Differentiated adenocarcinoma of the stomach is classified into gastric or intestinal phenotypes based on mucus expression. Recent advances in mucin histochemistry and immunohistochemistry have highlighted the importance of such a distinction, and it is important clinically to distinguish between gastricand intestinal-type differentiated adenocarcinoma. However, a clinical and pathological diagnosis of this type is often difficult in early gastric cancer because of histological similarities between a hyperplastic epithelium and lowgrade atypia. Furthermore, determining tumor margins is often difficult, even with extensive preoperative examination. It is therefore critical to consider these diagnostic difficulties and different biological behaviors with high malignant potential when treating patients with gastric-type differentiated adenocarcinoma.

· AIM: To compare the outcomes of dacryocystorhinostomy(DCR) using traditional Crawford tubes(TCT) and Crawford tubes with suture(CTS) in the lumen.· METHODS: Retrospective case series consisting of patients who underwent DCR between 2008 and 2013.·RESULTS: A total of 61 DCRs were performed on 50 patients. Patients who underwent DCR using CTS had higher rates of prolapse compared to the TCT group(50% vs 9.4%; P =0.003). Stent removal occurred earlier in patients who received CTS(3.3mo vs 5.1mo; P =0.004). Success rates were equivalent between the two groups(75% vs 81.1%; P =0.684).·CONCLUSION: CTS in the lumen increases the risk of prolapse, prompting earlier tube removal in patients following DCR for nasolacrimal duct obstruction(NLDO).Earlier removal of tubes does not appear to significantly decrease success rates.

Photoacoustic imaging using a closed photoacoustic cell and an open photoacoustic cell with gas- microphone detection scheme was described. R/G/B LED light sources were used for the closed photoacoustic (PA) cell configuration. The colored specimen enclosed in a PA cell was imaged with R/G/B color light sources, and an image restored from the inverted PA images was compared with the original image. For open cell configuration, an open PA cell using a spheroidal acoustic resonator was applied to measure the amount of large-sized colored specimens. A calibration curve for a food red dye was obtained that apparently showed the ability of the present scheme to measure as a spectroscopic measurement tool.

Electron transport layers （ETLs） in perovskite solar cells （PSCs） are a key factor to determine the photo- voltaic performance. Herein, we demonstrate preparation of ZnO/ZnS core-shell composites through di- rectly synthesizing ZnS on the ZnO nanoparticles in solution. We confirmed the formation of ZnO/ZnS core-shell composites by the uses of X-ray diffraction patterns and the Fourier transform infrared spec- troscopy. ZnO/ZnS composites exhibit much homogeneous surface morphology as compared with the bare ZnO as revealed in the scanning electronic microscopy. Moreover, the upper shift of conduction band level upon composition of the ZnO/ZnS film results in a better alignment of energy level, which facilitates cas- cade charge extraction and thus improves the current density of perovskite solar cell. The shift of conduc- tion band also improves the voltage of the PSCs. The photoluminescence （PL） spectroscopies measured in both steady and transient states were carried out to characterize the charge extraction at the interface between CH_3NH_3Pbl_3 and the electron transport layers of either ZnO or ZnO/ZnS composite. The ZnO/ZnS composite can more efficiently quench the PL signal of perovskite absorber than bare ZnO resulting in enhanced photocurrent generation in PSCs.

Intense phase-locked terahertz(THz)pulses are the bedrock of THz lightwave electronics,where the carrier field creates a transient bias to control electrons on sub-cycle time *** applications such as THz scanning tunnelling microscopy or electronic devices operating at optical clock rates call for ultimately short,almost unipolar waveforms,at megahertz(MHz)repetition ***,we present a flexible and scalable scheme for the generation of strong phase-locked THz pulses based on shift currents in type-ll-aligned epitaxial semiconductor *** measured THz waveforms exhibit only 0.45 optical cycles at their centre frequency within the full width at half maximum of the intensity envelope,peak fields above 1.1 kVcm^(-1) and spectral components up to the mid-infrared,at a repetition rate of 4 *** only positive half-cycle of this waveform exceeds all negative half-cycles by almost four times,which is unexpected from shift currents *** detailed analysis reveals that local charging dynamics induces the pronounced positive THz-emission peak as electrons and holes approach charge neutrality after separation by the optical pump pulse,also enabling ultrabroadband *** unipolar emitters mark a milestone for flexibly scalable,next-generation high-repetition-rate sources of intense and strongly asymmetric electric field transients.

AIM: To investigate the effects of hydrogen(H2) on Cu, Zn superoxide dismutase(SOD1) activation in a rat model of corneal alkali burn. METHODS: In each rat, one cornea was subjected to alkali exposure. Physiological saline(saline group) or H2-dissolved saline(H2 group) was instilled continuously on the cornea for 5 min before and after alkali exposure. Inflammatory cells, neovascularization, and cytoplasmic SOD1 levels were evaluated immunohistochemically in enucleated eyes from both groups. Three-dimensional ultrastructural tissue changes in the eyes were analyzed using low-vacuum scanning electron ***: The numbers of both inflammatory and vascular endothelial cells were significantly reduced in the corneas of the H2 group(P<0.01). Furthermore, H2 treatment increased both cytoplasmic SOD1 levels(P<0.01) and activity in corneal epithelial cells(P<0.01). Notably, the SOD1 activity level in the H2 group was approximately 2.5-fold greater than that in the saline ***: H2 treatment suppresses inflammation and neovascularization in the injured cornea and indirectly suppresses oxidative insult to the cornea by upregulating the SOD1 enzyme protein level and activity.

A Comparison of Reconstruction Algorithms Regarding Exposure Dose Reductions during Digital Breast Tomosynthesis

This study compared reconstruction algorithms [filtered back projection (FBP) and simultaneous iterative reconstruction technique (SIRT)] with respect to radiation doses and image quality and suggested the possibility of decreasing the exposure dose in digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT). These two existing algorithms were implemented using a DBT system and experimentally evaluated using contrast-detail (CD) phantom measurements, such as contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), root mean square error (RMSE), intensity profile, and artifact spread function (ASF), and the results obtained with FBP and SIRT were compared. The potential dose reduction, contrast improvement, quantum noise reduction, and artifact reduction in DBT were evaluated using different exposures and the two reconstruction techniques. The effectiveness of each technique for enhancing the visibility of a CD phantom was quantified with respect to CNR and RMSE, and artifact reduction was quantified with respect to the intensity profile and ASF. SIRT produced reconstructed images with CNR values indicative of high-contrast detection. Image error was smaller in the in-focus plane SIRT images, and artifacts were decreased in these images according to the determined intensity profiles and ASF. These results suggest that when using SIRT, the exposure dose could possibly be decreased to half.
