AIM： To evaluate the prevalence of autoantibodies in chronic hepatitis C virus （HCV）-infected children focusing on thyroid ***： We investigated the prevalence of autoantibodies in 123 chronic HCV-infected children before, during and after monotherapy with interferon-alpha （IFN-α） or combined treatment with interferon-α or peginterferon-α and ribavirin. Besides antibodies against smooth muscle （SMA）, nuclei （ANA）, and liver/kidney microsomes （1KM）, the incidence of antithyroid peroxidase antibodies as well as thyroid function parameters （TSH, FT3 and FT4） were ***： We found that 8% of children had autoantibodies before treatment. During treatment, 18% of children were found positive for at least one autoantibody; 15.5% of children developed pathologic thyroid values during IFN-α treatment compared to only one child before therapy. Six children had to be substituted while developing laboratory signs of ***： Our data indicate a strong correlation between interferon-α treatment and autoimmune phenomena, notably the emergence of thyroid antibodies. The fact that some children required hormone replacement underlines the need of close monitoring in particularly those who respond to therapy and have to be treated for more than 6 mo.

Background： During processing in a desolventizer/toaster（DT）, rapeseed meal（RSM） is heated to evaporate the hexane and to reduce the level of heat-labile anti-nutritional factors such as glucosinolates（GSL）. However, excessive heat treatment may reduce amino acid（AA） content in addition to lower AA digestibility and availability in RSM. The objective of the present study was to produce from one batch of a 00-rapeseed variety（17 μmol GSL/g dry matter（DM）, seed grade quality） five differently processed RSM under standardized and defined conditions in a pilot plant,and to determine the impact of these different treatments on protein solubility and chemical composition, in particular with regard to contents of AA including reactive Lys（rL ys） and levels of total and individual ***： Four RSM were exposed to wet toasting conditions（WetT C） with increasing residence time in the DT of 48,64, 76, and 93 min. A blend of these four RSM was further processed, starting with saturated steam processing（〈 100 °C）and followed by exposure to dry toasting conditions（DryT C） to further reduce the GSL content in this ***： The contents of neutral detergent fiber and neutral detergent fiber bound crude protein（CP） increased linearly（P 〈 0.05）, as residence time of RSM in the DT increased from 48 to 93 min, whereas contents of total and most individual GSL and those of Lys, rL ys, Cys, and the calculated ratio of Lys：CP and r Lys：CP decreased linearly（P ≤ 0.05）.The combination of wet heating and DryT C resulted in the lowest GSL content compared to RSM produced under WetT C, but was associated with lowest protein ***： It can be concluded that by increasing residence time in the DT or using alternative processing conditions such as wet heating combined with DryT C, contents of total and individual GSL in RSM can be substantially *** in vivo studies are warranted to elucidate if and to which extent the observed differences in protein quality and

This paper aims to contribute to the development of spatial criteria for adaptive capacity,which is identified as one important factor for the transition towards more circular housing *** paper focuses on the kitchen,as an important function of the home which is connected to large resource flows and is exposed to frequent renovations and *** paper identifies spatial characteristics of the kitchen and evaluates their potential to accommodate circular solutions focusing on adaptive *** a first step,previous literature on the spatial characteristics of kitchens and indicators that support adaptability is *** are then used to develop an analytical framework to assess the adaptive capacity and circularity potential of 3624 kitchens in contemporary Swedish apartments.A qualitative approach in combination with quantitative methods is employed to analyse the selected *** main contributions of this paper include its spatial analytical framework,its descriptive presentation of contemporary kitchen and apartment designs,and its adaptive capacity assessment of the studied *** results point out that although the overcapacity of the floor area of kitchens and apartments can have significance for adaptability,it is not the only determinative spatial *** windows’location and distribution,the number of door openings and traffic zones,the shafts’location and accessibility from multiple rooms,the room typology and the kitchen typology can improve the adaptive capacity and circularity potential of kitchens and *** findings show that in contemporary floorplans advantageous design solutions connected to the identified spatial characteristics are not applied in a systematic *** research is necessary to define the exact measures of the individual spatial characteristics and their combined application in multiresidential floorplan design.

AIM:To investigate possible differences in dendritic cells(DC)within intestinal tissue of mice before and after induction of colitis. METHODS:Mucosal DC derived from intestinal tissue,as well as from mesenteric lymph nodes and spleen,were analyzed by fluorescence activated cell sorting(FACS) *** of these cells were analyzed for secretion of different pro-and anti-inflammatory cytokines. Immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence were performed on cryosections of mucosal tissue derived from animals with colitis as well as from healthy mice. RESULTS:It was shown that DC derived from healthy intestinal lamina propria(LP)represented an immature phenotype as characterized by low-level expression of costimulatory *** contrast to DC from spleen and mesenteric lymph nodes(MLN)that secreted proinflammatory cytokines,LP-DC produced high levels of the anti-inflammatory cytokine *** induction of mu-rine colitis in a CD4 + CD62L + transfer model or in chronic Dextran sulfate sodium-colitis,a marked increase of activated CD80 + DC could be observed within the inflamed colonic ***,in contrast to splenic DC,a significant population of DC within MLN and colonic LP expressed the mucosal integrin CD103 which was lost during colitis. CONCLUSION:The constitutive secretion of antiinflammatory cytokines by immature DC within the intestinal LP might regulate the homeostatic balance between mucosal immunity and ***103 + DC could mediate this important function.

The Qaidam Basin （NW China） at the northern margin of the Tibetan Plateau is one of the driest places on Earth with mean annual precipitation not exceeding 25 mm in the western central part. Flat salt plains and wind-shaped hills characterise the bare ground over thousands of square kilometres. In contrast to presentday conditions, remnants of ancient shorelines in high positions identified by Chen and Bowler （1986） and HiJvermann and Siissenberger （1986） about 20 years ago herald of a former large lake but were not investigated further till now. Here we present the results of microfossil analysis and optically stimulated luminescence （OSL） as well as uranium-series （TIMS） dating of sediments from a thick sequence of predominantly lake deposits in the eastern central Qaidam Basin. Based on abundant ostracod （micro-crustacean） shells from this sequence, we infer that a large lake of several metres depth at least maintained primarily fresh to oligohaline conditions in the late Middle Pleistocene.

The larval stages of most marine fishes spend days to weeks in the pelagic environment,where they must find food and avoid predators in order to *** fish only spend part of their life history in the pelagic environment before returning to their adult habitat,for example,a coral *** sensory systems of larval fish develop rapidly during the first few days of their lives,and here we concentrate on the various sensory cues the fish have available to them for survival in the pelagic *** focus on the larvae of reef fishes because most is known about *** also review the major threats caused by human activities that have been identified to have worldwide impact and evaluate how these threats may impact larval-fish survival and orientation *** human activities negatively affect larval-fish sensory systems or the cues the fish need to ***,this could lead to decreased numbers of larvae surviving to settlement,and,therefore,to decreased abundance of adult *** we focus on species wherein the larvae and adults occupy different habitats(pelagic and demersal,respectively),it is important to acknowledge that the potential anthropogenic effects we identify may also apply to larvae of species like tuna and herring,where both larvae and adults are pelagic.

In Patagonia, Argentina, at the northern border of the Patagonian Cenozoic mafic plateau lava fields, newly discovered diatremes stand about I00 m above the sur- rounding plain. These diatremes document phreato- magmatic episodes associated with the formation of the volcanic fields.
