A computation design method for architectural artifacts adapted from traditional Kagome bamboo basketry techniques

This study is a digital form-finding and manual fabrication experiment in woven architectural design,with one traditional weaving style,Kagome,used to scale the craft up into an architectural-scale bamboo woven *** is a trihexagonal pattern employed in traditional bamboo basketry as a triaxial weaving system,resulting in an object with a self-bracing capacity without the use of fasteners owing to its interlacing *** existing studies and tools have addressed triaxial weaving design and representation,the current consideration of the advantages of weaving with bamboo is *** address this research gap,this study develops a computational design method based on studies on bamboo *** allows for the representation and exploration of design geometries using combinations of regular triangular meshes for the fabrication of Kagome woven bamboo artifacts.A full-scale mock-up was fabricated to evaluate the effectiveness of the *** mock-up demonstrated the self-bracing properties of Kagome,but there were discrepancies between the mock-up and the *** affecting bamboo weaving on an architectural scale have been identified within this study to inform future research on woven bamboo structures.

Hypertensive-Nimodipine Therapy for Middle Cerebral Artery Vasospasm after Resection of Glioblastoma Multiforme: A Case Report and Literature Review

Delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) due to post-brain tumor resection vasospasm is an often unrecognized yet debilitating complication. We present a patient with DCI after the resection of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). To our knowledge, this is the first report on DCI after GBM resection. A 52-year-old female patient with headache for one month underwent subtotal resection of a left temporal GBM encasing the proximal middle cerebral artery (MCA). She was well during the immediate postoperative period but developed right upper limb dense monoparesis on postoperative day four with computed tomographic angiography confirming left MCA vasospasm. Symptoms were significantly alleviated with weeklong hypertensive therapy and nimodipine administration;however they recurred soon after cessation of treatment. A high index of clinical suspicion is needed for the diagnosis of post-tumor resection DCI. Any new postoperative neurological deficit that cannot be explained by hemorrhage, seizures or infection should be expeditiously investigated by angiography or transcranial Doppler sonography. Prompt initiation of hypertensive and nimodipine therapy can possibly reverse neurological deficit. Treatment should be guided by Doppler, angiographic or perfusion imaging studies and not by clinical improvement alone.

Asthma and chronic obstructive airway disease ,（COAD） are chronic inflammatory disorders of the airways which are usually associated with widespread airway obstruction that is often relieved by treatment. β2-adrenoreceptor agonists and corticosteriods are the mainstay of the management of this disease. The preferred route of administration of these agents is by inhalation. This allows the drug to be delivered directly to the airway with more rapid relief and fewer side effects than systemic route. The formation of complex hierarchical nanostructures has attracted a lot of attention from both the fundamental science and potential applications point of *** structures with radial fibrillar branches have been found in various solids;however,their growth mechanisms remain poorly ***,we report real time imaging of the formation of two-dimensional(2D)iron oxide spherulite nanostructures in a liquid cell using transmission electron microscopy(TEM).By tracking the growth trajectories,we show the characteristics of the reaction front and growth *** observations reveal that the tip of a growing branch splits as the width exceeds certain sizes(5.5–8.5 nm).The radius of a spherulite nanostructure increases linearly with time at the early stage,transitioning to nonlinear growth at the later ***,a thin layer of solid is accumulated at the tip and nanoparticles from secondary nucleation also appear at the growing front which later develop into fibrillar *** spherulite nanostructure is polycrystalline with the co-existence of ferrihydrite and Fe3O4 through-out the growth.A growth model is further established,which provides rational explanations on the linear growth at the early stage and the nonlinearity at the later stage of growth.

香港九龙大坑东地下蓄水方案(Tai Hang tung Storage Scheme-THTSS)是香港西九龙渠道改善二期计划的一个重要组成部分,其目标是解决香港九龙繁华拥挤、人口稠密的商业中心旺角一带的洪水淹没问题。THTSS即是在经常洪水淹没区域(大坑东和界限街水渠交接处)上游足球场下面建立一个100 000 m3的地下蓄水池。本文建立了一个能处理明渠缓流和急流、封闭管道有压流、侧流堰和渠道汇合处过渡流于一体的一维水力数学模型,用1∶22正态物理模型恒定流下的结果进行验证。数值模型计算了在50年一遇暴雨下,非恒定洪水在不同的侧流堰方案下的流动过程。结合物理模型试验结果,选择最佳的地下蓄水方案。计算结果表明,大坑东地下蓄水方案确实能加强旺角地区地洪水控制能力,并能通过50年一遇暴雨的洪水。

AIM: To investigate the age differences in the risk factors, clinicopathological characteristics and patterns of treatment of female breast cancer patients. METHODS: Seven thousand one hundred and fiftytwo women with primary breast cancer from the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Registry were recruited after receiving patients' consent, they were asked to complete standardized questionnaires which captured their sociodemographic characteristics and risk factors associated with breast cancer development. Among them, clinicopathological data and patterns of treatment were further collected from medical records of 5523 patients with invasive breast cancers. Patients were divided into two groups according to the age at diagnosis: younger(< 40 years old) vs older patients(≥ 40 years old) for subsequent ***: Analysis on the sociodemographic characteristics and exposure to risk factors were performed on 7152 women with primary breast cancer and the results revealed that younger patients were more likely to have unhealthy lifestyles; these include a lack of exercise(85.4% vs 73.2%, P < 0.001), having high stress in life(46.1% vs 35.5%, P < 0.001), having dairy/meat-rich diets(20.2% vs 12.9%, P < 0.001),having alcohol drinking habit(7.7% vs 5.2%, P = 0.002). Younger patients were also more likely to have hormone-related risk factors including nulliparity(43.3% vs 17.8%, P < 0.001) and an early age at menarche(20.7% vs 13.2%, P < 0.001). Analyses on clinicopathological characteristics and patterns of treatment were performed on 5523 women diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. The invasive tumours in younger patients showed more aggressive pathological features such as having a higher percentage of grade 3 histology(45.7% vs 36.5%, P < 0.001), having a higher proportion of tumours with lymphovascular invasion(39.6% vs 33.2%, P = 0.003), and having multifocal disease(15.7% vs 10.3%, P < 0.001); they received different patterns of treatment than their older ***
