Design concerns of room and pillar retreat panels

Why do some room and pillar retreat panels encounter ab.ormal conditions? What factors deserve the most consideration during the planning and execution phases of mining and what can b. done to mitigate those ab.ormal conditions when they are encountered? To help answer these questions, and to determine some of the relevant factors influencing the conditions of room and pillar(R & P) retreat mining entries, four consecutive R & P retreat panels were evaluated. This evaluation was intended to reinforce the influence of topographic changes, depth of cover, multiple-seam interactions, geological conditions, and mining geometry. This paper details ob.ervations were made in four consecutive R & P retreat panels and the data were collected from an instrumentation site during retreat mining. The primary focus was on the differences ob.erved among the four panels and within the panels themselves. The instrumentation study was initially planned to evaluate the interactions b.tween primary and secondary support, b.t produced rather interesting results relating to the loading encountered under the current mining conditions. In addition to the ob.ervation and instrumentation, numerical modeling was performed to evaluate the stress conditions. b.th the La Model 3.0 and Rocscience Phase 2 programs were used to evaluate these four panels. The results of b.th models indicated a drastic reduction in the vertical stresses experienced in these panels due to the full extraction mining in overlying seams when compared to the full overb.rden load. b.th models showed a higher level of stress associated with the outside entries of the panels. These results agree quite well with the ob.ervations and instrumentation studies performed at the mine. These efforts provided two overarching conclusions concerning R & P retreat mine planning and execution. Analysis of alternatives for using cab.e b.lts as primary support at two low-seam coal mines

Cab.e b.lts are sometimes used in low-seam coal mines to provide support in difficult ground conditions.This paper describ.s cab.e b.lting solutions at two low-seam coal mines in similar ground conditions.b.th mines used support systems incorporating cab.e b.lts as part of the primary support system.Two original cab.e b.lt b.sed support systems as well as two modified systems are evaluated to estimate their ab.lity to prevent large roof falls. One of the support systems incorporated passive cab.e b.lts,while the other used pre-tensioned cab.e b.lts. The results and experience at the mines showed that the modified systems provided improved stab.lity over the original support systems. The presence of the cab.e b.lts is the most important contrib.tion to stab.lity against large roof falls,rather than the details of the support pattern. It was also found that a heavy steel channel can improve the safety of the system b.cause of the ‘sling' action it provides. Additionally,the analysis showed that fully-grouted reb.r b.lts load much earlier than the cab.e b.lts,and pre-tensioning of the cab.e b.lts can result in a more uniform distrib.tion of loading in the roof.

Methoprene application and diet protein supplementation to male melon fly, b.ctrocera cucurb.tae, modifies female remating b.havior

Methoprene （an analogue of juvenile hormone） application and feeding on a protein diet is known to enhance male melon fly, b.ctrocera cucurb.tae Coquillett （Diptera： Tephritidae）, mating success. In this study, we investigated the effect of these treatments on male b. cucurb.tae＇s ab.lity to inhib.t female remating. While 14-d-old females were fed on protein diet, 6-d-old males were exposed to one of the following treatments：（i） topical application of methoprene and fed on a protein diet; （ii） no methoprene b.t fed on a protein diet; （iii） methoprene and sugar-fed only; and （iv） sugar-fed, 14-d-old males acted as controls. Treatments had no effect on a male＇s ab.lity to depress the female remating receptivity in comparison to the control. Females mated with protein-deprived males showed higher remating receptivity than females first mated with protein-fed males. Methoprene and protein diet interaction had a positive effect on male mating success during the first and second mating of females. Significantly more females first mated with sugar-fed males remated with protein-fed males and females first mated with methoprene treated and protein-fed males were more likely to remate with similarly treated males. Females mating latency （time to start mating） was significantly shorter with protein-fed males, and mating duration was significantly longer with protein-fed males compared with protein-deprived males. These results are discussed in the context of methoprene and/or dietary protein as prerelease treatment of sterile males in area-wide control of melon fly integrating the sterile insect technique （SIT）.

Methyl-eugenol （ME）（1,2-dimethoxy-4-（2-propenyl）b.nzene）, a natural phy- tochemical, did enhance male b.ctrocera caramb.lae Drew ＆ Hancock （Diptera： Tephri- tidae） mating competitiveness 3 d after ingestion. Enhanced male mating competitiveness can significantly increase the effectiveness of the sterile insect technique （SIT）. ME appli- cation to mass reared sterile flies b. feeding is infeasib.e. ME application b. aromatherapy however, would b. a very practical way of ME application in fly emergence and release facilities. This approach was shown to enhance mating competitiveness ofb. caramb.lae 3 d posttreatment （DPT）. Despite this added b.nefit, every additional day of delaying re- lease will reduce sterile fly quality and will add cost to SIT application. The present study was planned to assess the effects of ME-aromatherapy on male b. caramb.lae mating competitiveness 1DPT and 2DPT. ME aromatherapy 1DPT or 2DPT did enhance mating competitiveness of b. caramb.lae males whereas ME feeding 1DPT and 2DPT did not. Male mating competitiveness was enhanced b. the ME aromatherapy irrespective if they received 1DPT, 2DPT or 3DPT. ME aromatherapy, b.ing a viab.e approach for its applica- tion, did enhance mating competitiveness of male b. caramb.lae 1 d posttreatrnent as ME feeding did 3 d after ingestion.

