Improved source assessment of Si,Al and related mineral components to Pm_(10) based on a daily sampling procedure

Samples obtained from an industrialized valley in the East Alpine region were collected daily for a half year and analyzed using X-ray fluorescence to examine the elements Si, Al, Fe, Ca, mg, Na, K, Zn, P, S and Cl. Some factors affecting the changes of these elements were considered, including time, elemental correlations, weekday, weekend and seasonal changes. Diagnostic analysis provided an insight into a decoupling behavior that occursin siliceous and carbonates minerals. A decrease in Si and Al and an increase in carbonates, Na, K, Zn and P were observed during the cold season. However, a consistently high correlation of Si and Al was observed in all seasons. It was established that such high levels originated from street surface abrasion. The increase in variability and absolute levels of carbonates during the cold season was demonstrated by adding carbonates to the street surface as gritting material to increase the grip on snowy surfaces. A marked increase in Na and Cl was observed in winter which may have been caused by thaw salt that is widely used in winter in Austria. This was associated with a significant increase in K, Zn, and P in the cold season that was the result of domestic space heating with wood. Pm10 levels in December were 12 μ/m^3 and were higher than levels detected in July. It was established that such high levels originated from mineral oxides, wood smoke, and inorganic ionic material（s）.

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.

Ectomycorrhizal diversity at five different tree species in forests of the Taunus mountains in Central Germany

Ectomycorrhizal fungi were investigated on five different forest tree species growing in pure stands on the south slope of the Taunus mountains, which are situated at the northern end of the Rhine rift valley in Central Germany. mycorrhizal fungi accompanying the genus Xerocomus were identified and their frequencies counted. Using ITS markers, 22 different fungal species were identified down to species level and 6 down to genus level. On European beech (Fagus sylvatica) 16 fungal species and 4 genera were identified and on Sessile oak (Quercus petraea) 16 ectomycorrhizal species and 2 genera were determined. On both deciduous trees we observed exclusively: Cortinarius subsertipes, Genea hispidula, Lactarius quietus, Tylopilus felleus and a melanogaster genus. On Norway spruce (Picea abies) we identified 13 different mycorrhizal species and 3 different genera, on Silver fir (Abies alba) 12 species and 3 genera, and in association with European larch (Larix decidua) 11 species and 3 genera. On these conifers Cortinarius anomalus, Lactarius necator and a Piloderma genus occurred exclusively. Comparisons with published data of ectomycorrhizal diversity on the same five tree species, growing in different areas of Germany and Europe, led to the conclusion that there is relative site specificity for ectomycorrhizal communities. Upper soil compartments of the stands investigated in the Taunus mountainssuffer from soil acidification (pH-H20 ~3.7 to ~4.8). However, a clear correlation between upper soil pH-values and fungal diversity was not observed. On the other hand, nitrate concentrations in upper soil compartments (~26 to ~91 kgNO3-/ha) were higher in older stands as compared to younger ones. Higher nitrate concentrations in upper soils correlated with lower numbers of mycorrhizal individuals.

This review presents a conceptual framework and supporting evidence that links impaired motor control after sport-related concussion(SRC)to increased risk for musculoskeletal *** studies have found that athletes who are post-SRC have higher risk for musculoskeletal injury compared to their counterparts.A small body of research suggests that impairments in motor control are associated with musculoskeletal injury *** control involves the perception and processing of sensory information and subsequent coordination of motor output within the central nervous system to perform a motor *** control is inclusive of motor planning and motor *** sensory information is not accurately perceived or there is interference with sensory information processing and cognition,motor function will be altered,and an athlete may become vulnerable to injury during sport *** with SRC show neuroanatomic and neurophysiological changes relevant to motor control even after meeting return to sport criteria,including a normal neurological examination,resolution of symptoms,and return to baseline function on traditional concussion *** conjunction,altered motor function is demonstrated after SRC in muscle activation and force production,movement patterns,balance/postural stability,and motor task performance,especially performance of a motor task paired with a cognitive task(i.e.,dual-task condition).The clinical implications of this conceptual framework include a need to intentionally address motor control impairments after SRC to mitigate musculoskeletal injury risk and to monitor motor control as the athlete progresses through the return to sport continuum.

