Catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation in a subset of patients with concomitant hypertension

AIM:To study patients with atrial fibrillation and hypertension who had successful catheter ablation for changes in blood pressure 1 year ***:A retrospective study was performed on patients who had catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation(AF) and hypertension(HTN) which included local autonomic ganglionated plexi denervation and pulmonary veins *** the records of 119 patients,followup data was found in order to determine the presence of sinus rhythm and data on systolic(SBP) and diastolic blood pressure at 2 wk,3 mo,6 mo and 1 year after the ablation *** echocardiograms were taken at the time of the catheter procedure to determine left atrial dimensions(LADs) and left ventricular ***:There was no significant difference in the preablation mean blood pressures between the two groups(P = 0.08).After 1 year 33 of the 60 with AF and HTN were in sinus rhythm,of whom 12 had normal LADs,≤ 4 cm Group 1,and 21 had enlarged left atria(LADs > 4 cm,Group 2).For Group 1,at 1 year of follow up,there was a significant difference in the SBP(119.2 ± 13 mm Hg) compared to pre-ablation(142.6 ± 13.7 mm Hg,P = 0.001).For Group 2,there was no significant difference in the SBP,pre-ablation(130.3 ± 17.5 mm Hg) and at 1 year of follow up(130.4 ± 13.4 mm Hg,P = 0.75).All patients were on similar anti-hypertensive *** was a trend for a greater left ventricular size in Group 2 compared to Group ***:We suggest that Group 1 had HTN due to sympathetic hyperactivity,neurogenic HTN;whereas HTN in Group 2 was based on arterial vasoconstriction.

Development and Integration of a Data Acquisition System for SST-1 Phase-1 Plasma Diagnostics

Long pulse （of the order of 1000 s or more） SST-1 tokamak experiments demand a data acquisition system that is capable of acquiring data from various diagnostics channels without losing useful data （and hence physics information） while avoiding unnecessary generation of a large volume data. SST-1 Phase-1 tokamak operation has been envisaged with data acquisition of several essential diagnostics channels. These channels demand data acquisition at a sampling rate ranging from 1 kilo samples per second （KSPS） to 1 mega samples per second （MSPS）. Considering the technical characteristics and requirements of the diagnostics, a data acquisition system based on PXI and CAMAC has been developed for SST-1 plasma diagnostics. Both these data acquisition systems are scalable. Present data acquisition needs involving slow plasma diagnostics are catered by the PXI based data acquisition system. On the other hand, CAMAC data acquisition hardware meets all requirements of the SST-1 Phase-1 fast plasma diagnostics channels. A graphical user interface for both data acquisition systems （PXI and CAMAC） has been developed using LabVIEW application development software. The collected data on the local hard disk are directly streaming to the central server through a dedicated network for post-shot data analysis. This paper describes the development and integration of the data acquisition system for SST-1 Phase-1 plasma diagnostics. The integrated testing of the developed data acquisition system has been performed using SST-1 central control and diagnostics signal conditioning units. In the absence of plasma shots, the integrated testing of the data acquisition system for the initial diagnostics of SST-1 Phase-1 operation has been performed with simulated physical signals. The primary engineering objective of this integrated testing is to validate the performance of the developed data acquisition system under simulated conditions close to that of actual tokamak operation. Utility of trans-vaginal ultrasound in diagnosis and follow-up of non-pregnant sexually active females with lower ureteric calculi

objective:To assess the utility of trans-vaginal ultrasonography in evaluation of non-pregnant sexually active female patients with lower ureteric ***:A prospective study was done from January 2015 to December 2017 including non-pregnant sexually active females with suspected ureteric ***-abdominal ultrasound was initially done in all *** those patients in whom trans-abdominal ultrasound was inconclusive or there was indirect evidence of lower ureteric calculus in form of ureteral dila-tion but no calculus was evident,trans-vaginal ultrasound was *** patients with ureteric calculi detected on trans-vaginal ultrasound and kept on conservative management were also followed up with trans-vaginal ***-contrast computed tomography was done in patients with inconclusive trans-vaginal ***:As per the study protocol,156 out of the total 468 patients evaluated by trans-abdominal ultrasound were eligible for trans-vaginal ***-vaginal ultrasound was done in 149 patients,as seven patients did not give ***-nine patients were detected with a lower ureteric calculus on trans-vaginal ultrasound and 27 patients had gyne-cologic or other cause for their ***-three patients had an inconclusive trans-vaginal ultrasound of which 36 underwent non-contrast computed tomography,among them only one patient had a lower ureteric *** free status could be easily demonstrated on follow-up trans-vaginal ultrasound.