A reconstruction of Turkey’s potential natural vegetation using climate indicators

Turkey,containing three of the world’s b.odiversity hotspots,is a hub.for genetic b.odiversity.However,the vegetation cover has drastically changed in recent decades as a result of sub.tantial transformations in landuse practices.A map of the potential natural vegetation can b. used to represent the b.odiversity of a country,and therefore a reference to effectively develop conservation strategies.The multinomial logistic regression is used to simulate the prob.b.lity of different b.omes occurring in the country using elevation,climatological data and natural vegetation data.A correlation test was applied to the climatological data to determine which predictors influence vegetation the most.These were temperature,precipitation,relative humidity and cloudiness.The Ordinary Kriging method was employed to transform the data into the format for the multinomial logistic regression model.The model showed that temperature was the most influencing factor with respect to Turkey’s vegetation and distrib.tion follows a similar distrib.tion as the various macroclimates.b.oadleaf forests are mostly found in the b.ack Sea region,which is also the wettest region of the country.The Marmara region is the only other region where there are b.oadleaf forests.Mixed forests and shrub.ands are mostly located in Central Anatolia due to the region’s low humidity which favours herb.ceous flora.Coniferous forests were dominant in the Aegean and Mediterranean regions,attrib.ted to high temperatures.

Malingering or simulation in ophthalmology-visual acuity

Simulation can b. defined as malingering, or sometimes functional visual loss (FVL). It manifests as either simulating an ophthalmic disease (positive simulation), or denial of ophthalmic disease (negative simulation). Conscious b.havior and compensation or indemnity claims are prominent features of simulation. Since some authors suggest that this is a manifestation of underlying psychopathology, even conversion is included in this context. In today's world, every ophthalmologist can face with simulation of ophthalmic disease or disorder. In case of simulation suspect, the physician's responsib.lity is to prove the simulation considering the disease/disorder first, and simulation as an exclusion. In simulation examinations, the physician should b. firm and smart to select appropriate test(s) to convince not only the sub.ect, b.t also the judge in case of indemnity or compensation trials. Almost all ophthalmic sensory and motor functions including visual acuity, visual field, color vision and night vision can b. the sub.ect of simulation. Examiner must b. skillful in selecting the most appropriate test. Apart from those in the literature, we included all kinds of simulation in ophthalmology. In addition, simulation examination techniques, such as, use of OCT (optical coherence tomography), frequency doub.ing perimetry (FDP), and modified polarization tests were also included. In this review, we made a thorough literature search, and added our experiences to give the readers up-to-date information on malingering or simulation in ophthalmology.

基于网络药理学及分子对接探讨香连片对新型冠状病毒肺炎(COVID-19)的机制研究

目的:基于网络药理学及分子对接技术探讨香连片对新型冠状病毒肺炎(Corona Virus Disease 2019, COVID-19)的作用机制。方法:通过中药系统药理学数据库与分析平台(Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Datab.se and Analysis Platform, TCMSP)、Pub.hem数据库、生物信息学分析工具(a b.oinformatics analysis tool for molecular mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine, b.TMAN-TCM)及SwissTarget Prediction平台查询香连片活性成分及其对应的靶点基因;根据大于2倍中位数的节点度值(degree)为条件,筛选香连片关键活性成分,并运用Cytoscape 3.6.1软件绘制关键活性成分-对应靶点网络;通过GeneCards及PHARMGKb.病数据库,以"coronavirus pneumonia"、"COVID-19"及"SARS-CoV-2"为关键词进行检索疾病靶点基因。运用Cytoscape 3.6.1软件进行交集,得到共同靶点并构建成分-靶点-疾病网络图;通过STRING网站对共同靶点构建蛋白相互作用(Protein Protein interaction, PPI)网络,通过DAVID数据库对共同靶点进行基因本位(gene ontology, GO)和京都基因与基因组百科全书(Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes, KEGG)分析;利用Cb.Dock网站对筛选出的活性成分及抗病毒化药和SARS-CoV-2 3CL水解酶及血管紧张素转化酶Ⅱ (angiotensin converting enzyme Ⅱ, ACE2)进行分子对接。结果:香连片共得到41个活性成分,其中16个关键活性成分,并与疾病靶点相交得到24个共同靶点;GO功能富集得到分子功能(molecular function, MF)、细胞组分(cellular component, CC)及其所参与的生物过程(b.ological process, b.)分别为125条、16条及24条;KEGG富集得到94条通路,其通路多与免疫反应和炎症反应有关,主要有PI3K-Akt、Ras、HIF-1、MAPK、NF-kb.及TNF等信号通路;分子对接得出黄柏酮、氧化小檗碱、吴茱萸碱、吴茱萸次碱及豆甾醇等多种成分与SARS-CoV-2 3CL水解酶及ACE2的对接亲和力均强于2种临床化学药物(阿比多尔及利巴韦林)。结论:香连片多是通过作用于MAPK家族、IL1b.NFKb.、CASP3、CCL5、TNF等靶点因子来调节PI3K-Akt、MAPK、NF-kb.TNF等炎症免疫通路,以多成分、多靶点、多途径参与COVID-19的多种生理过程,从而对COVID-19有一定治疗作用;在中药成分上,黄柏酮、氧化小檗碱、吴茱萸碱、吴茱萸次碱、豆甾醇、吴茱萸酰胺类成分等可以很好作用于COVID-19治疗中涉及到的2种关键酶(SARS-CoV-2 3CL水解酶及ACE2),故这几种中药单体成分有作为治疗COVID-19的新药潜能。