Dear Editor, It has been known since the work of Francis Darwin that, in response to a reduction in atmospheric relative humidity （rh）, stomatal aperture decreases. Screening for Arabidopsis mutants compromised in stomatal responses to reduced rh resulted in the identification of two genes, OST1 and ABA2, that are involved in stomatal response to low rh conditions. Interestingly both encode proteins previously known to be involved in ABA signaling （Xie et al., 2006, and references therein）. These findings strongly suggested that, at least in part, the stomatal response to low rh is mediated by ABA and the intracellular ABA signaling pathway. Our most recent data show that low rh-induced stomatal closure can pro- ceed by guard cell autonomous ABA synthesis （bauer et al., 2013）,

Damage visualization and deformation measurement in glass laminates during projectile penetration

Transparent armor consists of glass-polymer laminates in most *** formation and propagation of damage in the different glass layers has a strong influence on the ballistic resistance of such *** order to clarify(he course of events during projectile penetration,an experimental technique was developed,which allows visualizing the onset and propagation of damage in each single layer of the laminate.A telecentric objective lens was used together with a microsecond video camera that allows recording 100 frames at a maximum rate of 1 mHz in a backlit photography *** this technique,the damage evolution could be visualized in glass laminates consisting of four glass layers with lateral dimensions 500 mm x 500 *** evolution was recorded during penetration of 7.62 mm AP projectiles with tungsten carbide core and a total mass of 1 1.1 g in the impact velocity range from 800 to 880 m/*** order to measure the deformation of single glass plates within the laminates,a piece of reflecting tape was attached to the corresponding glass plate,and photonic Doppler velocimetry(PDV) was *** the photonic Doppler *** infrared laser is used to illuminate an object to be measured and the Doppler-shifted light is superimposed to a reference light beam at the *** simultaneous visualization and PDV measurement of the glass deformation allow determining the deformation at the time of the onset of *** analysis of the experimental data was supported by numerical simulations,using the AUTODYN commercial hydro-code.

Saccharification versus simultaneous saccharification and fermentation of kraft pulp

Enzymes are a significant cost in cellulosic ethanol production,minimizing their use would be desirable as long as ethanol yields and productivities are not *** aim was to evaluate the effects of enzyme dosage on conversion of cellulose to *** pulp,an intermediate in paper production,was used to represent a fractionated cellulose *** were conducted in a 5 L BioFlow bioreactor(2-3 L working volume)with agitation rate varied(80-900 r/m)to provide acceptable *** on survey of the literature,an average dosage for cellulase(34 FPU/g glucan)andβ-glucosidase(135 CBU/g glucan)was calculated,and these were set as the 100%*** of 1%,7%,13%,33%,67%,100%,133%were tested,using Novozyme Celluclast 1.5 L(cellulase)and Novozyme 188(β-glucosidase)in a 4.8%(dry mass)kraft pulp *** recommended dosages are at the low end of this spectrum,at 12 g/g glucan for Celluclast 1.5 L(35%dosage)and 1.2 g/g glucan for Novozyme 188(0.9%dosage).Saccharification trials(50oC)showed a typical dosage response,with the 133%dosage achieving the highest sugar concentration(~59 g/L glucose)and saccharification rate(2.45 g/L/h),with a specific rate of 2.2×10-4 g glucose/unit enzyme/*** the 13%enzyme dosage resulted in the highest specific saccharification rate(2.9×10-4 g glucose/unit enzyme/h).Simultaneous saccharification and fermentation(SSF)trials(35oC)were conducted using Saccharomyces cerevisiae or Candida molischiana to compare enzyme dosages of 33%,67%,100%,and 133%.Ethanol titers and productivities were similar for trials with 67%or more of the literature average enzyme dosage,however were lower at the 33%enzyme *** enzyme dosage can be substantially reduced from levels typically cited in the literature,but cannot be reduced to levels recommended by the manufacturer,without reduction in ethanol yield and productivity.

The United States （U.S.） is facing a national opioid epidemic, and medical systems are in need of non- pharmacologic strategies that can be employed to decrease the public＇s opioid dependence. Acupuncture has emerged as a powerful, evidence-based, safe, cost-effective, and available treatment modality suitable to meeting this need. Acupuncture has been shown to be effective for the management of numerous types of pain conditions, and mechanisms of action for acupuncture have been described and are understandable from biomedical, physiologic perspectives. Further, acupuncture＇s cost-effectiveness can dramatically decrease health care expenditures, both from the standpoint of treating acute pain and through avoiding addiction to opioids that requires costly care, destroys quality of life, and can lead to fatal overdose. Numerous federal regulatory agencies have advised or mandated that healthcare systems and providers offer non-pharmacologic treatment options for pain. Acupuncture stands out as the most evidence-based, immediately available choice to fulfil these calls. Acupuncture can safely, easily, and cost-effectively be incorporated into hospital settings as diverse as the emergency department, labor and delivery suites, andneonatal intensive care units to treat a variety of commonly seen pain conditions. Acupuncture is already being successfully and meaningfully utilized by the Veterans Administration and various branches of the U.S. military, in some studies demonstrably decreasing the volume of opioids prescribed when included in care.
