AIM: To compare the results and complications of early pre-cutting technique with standard technique. METHODS: From January 2003 to December 2004, a total of 416 consecutive therapeutic biliary ERCP procedures were performed by one endoscopist (T.A.). Data were retrospectively collected according to procedure indication and results. Of these, 293 procedures (70.4%) were done with standard technique (group A) and 123 procedures (29.6%) with early pre-cutting technique in case of difficult cannulation (group B). The results and complications of ERCP were compared. RESULTS: Success rate of first attempt cannulation was 98.0% in group A and 87.8% in group B. The overall incidence of post-ERCP pancreatitis, hemorrhage, perforation and cholangitis was 0%, 0.2%, 0.5% and 0.5%, respectively. Morbidity rate was not significantly different. No procedure-related mortality was occurred. CONCLUSION: For an experienced hand, the early pre-cutting technique for biliary cannulation is safe and effective as standard technique.

AIM:To study the anesthetic management of patients undergoing small bowel enteroscopy in the World Gastroenterology Organization(WGO) Endoscopy Training Center in ***:Patients who underwent small bowel enteroscopy during the period of March 2005 to March 2011 in Siriraj Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Center were retrospectively *** patients' characteristics,pre-anesthetic problems,anesthetic techniques,anesthetic agents,anesthetic time,type and route of procedure and anesthesia-related complications were ***:One hundred and forty-four patients underwent this procedure during the study *** mean age of the patients was 57.6 ± 17.2 years,andmost were American Society of Anesthesiologists(ASA) class Ⅱ(53.2%).Indications for this procedure were gastrointestinal bleeding(59.7%),chronic diarrhea(14.3%),protein losing enteropathy(2.6%) and others(23.4%).Hematologic disease,hypertension,heart disease and electrolyte imbalance were the most common pre-anesthetic *** anesthesia with endotracheal tube was the anesthetic technique mainly employed(50.6%).The main anesthetic agents administered were fentanyl,propofol and *** mean anesthetic time was 94.0 ± 50.5 *** balloon and oral(antegrade) intubation was the most common type and route of *** anesthesia-related complication rate was relatively *** overall and cardiovascular-related complication rates including hypotension in the older patient group(aged ≥ 60 years old) were significantly higher than those in the younger ***:During anesthetic management for small bowel enteroscopy,special techniques and drugs are not routinely ***,for safety reasons anesthetic personnel need to optimize the patient's condition.

This research proposes an artificial neural network(ANN)-based repair and maintenance(R&M)cost estimation model for agricultural *** proposed ANN model can achieve high estimation accuracy with small data *** the study,the proposed ANN model is implemented to estimate the R&M costs using a sample of locally-made rice combine *** model inputs are geographical regions,harvest area,and curve fitting coefficients related to historical cost data;and the ANN output is the estimated R&M *** feed-forward is adopted as the processing algorithm and Levenberg-Marquardt backpropagation learning as the training *** R&M costs are estimated using the ANN-based model,and results are compared with those of conventional mathematical estimation *** results reveal that the percentage error between the conventional and ANN-based estimation models is below 1%,indicating the proposed ANN model’s high predictive *** proposed ANN-based model is useful for setting the service rates of agricultural machinery,given the significance of R&M cost in *** novelty of this research lies in the use of curve-fitting coefficients in the ANN-based estimation model to improve estimation ***,the proposed ANN model could be further developed into web-based applications using a programming language to enable ease of use and greater user ***,with minor modifications,the ANN estimation model is also applicable to other geographical areas and tractors or combine harvesters of different countries of origin.

In this work,the steam reforming of acetic acid was catalyzed by Ni-based catalysts supported on ceria-zirconia of different morphological structures(nanopolyhedra,nanorods,and nanocubes).The altered shapes led to the variation in catalyst properties,such as the exposed planes,ease of Ni reduction/oxidation,and carbon removal,which affected its catalytic ***,it was found that the exposed planes present in cubic{100}and rod structures({100}and{110})enhanced the formation of Ni^(0) and subsequently promoted the reforming ***,oxygen vacancies and mobility properties of{100}and{110}exposed planes can promote the oxidation reaction of carbon,resulting in a stable catalyst for the reforming of acetic *** results also showed that the type of depositing carbons was influenced by the support *** the catalysts showed a100% acetic acid conversion with the 15Ni/NC-Ce Zr(cubic structure)catalyst exhibited the highest hydrogen yield.

The work of the paper focused on the post impact of oil spill contamination of groundwater in Bassambiri Nembe Bayelsa State. Groundwater samples were sampled from hand dug wells from eight stations including the control point for physico-chemical investigation using sterilized glass bottles. Sampling was carried out upstream and downstream on the Santa Barbara River across the stations and the results are as follows surface water pH ranged 6.90 - 7.50, electrical conductivity 19739.41 μS/cm - 28920.64 μS/cm and Chloride 6019.63 - 9274.82 mg/l. The Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) varied from 10472.72 mg/l - 16538.19 mg/l dissolved oxygen (DO) 6.21 mg/l - 7.371 mg/l while the mean biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) 0.09 ± 0.52 mg/l - 2.4 ± 0.81 mg/l, temperature 28.04℃ - 31.79℃ while total alkalinity is 43.95 mg/L -73.87 mg/L. Calcium ion ranged 375.68 mg/l - 536.72 mg/l, Magnesium ion 88.35 - 243.24 mg/l and Potassium ion 41.27 - 121.17 mg/l. The results of the study showed that the pH, salinity, alkalinity, total suspended solids (TSS), Chlorides, Phosphates, and Nitrates are within permissible limits of the WHO, however the electrical conductivity, TDS, turbidity, DO, BOD, and hardness exceeded WHO permissible limits for drinking water. Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH) and Heavy metals had low concentrations in the Santa Barbara River across the study area suggesting that surface water is not polluted. However, the surfactants used initially to contain the oil pollution were effective based on this research.

