Comparative antimicrobial activity in Murrah buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) Heifers’ urine and urine distillate

Background:Murrah buffalo is a breed of water buffalo(Bubalus bubalis)reared for milk and meat,especially in Northern *** are so many studies on the antimicrobial potential of the cow(Bos indicus)urine but buffalo urine has rarely been *** study was aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity in whole buffalo urine and its ***:Urine specimens were collected from seven Murrah buffalo heifers in the morning over three days from all seven heifers and distillated to prepare urine distillate(ud).The antimicrobial activity was determined through 96 well microplate method diluting(1:1)urine and ud in Mueller Hinton liquid medium against 919 microbial strains belonging to 148 species of 49 genera(Candia,11 genera of Gram+ve bacteria,37 genera of Gram-ve bacteria).The test strains were taken from the repository,revived and tested for purity before *** test strains were of clinical origin(372),environmental origin(496)and also from reference strain repositories(51).Results:Of the 919 test strains,a total of 57.89%and 56.04%of the tested strains were susceptible to ud and urine,*** was a no significant(p>0.4)difference in the antimicrobial activity of ud and urine against 919 strains of microbes,regardless of their genus,species,and Gram staining ***,there was no significant(p>0.4)difference between the susceptibility of bacterial and Candida strains to ud or ***,strains of clinical origin were more often resistant to buffalo ud and urine(pam staining characteristics(p>0.05).A significantly(pud and urine than microbial strains of clinical and environmental *** buffalo urine and ud,the most susceptible strains were Stenotrophomonas maltophilia(13/13)followed by Citrobacter freundii(8/10);Salmonella enterica ***(21/27),Geobacillus stearothermo

Exploring the efficacy of natural products in alleviating Alzheimer’s disease

Alzheimer’s disease(hereafter AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects the central nervous system. There are multiple factors that cause AD, viz., accumulation of extracellular amyloid-beta 42 plaques, intracellular hyper-phosphorylated Tau tangles, generation of reactive oxygen species due to mitochondrial dysfunction and genetic mutations. The plaques and tau tangles trigger aberrant signaling, which eventually cause cell death of the neurons. As a result, there is shrinkage of brain, cognitive defects, behavioral and psychological problems. To date, there is no direct cure for AD. Thus, scientists have been testing various strategies like screening for the small inhibitor molecule library or natural products that may block or prevent onset of AD. Historically, natural products have been used in many cultures for the treatment of various diseases. The research on natural products have gained importance as the active compounds extracted from them have medicinal values with reduced side effects, and they are bioavailable. The natural products may target the proteins or members of signaling pathways that get altered in specific diseases. Many natural products are being tested in various animal model systems for their role as a potential therapeutic target for AD, and to address questions about how these natural products can rescue AD or other neurodegenerative disorders. Some of these products are in clinical trials and results are promising because of their neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-amyloidogenic, anticholinesterase activities and easy availability. This review summarizes the use of animal model systems to identify natural products, which may serve as potential therapeutic targets for AD.

The effects of disturbance on forest structure and diversity along an altitudinal gradient in the temperate,sub-tropical,and tropical regions of Garhwal Himalaya were *** region was further categorized into undisturbed(ud),mildly disturbed(MD),and highly disturbed(HD)sites on the basis of magnitude of disturbance in these *** ud sites of temperate,sub-tropical and tropical regions,Quercus leucotrichophora,Anogeissus latifolia and Holoptelea integrifolia were the dominant tree species *** highest values of tree density(1028 ind·hm-2)and total basal cover at breast height(31.70 m2 ·hm-2)were recorded for ud site of temperate region,whereas maximum species diversity(3.128)and equitability(14.09)values were observed for HD site of tropical *** structure and composition of the forests were greatly affected by the degree of disturbance.

The neutron deficient Xe nuclei with A≈120 are predicted to have strong octupole correlation at low *** the present study,an attempt was made to improve upon the level scheme and also to examine the signatures of octupole correlation in^(118)xe via high spin γ-ray *** spin states in^(118)Xe have been populated via the^(93)Nb(^(28)Si,p2n)^(118)Xe fusion-evaporation reaction at a beam energy of 115 MeV provided by the 15 ud pelletron accelerator facility at IUAC,New *** the experiment,seven newγ-transitions have been found and placed appropriately in the level scheme.A theoretical study using the triaxial projected shell model(TPSM)approach suggests that the first bandcrossing is due to the alignment of two neutrons,and a parallel band tracking the yrast configuration is the γ-band built on the two-quasiparticle *** E1 transition rates measured between opposite parity bands involving vh_(11/2)and vd_(5/2)orbitals having△j=△l=3 indicate the presence of octupole correlation in this nucleus.
