Optimizing the Double Inverted Pendulum′s Performance via the Uniform Neuro Multiobjective Genetic Algorithm

An inverted pendulum is a sensitive system of highly coupled parameters, in laboratories, it is popular for modelling nonlinear systems such as mechanisms and control systems, and also for optimizing programmes before those programmes are applied in real situations. This study aims to find the optimum input setting for a double inverted pendulum（DIP）, which requires an appropriate input to be able to stand and to achieve robust stability even when the system model is unknown. Such a DIP input could be widely applied in engineering fields for optimizing unknown systems with a limited budget. Previous studies have used various mathematical approaches to optimize settings for DIP, then have designed control algorithms or physical mathematical *** study did not adopt a mathematical approach for the DIP controller because our DIP has five input parameters within its nondeterministic system model. This paper proposes a novel algorithm, named Uni Neuro, that integrates neural networks（NNs） and a uniform design（UD） in a model formed by input and response to the experimental data（metamodel）. We employed a hybrid UD multiobjective genetic algorithm（HUDMOGA） for obtaining the optimized setting input parameters. The UD was also embedded in the HUDMOGA for enriching the solution set, whereas each chromosome used for crossover, mutation, and generation of the UD was determined through a selection procedure and derived individually. Subsequently, we combined the Euclidean distance and Pareto front to improve the performance of the algorithm. Finally, DIP equipment was used to confirm the settings. The proposed algorithm can produce 9 alternative configured input parameter values to swing-up then standing in robust stability of the DIP from only 25 training data items and 20 optimized simulation results. Method of Inequalities-based Multiobjective Genetic Algorithm for Optimizing a Cart-double-pendulum System

This article presents a multiobjective approach to the design of the controller for the swing-up and handstand control of a general cart-double-pendulum system （CDPS）. The designed controller, which is based on the human-simulated intelligent control （HSIC） method, builds up different control modes to monitor and control the CDPS during four kinetic phases consisting of an initial oscillation phase, a swing-up phase, a posture adjustment phase, and a balance control phase. For the approach, the original method of inequalities-based （MoI） multiobjective genetic algorithm （MMGA） is extended and applied to the case study which uses a set of performance indices that includes the cart displacement over the rail boundary, the number of swings, the settling time, the overshoot of the total energy, and the control effort. The simulation results show good responses of the CDPS with the controllers obtained by the proposed approach.

Wavelet-based ECG data compression optimization with genetic algorithm

With a direct impact on compression performance, optimal quantization scheme is crucial for transform-based ECG data compression. However, traditional optimization schemes derived with signal adaption are commonly inherent with signal dependency and unsuitable for real-time application. In this paper, the variety of arrhythmia ECG signal is utilized for optimizing the quantization scheme of wavelet-based ECG data compression based on a genetic algorithm (GA). The GA search can induce a stationary relationship among the quantization scales of multi-resolution levels. The stationary property facilitates the control of multi-level quantization scales with a single variable. For this aim, a three-dimensional (3-D) curve fitting technique is applied for deriving a quantization scheme with linear distortion characteristic. The linear distortion property can be almost independent of ECG signals and provide fast error control. The compression performance and convergence speed of reconstruction quality maintenance are also evaluated by using the MIT-BIH arrhythmia database.

Evaluation of commutation failure risk in single-or multi-infeed LCC-HVDC systems based on equivalent-fault method

In single-or multi-infeed line-commutated converter-based high-voltage direct current(LCC-HVDC) systems, commutation failure(CF) induced by alternating current(AC) faults may lead to serious consequences. Considering the randomness of fault occurrences, an accurate evaluation of the CF risk(CFR) from the system point of view becomes necessary in power system planning and operation. This paper first provides a definition of the CF severity(CFS) index corresponding to an AC fault. Then,on the basis of electromagnetic transient(EMT) simulation, an approach to calculate the CFS index considering the randomness of fault-occurrence time is presented. A novel equivalent-fault method is further put forward to make the EMT simulation scalable to calculate the CFS index in terms of a fault occurring in a large-scale receiving-end grid. Thereafter, the CFR index is introduced, which is defined as the sum of the products of the CFS index of each AC fault and the corresponding fault ***, the proposed method is verified on the modified IEEE 9-bus and modified IEEE 39-bus systems using PSCAD/EMTDC.

Nonlinear Parametric Vibration of a Fluid-Conveying Pipe Flexibly Restrained at the Ends

The strategies of advanced cathode composites for lithium-sulfur batteries

Lithium-sulfur batteries have been widely nominated as one of the most promising next-generation electrochemical storage systems due to its low cost, high capacity and energy density. However, its practical application is still hindered by poor cycling lifetime, low Coulombic efficiency, instability and small scales. In the last decade, the electrochemical performances of the lithium-sulfur batteries have been improved by developing various novel nanoarchitectures as qualified hosts, and enhancing the sulfur loading with effective encapsulating strategies. The review summarizes the major sulfur cooperating strategies of cathodes based on background and latest progress of the lithium-sulfur batteries. The novel cooperating strategies of physical techniques and chemical synthesis techniques are discussed in detail. Based on the rich chemistry of sulfur, we paid more attention to the highlights of sulfur encapsulating strategies. Furthermore, the critical research directions in the coming future are proposed in the conclusion and outlook section.

Recycled concrete aggregate(RCA)derived from demolition waste has been widely explored for use in civil engineering *** of the promising strategies globally is to incorporate RCA into concrete ***,the use of RCA in high-performance concrete,such as self-consolidating concrete(SCC),has only been studied in the past *** paper summarizes recent publications on the use of coarse and/or fine RCA in *** expected,the high-water absorption and porous structure of RCA have posed challenges in producing a high-fluidity *** to an analysis of published data,a lower strength reduction(within 23%regardless of coarse RCA content)is observed in SCC compared with vibrated concrete,possibly due to the higher paste content in the SCC matrix,which enhances the weak surface layer of RCA and interfacial transition ***,SCC tends to become less durable with RCA substitution although the deterioration can be minimized by using treated RCA through removing or strengthening the adhered *** date,the information reported on the role of RCA in the long-term performance of SCC is still limited;thus,a wide range of research is needed to demonstrate the feasibility of RCA–SCC in field applications.
