AIM:To provide a comprehensive and more representative national data on the disease,especially on treatment options and outcomes,and to determine access of retinoblastoma patients from Luzon,Visayas and Mindanao to eye care,and determine if access is associated with delay in consultation,staging and ***:Cohort study of retinoblastoma patients seen in eleven institutions located in the three major areas of the Philippines namely Luzon,Vizayas and Mindanao from ***:Totally 636 patients,involving 821 eyes,were ***(57%)were from Luzon and were seen in institutions in Luzon(72%).Annually,58±10 new cases were seen with 71%having unilateral *** delay of consultation remained long at 9(3,17)mo,longest in patients with unilateral disease(Pe from the Visayas(Ped on the International Retinoblastoma Staging System,only 35%of patients had Stage 1 while 47%already had extraocular *** was the most common treatment received by 484 patients while intravenous chemotherapy was received by *** were 250(39%)patients alive,195(31%)dead,85(13%)abandoned,17(3%)refused and 89(14%)with no ***:This study presents the largest cohort of retinoblastoma patients in the Philippines in terms of patients’and participating institutions’number and geographical location and type of institution(private and public).It also presents more comprehensive data on the treatments used and outcomes(survival,globe salvage,and vision retention rates).Delay in consultation was still long among patients leading to advanced disease stage and lower survival *** increasing capacity to diagnose and manage retinoblastoma in the country,the delay of consultation remains long primarily due to accessibility issues to eye care institutions especially in the Visayas and financial *** delay was still significant that overall survival rate remain low.

Positive effect of carbohydrate-metabolizing bacteria determines increasing soil organic carbon during long-term fertilization and straw returning in the black soil region of China

In the context of global efforts to reduce carbon (C) emissions, several studies have examined the effects of agricultural practices such as straw returning and fertilization on C sequestration by microorganisms. However, our understanding of the specific microbial groups and their roles in long-term C increase remains limited. In this study, a 36-year (1984–2020) farmland experiment was conducted to investigate the impact of bacterial C metabolism on the augmentation of organic C in a Typic Hapludoll (Mollisol) in the black soil region of Jilin Province, Northeast China. Our results demonstrated a noteworthy increase in the diversity of microorganisms in the farmland as a result of long-term straw returning and application of mixed chemical fertilizers. However,by examining the functions of microorganisms involved in C metabolism, it was observed that the effects of fertilization on C metabolism were relatively consistent. This consistency was attributed to a deterministic competitive exclusion process, which minimized the differences between treatment groups. On the other hand, the influence of straw addition on C metabolism appeared to follow a more random pattern. These changes in microbial activity were closely linked to the downregulation of core metabolic pathways related to C metabolism. Notably, long-term fertilization had a negative impact on soil organic C levels, while long-term straw returning plus fertilization resulted in a positive increase in soil organic C. These findings have important implications for enhancing soil organic C and grain yield in the regions with typical black soil.

Inter-relationship of Various Results in Analysis of （14.0 MeV／u） Pb＋Pb Reaction using Mica and CN-85 Track Detectors

Two detector materials mica and cellulose-nitrate(CN)-85 have been used to study (14.0MeV/u) Pb + Pb reaction. events of different multiplicities were registered in mica and CN-85 detectors using the 2π-geometry technique of solid state nuclear track detection. After removing the target material from the detectors the damaged trails in the detectors were revealed as tracks by proper chemical etching. The irradiated area of each sample was scanned and events of different multiplicities were traced. The binary events were bifurcated into elastic and inelastic events. The elastic binary events and three prong events, observed in the reaction, have been used to search out coefficients Cμν in the presence of both the detectors, for the reaction under study. using these coefficients 3- and 4-prong events have been analysed. From the detailed analysis of the results of (14.0MeV/u) Pb+Pb reaction, obtained from mica and CN-85 track detectors we observed a great resemblance of results obtained from the two detectors. Combining the results of both the detectors, we report some important outcomes.

effects of different ratios of soluble to insoluble dietary fiber on growth performance and intestinal health of piglets

This study investigated the impact of different ratios of soluble to insoluble dietary fiber(SDF:IDF)formulations by sugar beet pulp(SBP)supplementation on piglet growth performance,nutrient digestibility,immune function,intestinal morphology,intestinal microbiota and intestinal health.A total of 60 crossbred piglets(Duroc×[Landrace×Yorkshire])at 40 d old with body weight of 10.0±0.3 kg were randomly assigned to 5 treatments with 6 replicates per treatment and 2 piglets per replicate in a 21-d *** dietary treatments included a corn-soybean meal diet(0%SBP supplementation;CON),and diets supplemented with 2%,4%,6%,and 8%SBP,representing different SDF:IDF ratios at 10.16%,13.53%,16.79%,19.86%,and 24.81%,*** results indicated that the 8%SBP treatment had a negative effect on feed-to-gain ratio(linear,P=0.009)compared with the CON treatment(P=0.021).The apparent total tract digestibility(ATTD)of crude protein was lower in treatments supplemented with SBP(P=0.002)and showed a linear decrease(P=0.001),while the ATTD of IDF showed a linear increase(P=0.037)in four SBP treatments compared to the CON *** 4%SBP treatment increased serum concentrations of triglyceride(quadratic,P=0.019)and K(linear,Pecreased alanine transaminase concentration(quadratic,P=0.015)compared with the CON *** concentrations of Cit,Cys,Ile,Leu,Orn,Arg,taurine,urea,1-methylhistidine,α-aminoadipic acid,α-aminobutyric acid and cystathionine in the 4%SBP treatment were highest among all treatments(Pe serum concentrations of interleukin-6,interleukin-8,interleukin-10,transforming growth factor-β,and tumor necrosis factor-αin the 6%SBP treatment were higher than those in the CON treatment(Peased mucin-2 and G protein-coupled receptor 41 mRNA expression(Pucosa compared with the CON treatment and improved the intestinal barrier *** containing more than 19.86%SDF:IDF could impair the intestinal healt

Characterization of surface liquid segregation in SSM-HPDC aluminium alloys 7075,2024,6082 and A201

The surface liquid segregation(SLS) phenomenon in semi-solid metal-high pressure die casting(SSM-HPDC) plates of 7075,2024,6082 and A201 was investigated by different *** profiles were determined by firstly measuring the chemical composition of the surface of the plates using a Thermo Quantris optical emission spectrometer(OeS).Material was then removed by a grinding process followed by measurement of the amount of material removed and chemical *** profiles of the main alloying elements were plotted for the cross-section of the plates in the as-cast and T6(after solution treatment) temper *** hardness profiles from the surface to the centre of the plates were *** samples of cross-sections of the castings were prepared and evaluated using a scanning electron *** results show that surface liquid segregation in SSM-HPDC alloys causes significant differences in properties between the surface and the bulk of these castings in both the F and T6 temper conditions.

etch Induction Time in CR-39 Detectors etched in Na2CO3 Mixed NaOH Solution

Six different solutions of 6M NaOH, containing different amounts of Na2CO3 at 70℃ were used for the revelation of latent damage trails in CR-39 plastic track detectors. These detectors were earlier exposed to fission fragments from ^252 Cf source for 30 min in vacuum and were then etched in the respective solutions for different etching time intervals of 5-20 min starting from 5min up to 160min. The etch induction time in each detector was obtained by extrapolating the intersection of resulting curves of track lengths and track diameters with the time axis.
