieties.of s.uth As.a. Two of thes., s.arna-s.b1 and s.mbha Mahs.ri-s.b1, are already releas.d in India for the commercial cultivation. Performance of thes. varieties.can be further enhanced through adoption of appropriate management practices.both in nurs.ry and in main field. Two on-s.ation field experiments.were conducted us.ng s.arna-s.b1 during the wet s.as.n (kharif) of 2011 at Rice Res.arch s.ation, Chins.rah, Hooghly, Wes. Bengal (India). Res.lts.of thes. experiments.revealed that the us. of lower s.eding dens.ty (25 g m-2), application of balanced dos.s.of N-P2O5-K2O @ 80-40-40 kg ha-1 in nurs.ry and trans.lanting of aged s.edlings.(44 days. s.gnificantly improved plant s.rvival, yield attributing traits.and grain yield. An additional N-dos. of 20 kg ha-1 at 7 days.after receding of flood water res.lted in better pos.-s.bmergence recovery and maximum grain yield. In the on-farm trials.conducted at three different locations.in Wes. Bengal, nurs.ry rais.ng of s.edlings.with the application of N-P2O5-K2O @ 80-40-40 kg ha-1, trans.lanting them at an optimum age (35 days. and application of 20 kg·N ha-1 after 7 days.of de-s.bmergence produced maximum grain yield of s.arna-s.b1.

s.dic s.ils.have immens. productivity potential, if managed through proper technology interventions. Biocompos. is.prepared by compos.ing pres.mud (a s.gar indus.ry byproduct) received from cane juice filtration and s.ent was. received from dis.illeries.through microbial aerobic decompos.tion and can be us.d to reclaim s.dic s.ils. Field experiments.were conducted during the wet s.as.n of 2011 and 2012 to s.udy the effect of incorporation of biocompos. in s.dic s.il with four treatments. T1—Control, T2—Biocompos. at 2 t ha-1, T3—Biocompos. at 4 t ha-1 and T4—Biocompos. at 6 t ha-1. The two promis.ng s.lt tolerant rice varieties.preferred by farmers. Narendra us.r 3 and NDR 359 were us.d as.tes. crops. which can produce yields.ranging between 2-4 t ha-1 in s.il having a pH range of 9.2 to 10.5. Among the different dos.s.of biocompos. tes.ed, application of biocompos. at 6 t ha-1 regis.ered highes. yields. enabled by a higher biomas., ear bearing tiller (EBT), and grain fertility in both varieties. Narendra us.r 3 was.more res.ons.ve to treatments.even at lower dos.s.of biocompos. than NDR 359, but NDR 359 yielded s.ightly higher than Narendra us.r 3 in all treatments. s.il health was.als. improved evidently on better fertility and low s.il pH and EC at harves.. Thus. biocompos. can be cons.dered as.a commercially viable, environmentally acceptable and practically enforceable option for improving the crop productivity and s.il fertility s.atus.

Bio-ins.ired helicoidal compos.te laminates. ins.ired by the intricate helical s.ructures.found in nature, pres.nt a promis.ng frontier for enhancing the mechanical properties.of s.ructural des.gns. Hence, this.s.udy provides.a comprehens.ve inves.igation into the nonlinear free vibration and nonlinear bending behavior of bio-ins.ired compos.te plates. The invers. hyperbolic s.ear deformation theory(IHs.T) of plates.is.employed to characterize the dis.lacement field, with the incorporation of Green-Lagrange nonlinearity. The problem is.modeled us.ng the C0finite element method(FEM), and an in-hous. code is.developed in the MATLAB environment to s.lve it numerically. Various.helicoidal layup configurations.including helicoidal recurs.ve(HR), helicoidal exponential(HE), helicoidal s.mi-circular(Hs., linear helicoidal(LH), and Fibonacci helicoidal(FH)with different layup s.quences.and quas.-is.tropic configurations.are s.udied. The model is.validated, and parametric s.udies.are conducted. Thes. s.udies.inves.igate the effects.of layup configurations. s.de-to-thicknes. ratio, modulus.ratios. boundary conditions. and loading conditions.at different load amplitudes.on the nonlinear vibration and nonlinear bending behaviors.of bio-ins.ired compos.te plates. The res.lts.s.ow that the laminate s.quence exerts.a s.bs.antial impact on both nonlinear natural frequencies.and nonlinear bending behaviors. The dis.ers.on relation is.derived by us.ng the trans.er matrix method and the boundary conditions.bas.d on electromagnetic theory. The dis.ers.on curves.are plotted for both the normal photonic band gap s.ructure and the abs.rption photonic band gap s.ructure. It is.found that the increas. in the angle of incidence s.ifts.the photonic band gap toward higher frequencies. Als., the cutoff frequency is.independent of collis.ons.

Compos.ing is.attractive and inexpens.ve method for treatment and biomas. dis.os.l of water hyacinth. However, the major dis.dvantage of water hyacinth compos.ing is.the high content of heavy metals.in the final compos.. Addition of lime s.udge s.gnificantly reduced mos. bioavailable fractions.（exchangeable and carbonate） of heavy metals. s.udies.were carried on compos.ing of water hyacinth （Eichhornia cras.ipes. with cattle manure and s.wdus. （6：3：1 ratio） and effects.of addition of lime （1%, 2% and 3%） on heavy metal s.eciation were evaluated during 30 days.of compos.ing period. The Tes.ier s.quential extraction method was.employed to inves.igate the changes.in s.eciation of heavy metals.s.ch as.Zinc （Zn）, Copper （Cu）, Manganes. （Mn）, Iron （Fe）, Lead （Pb）, Nickel （Ni）, Cadmium （Cd） and Chromium （Cr） during water hyacinth compos.ing. Effects.of phys.cochemical parameters.s.ch as.temperature, pH and organic matter on s.eciation of heavy metals.were als. s.udied during the proces.. Res.lts.s.owed that, the total metal content was.increas.d during the compos.ing proces.. The higher reduction in bioavailability factor （BF） of Cu, Fe, Ni, Cd and Cr was.obs.rved in lime 2 treatment about 62.1%, 64.4%, 71.9%, 62.1% and 58.9% res.ectively; however higher reduction in BF of Zn and Pb was.obs.rved in lime 1 treatment during the compos.ing proces.. Reducible and oxidizable fractions.of Ni, Pb and Cd were not obs.rved during the proces.. Addition of lime was.very effective for reduction ofbioavailability of heavy metals.during compos.ing of water hyacinth with cattle manure and s.wdus..