Antibiotic Profile and Molecular Characterization of Typhoidal Salmonellosis among Abattoir Workers in the Southern Region of Nigeria

Typhoid fever remains endemic in most developing countries with large scale transmission through contaminated food and drinking water. Since 2000s, animal and their products have been found to be a common food source for Typhoidal infections. A total of 90 blood specimens, 45 samples each were collected from abattoir and non-abattoir workers in Akwa Ibom State and were screened for Salmonella species using standard cultural and serological techniques. The overall prevalence rate was 12 (13.3%). Salmonella species were distributed in all the three senatorial districts of the State. Percentage distribution of Salmonella isolates was 3 (3.3%) for Uyo, 4 (4.4%) for Eket and 5 (5.6%) were isolated from Ikot Ekpene districts. Out of 90 human subjects screened, 12 (13.3%) were positive and 5 (5.6%) were isolated from non-abattoir while 7 (7.7%) were isolated from abattoir workers. In this study, serological significant titre of ≥160 of Typhoid fever cases was confirmed by blood culture. According to sero-grouping and source of sample collection 4.4% S. typhi was isolated from abattoir workers followed by S. paratyphi A (3.3%) while S. typhimurium and S. gallinarum (2.2%) and S. enteritidis (1.1%). Increase prevalence of Salmonella serovars such as S. gallinarium, S. typhi, S. Typhimurium and S. enteritidis with regular consumption of slaughter meat and other product without proper disinfection and appropriate boiling, represent a serious public health risk in Akwa Ibom State. Demographic data obtained in this study showed that majority of the abattoir workers across the three districts were within the ages of 21 to 30 (33%), 39% were none graduate while 30.4% were secondary school leavers. Fever was recorded as the highest clinical signs and symptoms followed by headache, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea and vomiting. The study is focused on the post impact of oil spill contamination of groundwater in Bassambiri Nembe Bayelsa State. Standard methods were used for the analyses. The result of physico-chemical parameters analyzed shows that the values of the groundwater pH ranged between 5.90 - 6.35, electrical conductivity between 80.39 - 89.23 μS/cm, Salinity 23.3 - 28.69 mg/l, Turbidity 1.71 - 3.84 NTU, Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) 1.12 - 1.36 mg/l, Alkalinity 8.56 - 12.12 mg/l, Total Hardness 11.8 - 14.47 mg/l and Temperature 26.1℃ - 27.3℃. Analysis of cations shows that Na ranged from 7.38 - 10.34 mg/l, K 0.26 - 0.49 mg/l, Calcium ion levels 2.56 - 3.59 mg/l and Mg 0.88 mg/l - 1.23 mg/l. The anions showed Potassium ion levels ranged from 0.01 mg/l - 0.02 mg/l, Chloride ion levels 12.29 mg/l - 15.88 mg/l, Fluoride ion levels 0.01 mg/l and Nitrates from 0.27 mg/l - 0.48 mg/l. Total Heterotopic Fungi population ranged from 15.26 - 48.55 Coliform Forming units/ml. The maximum permissible value of total coliforms in drinking water was exceeded. However, the Total Hydrocarbon Concentration (THC) across the groundwater sample points was less than 0.01 mg/l. The concentration of PAH and BTEX was 0.01 mg/l across the study area. The heavy metal concentrations in the groundwater samples were negligible with levels of 0.01 mg/l observed in the study area except for iron ranging from 0.20 - 0.56 mg/l levels above the WHO permissible limit. The physico-chemical parameters of groundwater indicate that they fall below WHO permissible limits. The cations and anions concentration indicate a stable and healthy water system which is relatively good. The groundwater system has high levels of iron in groundwater and bacterial contamination. Hydrogen energy as a sustainable energy source has most recently become an increasingly important renewable energy resource due to its ability to power fuel cells in zero-emission vehicles and its help in lowering the levels of CO2 emissions. Also, hydrogen has a high energy density and can be utilized in a wide range of applications. It is indeed the fuel of the future but, it is still not entirely apparent how to analyze the most successful ways for hydrogen storage based on technological configuration, nature, and efficiency mechanisms. The historical hydrogen storage technologies as they are presented by the current research have been evaluated, analyzed, and examined in this study. The two categories of hydrogen storage systems are physical-based and *** first category involves storing hydrogen as liquid, cold/cryo-compressed, and compressed gas. Chemical sorption/chemisorption and physical sorption/physisorption are the two primary sub-groups of material-based storage, respectively. The quantitative and qualitative analyses of storage technologies for hydrogen are evaluated in this paper. Also, this report reviews the major safety and reliability issues currently facing hydrogen storage systems. Suggestions are made to assist lay the groundwork for future risk and reliability analysis to ensure safe, dependable operation.

Selection of proper combine harvesters to field conditions by an effective field capacity prediction model

Farmers have to finish their harvesting with high efficiency,because of time and ***,farmers are lacking knowledge and information required for selecting suitable combine harvesters and giving the conditions of their rice fields,because both information factors(combine harvester and field condition)impact the field *** field capacity model was generated from combine harvesters with the Thai Hom Mali rice variety(KDML-105).Therefore,this study aimed to determine the prediction model for effective field capacity to combine harvesters when harvesting the Thai Hom Mali rice variety(KDML-105).The methods began by collecting data of 15 combine harvesters,such as field,crop,and machine conditions and operating times;to generate the prediction model for the KDML-105 *** prediction model was then validated using 12 combine harvesters that were collected similarly to the model *** results showed a root mean square error(RMSE)of 0.24 m^(2)/s for the *** prediction model can be applied for farmers to select the proper combine harvesters and give their field conditions.
