AIM: To verify the usefulness of FibroQ for predicting fi brosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C, compared with other noninvasive tests. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included 237 consecutive patients with chronic hepatitis C who had undergone percutaneous liver biopsy before treatment. FibroQ, aspartate aminotransferase (AST)/alanine aminotransferase ratio (AAR), AST to platelet ratioindex, cirrhosis discriminant score, age-platelet index (API), Pohl score, FIB-4 index, and Lok's model were calculated and compared. RESULTS: FibroQ, FIB-4, AAR, API and Lok's model results increased significantly as fibrosis advanced (analysis of variance test: P < 0.001). FibroQ trended to be superior in predicting signifi cant fi brosis score in chronic hepatitis C compared with other noninvasive tests. CONCLUSION: FibroQ is a simple and useful test for predicting signifi cant fi brosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C.

BACKGROUND Hepatitis C virus(HCV)genotype 6(HCV-6)infection is prevalent predominantly in Southeast Asia,and the data on the virologic response of HCV-6 to direct-acting antivirals(DAAs)are sparse in people living with human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)(PLWH).AIM To assess the virologic response of HCV-6 to DAAs in *** From September 2016 to July 2019,PLWH coinfected with HCV-6 initiating DAAs were *** investigations were performed at baseline,the end of treatment,and 12 wk *** Of the 349 PLWH included(mean age 48.9 years,82.5%men),80.5%comprised people who inject drugs,18.1%men who have sex with men,and 1.4%*** hepatitis B virus infection was present in 12.3%of the included PLWH,liver cirrhosis 10.9%,hepatocellular carcinoma 0.9%,and previous HCV treatment experience 10.9%.The mean baseline plasma HCV RNA was 6.2 log10 IU/m *** with glecaprevir/pibrentasvir was initiated in 51.9%,sofosbuvir/ledipasvir 41.5%,sofosbuvir/velpatasvir 6.3%,and sofosbuvir/daclatasvir 0.3%.At DAA initiation,antiretroviral therapy containing tenofovir alafenamide was given in 26.4%,tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 34.4%,non-tenofovir alafenamide/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 39.3%,non-nucleoside reverse-transcriptase inhibitors 30.4%,protease inhibitors 4.0%,and integrase strand transfer inhibitors 66.8%;94.8%of the included patients had CD4 counts≥200 cells/mm3 and 96.0%had plasma HIV RNA<50 copies/m ***,96.8%achieved undetectable plasma HCV RNA(<30 IU/m L)at end of treatment;and 92.3%achieved sustained virologic response 12 wk off-therapy in the intention-to-treat analysis(93.5%in patients receiving sofosbuvir-based DAAs and 91.2%in those receiving glecaprevir/pibrentasvir).CONCLUSION Similar to the observation made in HIV-negative patients,sustained virologic response 12 wk offtherapy with DAAs is high in PLWH coinfected with HCV-6.

Zoonoses account for the majority of emerging infectious diseases and pose a serious threat to human and animal *** global warming and climate change,zoonoses are significantly affected by influencing hosts,vectors,and pathogen dynamics as well as their *** zoonoses surveillance relies on molecular or serological diagnostic methods to monitor pathogens from animal or patient samples,which may miss the early warning signs of pathogens spillover from the ***,new technologies such as remote sensing,environment-based screening,multi-omics,and big data science facilitate comprehensive active surveillance,offering great potential for early warning and *** the recent technological advances,there is few reviews that explores the integration of cutting-edge technologies aimed at constructing a robust early warning ***,we discussed the opportunities,barriers,and limitations of interdisciplinary emerging technologies for exploring early warning and surveillance of *** systematic review summarized a practical framework for early surveillance integrated with a modified SEIR model for zoonoses in the context of climate *** also outlined challenges and future prospects in terms of data sharing,early detection of unknown zoonoses and the move towards global surveillance.

The modification of 3D printed porous titanium(Ti),especially for the internal pore structure,is critical and has received more attention to promoting its osteogenesis for clinical ***-violet(UV)responsive chitosan(CSMA),as an injectable filling material,was firstly incorporated into porous Ti,and then CSMA was in-situ mineralized by carbon oxide(CO_(2))diffusion(CSMA/CaCO_(3)).Their physical-chemical and biological properties were investigated in ***_(3) crystals within CSMA hydrogels were successfully deposited into pores of porous Ti,which exhibited favorable *** implants filled with CSMA/CaCO_(3) promoted adhesion and proliferation of bone mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs).Moreover,Ti implant filled CSMA/CaCO_(3) hydrogels could increase alkaline phosphatase(ALP)activities,up-regulate osteopontin(OPN)and osteocalcin(OCN)expression levels,and enhance extracellular mineralization.3D printed porous Ti filled with mineralized UV-responsive chitosan hydrogel could promote proliferation and osteogenesis of BMSCs,and have great potential for the modification of porous Ti implants in bone tissue engineering.

Examination of DMT-based methods for evaluating the liquefaction potential of soils

The flat dilatometer test (DMT) has the potential to be a useful tool in the evaluation of liquefaction potential of soils. In practice, it is necessary to carefully examine existing DMT-based methods for evaluating liquefaction potential. We con- ducted the DMT and cone penetration test (CPT) in high liquefaction potential areas to examine the existing DMT-based methods for liquefaction potential evaluation. Specifically, the DMT and CPT were conducted side-by-side at each of six in-situ sites, and thus it is feasible to utilize those test results to validate the existing DMT-based methods. The DMT parameter, horizontal stress index (KD), is used as an indicator for estimating liquefaction resistance of soils in terms of cyclic resistance ratio (CRR). The analysis results revealed that the existing KD-based liquefaction evaluation methods would overestimate the CRR of soils, which leads to overestimation of the factor of safety against liquefaction. Also, the estimations of DMT-KD values by using the CPT-qc as well as the correlation between DMT-KD and CPT-qc proposed by the previous studies would be sig- nificantly smaller than field measurements. The results reflected that further validation of the existing DMT-based methods for liquefaction evaluation is desirable.

Objective:To determine the degree of knowledge in the usage of pulse oximeter as a home assessment tool among the community in ***:A cross-sectional survey was conducted in November *** questionnaire assessed the knowledge in using pulse oximeters,user experience and opinions in using pulse oximeter as a home assessment tool during the ***:A total of 504 respondents were included in the study,and the mean score in knowledge related to application of pulse oximetry was 73.00%,while the mean score in knowledge related to factors affecting pulse oximetry readings was only 38.51%.A total of 90.5% of the respondents recognised normal pulse rate and 88.5% knew the blood oxygen saturation levels of a healthy adult,while 69.4% recognised the definition of silent *** addition,the majority of the respondents agreed that factors such as poor blood circulation(71.2%),excessive movements(69.8%),and hand position(60.7%)affected oximetry ***,61.7%,81.7%,77.2% and 76.8% of the respondents could not identify nail polish,skin colour,skin thickness and tattoos as factors that may affect oximetry readings ***:The respondents showed a satisfactory level of knowledge related to application of pulse oximetry,but a poor level of knowledge related to factors affecting pulse oximetry readings among the community in *** efforts in educating the community on the correct use of pulse oximeters are crucial for appropriate home assessment and avoiding unnecessary stress.
