Photoprodu.tion of mu.ti-meson final states–recent resu.ts from the Crystal-Barrel/TAPS experiment at ELSA-

Mu.ti-meson final states su.h as γp →pπ0π0 and γp →pπ0η have been investigated with the Crystal-Barrel/TAPS experiment at ELSA. Baryon cascades via △π and △η and also via higher mass baryon resonances are clearly observed. Based on this data and on data from other reactions a partial wave analysis has been performed from which partial decay widths of variou. N＊ and △＊ states into the different pπ0π0 and pπ0η decay channels have been determined, leading partly to u.expected resu.ts. In addition, polarisation observables have been investigated. The beam asymmetry X has been determined for both reactions and dou.le polarisation data u.ing a longitu.inally polarised target and a circu.arly or linearly polarised photon beam has been taken. Given the angu.ar coverage of the Crystal-Baxrel/TAPS experiment this data covers almost the fu.l angu.ar range and phase space. This data will provide new and important information for the partial wave analyses and bring u. one step closer towards a complete experiment.

MARTENSITIC AND R PHASE TRANSFOR MATIONS IN NiTiand NiTiHf

The ongoing collaborative research between Au.u.n u.iversity and Johnson Controls was described. A Ti rich binary NiTi alloy and two ternary alloys having the compositions Ni 49 Ti 51- x Hf x with 1% and 3%(more fraction) Hf were investigated. The influ.nce of Hf content, cold working(CW) and heat treatment temperatu.e (HT) on the martensitic and R phase transformations was thermally analyzed u.ing differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The crystal stru.tu.es of the alloys were examined by X ray diffraction. Resu.ts showed that at low HT, the martensitic transformation temperatu.e (TT) decreases with increasing CW for all the alloys stu.ied. In this alloy, for a given CW, the martensite TT increases with increasing HT above 350 ℃. This phenomenon is enhanced by the presence of Hf. Different mechanisms can be responsible for the observed behavior. These mechanisms may involve interaction between phase transformations, dislocations and internal stresses. The effect of Hf su.stitu.ion is likely du. to the atomic size difference between Ti and Hf. A secondary phase,identified as Ti 2Ni in binary NiTi and (TiHf) 2Ni in the two ternary alloys, was observed. The influ.nce of cold work, heat treatment and thermal cycling on the R phase (R) transformation in three alloys was also thermally analyzed. Resu.ts showed that su.h transformation depends on composition as well as CW and HT conditions in a complex manner. Effort was made to identify the microstru.tu.e and the factors responsible for the observed behavior in the R phase transformation.

Assessment of u.nta Basin Oil and Natu.al Gas Well Pad Pneu.atic Controller Emissions

In the fall of 2016, a field stu.y was condu.ted in the u.nta Basin u.ah to improve information on oil and natu.al gas well pad pneu.atic controllers (PCs) and emission measu.ement methods. A total of 80 PC systems at five oil sites (su.porting six wells) and three gas sites (su.porting 12 wells) were su.veyed, and emissions data were produ.ed u.ing a combination of measu.ements and engineering emission estimates. Ninety-six percent of the PCs su.veyed were low actu.tion frequ.ncy intermittent vent type. The overall whole gas emission rate for the stu.y was estimated at 0.36 scf/h with the majority of emissions occu.ring from three continu.u. vent PCs (1.1 scf/h average) and eleven (14%) malfu.ctioning intermittent vent PC systems (1.6 scf/h average). Oil sites employed, on average 10.3 PC systems per well compared to 1.5 for gas sites. Oil and gas sites had grou. average PC emission rates of 0.28 scf/h and 0.67 scf/h, respectively. This difference was du. in part to differing site selection procedu.es u.ed for oil and gas sites. The PC system types encou.tered, the engineering emissions estimate approach, and comparisons to measu.ements are described. Su.vey methods inclu.ed identification of malfu.ctioning PC systems and emission measu.ements with au.mented high volu.e sampling and installed mass flow meters, each providing a somewhat different representation of emissions that are elu.idated throu.h example cases.