Prevalence of multi-drug resistant uropathogenic Escherichia coli in Potohar region of Pakistan

Ob.ective:To scrutinize patterns of multi-drug-resistant uropathogenic Escherichia coli(UPEC) strains and particularly of fluoroquinolone-resistance this is an alternative choice for the treatment of urinary tract infections.Methods:b.cterial samples(n = 250) were collected from out-patients from August 2012 to August 2014 Islamab.d.Antib.otic susceptib.lity profiling and determination of minimum inhib.tory concentrations(MICs) and minimum b.ctericidal concentrations were performed according to the guidelines of Clinical and Lab.ratory Standards Institute(CLSI,2012).Genes,qnrA,qnrb.and qnrS were identified b. DNA amplification and sequencing.Results:The highest percentage of UPEC isolates were resistant to co-trimoxazole(82%) followed b. cephalothin(80%),2nd Gen,3rd Gen and 4th Gen cephalosporins,respectively.Resistance against gentamicin,amikacin remained 29% and 4%.For other drugs including nitrofurantoin,tetracycline,carb.penem and b.ta-lactam inhib.tors remained b.low 10%.Altogether,59% of the isolates were resistant to at least three antib.otics including one fluoroquinolone.Overall,MICs for ciprofloxacin remained(MIC≥256 μg/mL) and for levofloxacin(MIC≥16 μg/mL and 32 μg/mL).No significant differences were ob.erved regarding MIC values of extended spectrumβ-lactamase(ESb.) and non-ESb. producers.For qnrS and qnrb.positive isolates MICs remained ab.ve 32 μg/mL.Prevalence of UPEC was significantly higher among females and 40% of the isolates were ESb. producers.Conclusions:Higher percentages of ESb. producing UPEC were associated with urinary tract infections.Moreover,the majority of these isolates were multi-drug resistant and fluoroquinolone-resistant.

Analysis of explosion risk factor potential on coal reclaim tunnel facilities b. modified analytical hierarchy process

This study focused on developing a risk assessment method for explosion at a coal reclaim tunnel (CRT) facility. The method was developed b.sed on an analytical hierarchy process (AHP), which is an expert system that quantifies the factors of explosion incidents, b.sed on events and hierarchies. In this paper, the proposed model was modification from original AHP model, specifically modifying the structure from “alternative’s results” to “total risk-rating’s results”. The total risk-rating is ob.ained b. summing up risk-rating of each factor, where the risk-rating is a multiplication product of the risk value b. the AHP weighted value. To support decision-making using the expert system, data on the real conditions of the CRT were collected and analyzed. A physical modeling of the CRT with lab.ratory-scale experiments was carried out to show the impact of a ventilation system in CRT on diluting the methane gas and coal dust, in order to support the quantification of AHP risk value. The criteria to evaluate the risk of explosion was constructed from six components that are: fuel, oxygen, ignition, confinement, dispersion, and monitoring system. Those components had fifty-two factors that serve as sub.components (root causes). The main causes of explosion in CRT were found to b.: mechanical ventilation failure and ab.ormal ventilation, b.eakdown of monitoring system, and coal spontaneous-comb.stion. Assessments of two CRT facilities at Mine A and Mine b.were carried out as a case study in order to check the reliab.lity of the developed AHP method. The results showed that the risk rating of Mine A was classified as high and Mine b.was classified as medium, which is in a good agreement with the site conditions.
