AIM: To investigate -765G > C COX-2 polymorphism and H pylori infection in patients with gastric adenocarcinoma, peptic ulcer disease (PUd) and non- ulcer dyspepsia (NUd). METHOdS: We enrolled 348 adult patients (62 gastric adenocarcinoma, 45 PUd and 241 NUd) undergoing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy at two referral centers between September, 2002 and May, 2007. H pylori infection was diagnosed when any of the four tests (RUT, culture, histopathology and PCR) were positive. Genotyping for -765G > C polymorphism of COX-2 was performed by PCR-RFLP analysis. RESULTS: Frequency of C carrier had significantassociation with gastric adenocarcinoma as compared to NUd [77.4% vs 29%, P dds ratio (OR) 8.20; 95% confidence interval (95% CI), 4.08-16.47] and PUd (77.4% vs 31.1%, P denocarcinoma was significantly higher in patients having C carrier with (OR 7.83; 95% CI 3.09-19.85) and without H pylori infection (OR 7.06; 95% CI, 2.61-19.09). Patients with C carrier and H pylori infection had significant risk for the development of PUd (P C COX-2 polymorphism with or without H pylori could be a marker for genetic susceptibility to gastric adenocarcinoma. COX-2 polymorphism in presence of H pylori infection might be useful in predicting the risk of PUd.

BACKGROUNd Aberrant activation of phosphorylated form of glycogen synthase kinase-3β[pS9 GSK-3β(Serine 9 phosphorylation)] is known to trigger Wnt/β-catenin signal cascade but its clinicohistopathological implications in bladder carcinogenesis remain *** To investigate the diagnostic and prognostic relevance of expressions of pS9 GSK-3β, β-catenin and its target genes in the pathobiology of bladder *** Bladder tumor tissues from ninety patients were analyzed for quantitative expression and cellular localization of pS9 GSK-3β by immunohistochemical(IHC) staining. Real time-quantitative polymerase chain reaction and IHC were done to check the expression of β-catenin, Cyclin d1, Snail and Slug at transcriptome and protein level respectively. Clinicohistopathological variables were obtained from histology reports, follow up and OPd visits of *** of the markers were statistically correlated with these variables to determine their significance in clinical setting. Results were analysed using SPSS20.0 *** Aberrant(low or no membranous/high nuclear/high cytoplasmic) expression of pS9 GSK-3β was noted in 51% patients and found to be significantly associated with tumor stage and tumor grade(P = 0.01 and 0.04; Mann Whitney U test).Thirty one percent tumors exhibited aberrant co-expression of pS9 GSK-3β andβ–catenin proteins and showed strong statistical association with tumor stage,tumor type, smoking/tobacco chewing status(P = 0.01, 0.02 and 0.04, MannWhitney U test) and shorter overall survival probabilities of patients(P = 0.02;Kaplan Meier test). Nuclear immunostaining of Cyclin d1 in tumors with altered pS9 GSK-3β/β–catenin showed relevance with tumor stage, grade and ***β–catenin and pS9 GSK-3β proteins are identified as markers of diagnostic/prognostic significance in disease pathogenesis. Monitoring and understanding the changes in mangrove ecosystems and their surroundings are required to determine how mangrove ecosystems are constantly changing while influenced by anthropogenic, and natural drivers. Cosistency in high spatial resolution (30 m) satellite and high performance computing facilities are limiting factors to the process, with storage and analysis requirements. With this, we present the Google Earth Engine (GEE) based approach for long term mapping of mangrove forests and their surroundings. In this study, we used a GEE based approach: 1) to create atmospheric contamination free data from 1987-2017 from different Landsat satellite imagery;and 2) evaluating the random forest classifier and post classification change detection method. The obtained overall accuracy for the years 1987 and 2017 was determined to be 0.87 and 0.96, followed by a Kappa coefficient 0.80 and 0.94. The change detection results revealed a significant decrease in the agricultural area, while there was an increase in mangrove forest, shrimp/fish farm, and bareland area. The results suggest that interconversion of land use and land cover is affecting the landscape dynamics within the study area.

Effect of FFd-410 (HiOwna-Jr.), a Balanced Herbal Nutritional Supplement on Biochemical, Hematological, Immunological and Cognitive Parameters of Wistar Rats

Present study was aimed to evaluate the effect HiOwna-Jr. (FFd-410) on vital biochemical, hematological, immunological and cognitive functions in rats;also in vitro antioxidant studies were carried out to evaluate the antioxidant capacity of FFd-410. Animals of respective groups were treatment with FFd-410 for 90 days and blood samples were collected for the estimation of biochemical, hematological parameters and serum immunoglobulin levels;haemoagglutination assay was carried out using Sheep Red blood cells (SRBC’s). In addition, effect of FFd-410 on cognition and memory was evaluated by modified elevated plus maze test. Apart from in vivo studies, in vitro studies such as dPPH radical scavenging assay, reducing power assay and ORAC assays were carried out to evaluate the free radical scavenging and antioxidant activity of FFd-410. Pretreatment with FFd-410 for 90 days did not bring about any change in serum biochemical and hematological parameters and relative organ weights etc., which could account for its wide safety margin at tested dose levels (2.5 and 5.0 g/kg, p.o.). However, FFd-410 showed potent immunostimulant activity by elevating the serum immunoglobulins and haemoagglutination titer values, also the pretreatment with FFd-410 showed dose dependent improvement in short-term cognition and memory in elevated plus maze test. Furthermore, in vitro antioxidant studies FFd-410 exhibited significant and dose dependent free radical scavenging and antioxidant activity as assessed by dPPH (IC50 value of 1162.6 μg/ml), reducing power and ORAC assays (Trolox equivalence/g of 76.1). These findings suggest that, FFd-410 possess very good antioxidant, cognition improving and potent immunostimulant properties. Also, there was no significant change in the serum biochemical and hematological parameters and relative organ weights were observed after 90 days treatment with FFd-410, which could account for its wide safety of margin at tested dose levels (2.5 and5.0 g/kg. p.o

Sustainable fashion is currently a vastly discussed and debated topic in fashion world. This article critically evaluates various Indian traditional clothing such as dhoti, Pancha, Mundase, Pheta, Orhni, Sari, Lungi, etc. as a sustainable fashion. As these products are unstitched, fabric wastage in cutting is practically nil. In addition, they can be used to envelop any shape and size of the body. These clothing can be used for a long time. These products have multi-purpose applications. They can be custom-made on demand in an environment-friendly manner. When they are no longer desired, they can be handed over to others or secondhand shops. Their active-life can be prolonged as they are used as cut-towels.
