Flood risk analysis is the instrument for local officials to create a sound strategy and adaptation plans for the impacts of inundation due to heavy rains, climate change and sea level rise. Hence, cities with aging infrastructure are retrofitting their stormwater management systems to mitigate the impacts. However determining the most at risk areas and the options for corrections is more challenging. As a result, there is an urgent need to develop a screening tool to analyze watersheds and identify the most at-risk areas. High-quality, open source data and sophisticated spatial analysis techniques allow engineers to create innovative ways to conduct watershed wide inundation analysis. In this study, the investigators developed a screening tool to identify at-risk properties by combining readily available data on topography, groundwater, surface water, tidal information for coastal communities, soils, open space, and rainfall data. Once the screening tool is developed, the means to identify and prioritize improvements to be funded with scarce capital funds is the next step. A tool box of solutions was developed to address flood risk and vulnerability. Testing of the screening tool was conducted in Broward County, Florida and shows encouraging results. Molar-tooth(MT) structure is an enigmatic sedimentary structure consisting of variously-shaped cracks and voids filled with a characteristically uniform,equant calcite *** is globally distributed but temporally restricted to rocks from Neoarchean to Neoproterozoic *** origin of MT structures has been debated for more than a century and the topic continues to be highly *** features of MT structure occurring in micritic limestones of the Mesoproterozoic Gaoyuzhuang Formation(ca.1500 Ma to ca.1400 Ma),Jixian section,Tianjin City,North China show that:1) there is a definite interface or lining,rich in organic material and pyrite,between the MT crack-filling calcite microspar and the micritic host rock,which is also rich in organic matter;2) the micritic host rocks are notable for the absence of stromatolites and microbial laminites;3) distinctive conglomeratic lag deposits made up of intraclasts of MT microspar result from storm reworking of the MT structures;4) the MT structure is associated with possible algal megafossils such as Chuaria;5) the MT microspar is made up of the larger calcite crystal and the MT crack is marked by the diversity of configurations;6) both the TOC content and the carbon-isotopic value(δ^(13)C_(PDB)) among the host rock, the MT microspar and the possible algae fossil are obviously *** the forming mechanism of the Gaoyuzhuang MT structure,these features can still indicate that:A) the MT microspar was formed by rapid precipitation and lithification;B) the MT microspar precipitated directly within the cracks; C) the decomposition of organic matter within the host micrite might be the chief mechanism producing gas bubbles;D) microscale gas-sediment interaction led to the generation of the MT cracks and the precipitation of microspar therein;E) the MT cracks might represent the track of migration and expansion of gas bubbles,and that the recrystallization of host micrites cannot be eliminated during forming proc

Sexual imprinting is a common mechanism of mate preference learning. It is thought to influence how traits evolve and in some cases to promote speciation. Recently there has been increasing interest in how sexual imprinting itself evolves. Theoretical work on polygynous mating systems predicts that females will evolve paternal imprinting, which means they learn to prefer phenotypes expressed by their fathers. In nature however, females of some species learn to prefer phenotypes expressed by their mothers instead. We used a dynamical systems model and tools from adaptive dynamics to study how sexual imprinting evolves in species with socially monogamous mating systems. We considered cases in which the target trait for imprinting is un- der viability selection but is not a reliable signal of paternal investment. Thus, the target trait signals the genetic benefits rather than the parental care benefits of mate choice. When mating is socially monogamous and there is some extra-pair patemity, we show that maternal imprinting can be favored over paternal imprinting. Counterintuitively, females often become choosier when selecting social partners in systems where extra-pair mating is more frequent. That is, females may be more selective when choosing social partners that will sire a smaller percentage of their offspring. Our results offer new testable hypotheses, and ad- vance our understanding of the mechanisms that drive the evolution of mate choice strategies in nature .

This paper presents a novel framework for IP Differentiated Services (DiffServ) over optical burst switching (OBS), namely, DS-OBS. The network architecture, functional model of edge nodes and core nodes, the control packet format, a novel burst assembly scheme at ingress nodes and scheduling algorithm of core nodes are presented. The basic idea is to apply DiffServ capable burst assembly at ingress nodes and perform different per hop behavior (PHB) electronic treatments for control packets of different QoS class services at core nodes. Simulation results show that the proposed schemes can provide the best differentiated service for expedited forwarding (EF), assured forwarding (AF) and best effort (BE) services in terms of end-to-end delay, throughput and IP packet loss probability. Growth inhibitory activity has proven important in Qiufeng×Baiyu and Qingsong×Haoyue silkworm larvae. The consumption of mulberry leaves was reduced in both silkworm races while Qiufeng×Baiyu larvae showed the higher reduction in leaf consumption. From the results obtained, it was revealed that even at low concentrations of 400 mg/L of either Cr(Ⅲ) or Cr(Ⅵ) ions, growth of Qiufeng × Baiyu and Qingsong × Haoyue was significantly depressed. Depression in relative growth index(RGI) and high death rate in both silkworm races indicated that the different concentrations of the two ions used caused their growth inhibitions. Through linear regression analysis, the EC 50 (concentration of the compound that caused 50% reduction) was interpolated for both tested compounds. EC 50 (mg/L) of Cr (Ⅲ) ions in Qiufeng × Baiyu and Qingsong × Haoyue were 800 and 600 respectively. EC 50 (mg/L) of Cr(Ⅵ) ions in Qiufeng × Baiyu and Qingsong × Haoyue was 600 and 316 respectively. According to the analysis of relative growth index, and an analysis of linear regression technique for measuring the growth of the silkworm races, it was indicated that the form of Cr affected growth rates, growth inhibition responses of the larvae, and toxicological effects. Thus, form and quantity of Cr accumulating in silkworms reared with contaminated leaves are likely to influence their population dynamics.

The maximum flooding event and condensed section are one hot subject in modern se-quence stratigraphy and cyclic stratigraphy. Condensed section (CS)is defined as very thinabyssal or bathyal facies stratigraphic unit, with extremely low rate of sedimentation andbroad extension at the maximum flooding age. It is an important indicator fordetermination of the maximum flooding event. In recent years, the coneeption ofcondensed section has been opened up in not only its formation depth but also thedistributive scope after the discovery of glauconitic CS in North China Platform inCambrian by the aothors, and the condensed section is defined as the low-rate marinestratigraphic unit formed at the maximum flooding stage. It is the key to age determinationand correlation of craton basinal sequence.
