While considerable progress has been made in the taxonomic studies of the genus Lycodon in Asia,questions remain to be clarified regarding the taxonomy of certain groups,particularly those containing species in *** only do many regions in China remain overlooked by herpetologists,resulting in the possibility of undiscovered new species,but the surveyed areas also have suspicious records of recognized congeners that require taxonomic *** both morphological and genetic data,we tackle these outstanding issues in the taxonomy of Lycodon in *** particular,we discover two new species of Lycodon:one from the previously neglected hot-dry valley in the northern Hengduan Mountain Region close to Tibet,and another recluse and cryptic species from the *** complex in the downtown park of a major city in southern Sichuan ***,we clarify the distribution of *** in China and resurrect and elevate its junior synonym subspecies,Dinodon septentrionale chapaense,as a full,valid species,and we synonymize the recently described *** to the resurrected *** ***..Lycodon chapaensis *** represents a new national record of reptilian fauna of ***,based on literature review,we also correct some of the erroneous records of *** and *** in China,point out remaining taxonomic issues of the genus for future research,and update the dichotomous key and distribution of the 20 species of Lycodon currently recorded from China.

Small bowel adenocarcinomas are remarkable for their rarity, difficult diagnosis and poor prognosis. Here we report an unusual case of a 33-year-old patient in whom infiltrative adenocarcinoma of the small bowel was diagnosed after a 10-year history of Crohn＇s disease. In most previously reported cases, detection of Crohn＇s disease was subsequent tothat of carcinoma of the small bowel or the patients involved had an even longer history of the disease. Our literature review suggests that the risk of small bowel adenocarcinoma is higher in patients with Crohn＇s disease than in the overall population. We present details on epidemiology as well as clinical and diagnostic aspects of this rare disease entity.

The self-lubricating ceramic coatings that can control friction and wear have attracted researchers’widespread ***,the poor interfacial bonding between lubricants and ceramics and the deterioration of mechanical properties due to a tribological design limit their practical ***,a robust self-lubricating coating was fabricated by an in-situ synthesis of MoS_(2)/C within inherent defects of thermally sprayed yttria-stabilized zirconia(YSZ)*** edge-pinning by noncoherent endows hybrid coatings with excellent interfacial strength,increasing their hardness(HV)and cohesive ***,owing to the formation of a well-covered robust lubricating film at a frictional interface,a coefficient of friction(COF)can be reduced by 79.6%to 0.15,and a specific wear rate(W)drops from 1.36×10^(−3) to 6.27×10^(−7) mm^(3)·N^(−1)·m^(−1).Combining outstanding mechanical properties and tribological performance,the hybrid coating exhibits great application potential in controlling friction and ***,this strategy of introducing the target materials into the inherent defects of the raw materials to improve the relevant properties opens new avenues for the design and preparation of composite materials.

Extremely small PtRu/C nanocatalysts were prepared via a carbonyl route. A thorough in situ reduction X-ray structural characterization of these catalysts was performed. After synthesis and storage under ambient condi- tions, the diffraction patterns of PtRu/C catalysts were seriously modified, indicating the surface oxide formation. In the reduced state, the particle size is around 2 nm. The observed relative fluctuations of lattice constants are 3%, which is far too large to be explained by a compositional fluctuation. Their origin is attributed to strong but isotropic strains and is related to the alloy formation. The annealing experiments show all the catalysts present an exceptional thermal stability when annealed in inert ambient, especially that of the Pt1Ru1/C catalyst. Besides, it is interesting to note that there is no thermal expansion evidence from the patterns.

The degradation of agricultural terraces is considered a major challenge to soil and water conservation in steep-slope *** terracing is a widespread conservation practice,its sustainability is threatened by adverse climatic and man-made *** studies have shown the impact of terrace designs on the formation of runoff pathways,causing degradation processes on terrace platforms(*** erosion)and walls(***,landslides,collapse).This study evaluates a remote sensing versus a field-based approach to monitor hydrological processes responsible for terrace degradation,as tested in a north-Italian *** field-based approach was based on spatially measured Soil Moisture Content(SMC)using a Time Domain Reflectometry(TDR)instrument,which clearly revealed saturation hotspots around two damaged terraces in the study ***,these zones showed a particular cross-sectional SMC profile,with the highest saturation close to the terrace platform *** remote sensing approach was based on aerial imagery acquired by an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV)and photogrammetric reconstruction of the vineyard geomorphology,allowing terrain-based analysis and physical erosion *** this approach,simulations indicated that terrace damages could be partly explained by the formation of preferential runoff pathways caused by the terrace *** parallel methodology allowed a comparison of the merits and limitations of either approach,as done in light of published *** occurrence of two SMC hotspots at terrace edges(and their non-typical cross-sectional profiles)could be better understood from simulated surface flow *** the causal relationship between heterogeneous soil saturation and terrace instability has been previously reported in literature,the novelty of the presented study is the use of topsoil SMC as an indicator of potential damages,favouring the scalability compared to fixed,local and often intrusive terrace sub-sur

Invasive species are characterized by the rapid growth and spread of their populations after establishing a foothold in new habitats, and there are now many examples of such species negatively affecting biodiversity and the economy. It is unclear why some species can become successful invaders, whereas most （even if closely related） remain noninvasive. We previously proposed a hypothesis that parasites associated with invading species can promote their invasive success if they are harmless toward the invaders but harmful to their competitors and/or predators in the newly colonized habitat. Here we discuss whether microsporidia that have recently been discovered in the invasive ladybird Harmonia axyridis contribute to its invasive success. We show that all H. axyridis beetles sourced from diverse collection sites all over the world carry abundant microsporidia. This suggests that both native and invasive H. axyridis populations are associated with these tolerated parasites, which were likely to have existed in native populations before expansion rather than being acquired in newly colonized areas. We describe the pathogenesis of the microsporidia during different developmental stages of H. axyridis and we address the possibility that the predation of its infected eggs and larvae by competing native ladybird species may lead to their infection and ultimately to their decline. Finally, we discuss our initial hypothesis： microsporidia that are tolerated by an invasive vector insect can be active against susceptible native competitors and/or predator species.

Identification of osteopontin as the most consistently over-expressed gene in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma: Detection by oligonucleotide microarray and real-time PCR analysis

AIM: To investigate the molecular pathways involved in human cholangiocarcinogenesis by gene expression profiling. METHODS: Oligonucleotide arrays (Affymetrix U133A) were used to establish a specific gene expression profile of intrahepatic CCC in comparison to corresponding non- malignant liver tissue. To validate the expression values of the most overexpressed genes, RT-PCR experiments were performed. RESULTS: Five hundred and fifty-two statistically differentially expressed genes/ESTs (221 probes significantly up-regulated, 331 probes down-regulated; P 2; ≥ 70%) were identified. Using these data and two-dimensional cluster analysis,a specific gene expression profile was obtained allowing fast and reproducible differentiation of CCC, which was confirmed by supervised neuronal network modelling. The most consistently overexpressed gene (median fold change 33.5, significantly overexpressed in 100%) encoded osteopontin. Furthermore, an association of various genes with the histopathological grading could be demonstrated. CONCLUSION: A highly specific gene expression profile for intrahepatic CCC was identified, allowing for its fast and reproducible discrimination against non- malignant liver tissue and other liver masses. The most overexpressed gene in intrahepatic CCC was the gene encoding osteopontin. These data may lead to a better understanding of human cholangiocarcinogenesis.
