Clear cell carcinoma of salivary gland type presenting as an endotracheal polypoid tumor

A 66-year-old woman presented with a 2-year history of asthma has progression of dyspnea within a week, and a computed tomography (CT) revealed an endotracheal tumor at level of aortic arch. The resected tumor, measured by 18 × 12 × 10 mm, has histologically malignant features including frank invasion with desmoplastic stroma and foci of necrosis. Presence of glycogen and mucin was confirmed by periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) and diastase PAS staining. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were diffusely positive for cytokeratin (CK) 7 and AE1/3, focally positive for CK5/6 and CK14, but negative for CK20. Thyroid transcription factor-1 (TTF-1), Napsin A, and SP-A, indicating lung parenchymal origin were all negative. Other muscular markers, neuroendocrine markers, renal cell carcinoma markers, and markers related to perivascular epithelioid cell tumors were all negative. Postoperative systemic examination suggests no primary tumor outside the lung. The follow up was excellent being recurrence free for 14 months in spite of the positive surgical margin by the tumor cells. This is a first report ?of rare neoplasm, clear cell carcinoma of salivary gland type, presenting as an endotracheal mass.

Counter-Rotating Type Tidal Stream Power Unit Boarded on Pillar(Performances and Flow Conditions of Tandem Propellers)

The authors have invented the unique counter-rotating type tidal stream power unit composed of the tandem pro- peUers and the double rotational armature type peculiar generator without the traditional stator. The front and the rear propellers counter-drive the inner and the outer armatures of the peculiar generator, respectively. The unit has the fixftful advantages that not only the output is sufficiently higher without supplementary equipment such as a gearbox, but also the rotational moment hardly act on the pillar because the rotational torque of both propel- lers/armatures are counter-balanced in the unit. This paper discusses experimentally the performances of the power unit and the effects of the propeller rotation on the sea surface. The axial force acting on the pillar in- creases naturally with the increase of not only the stream velocity but also the drag of the tandem propellers. Be- sides, the force vertical to the stream also acts on the pillar, which is induced from the Karman vortex street and the dominant frequencies appear owing to the front and the rear propeller rotations. The propeller rotating in close to the sea surface brings the abnormal wave and the amplitude increases as the stream velocity is faster and/or the drag is stronger.

Up-grading of natural ilmenite ore by combining oxidation and acid leaching

Rutile （TiO2） is heavily used in pigments mid colormlts, mid the most abundmlt source of rutile is ilmeinte. Upon oxidation of ilmeinte, mtile cml be formed wiffl modest energy consumption; furfflermore, after leaching, only a few byproducts are formed. Unfortunate- ly, one drawback is file necessarily long oxidative process of typically used mefflods. In fflis study, we show fflat a fluidized bed reactor cml be used to oxidize ilmeinte ore to rapidly form ruffle mid pseudobrookite （Fe2TiOs） phases. Ilmeinte was oxidized wiffl 5vo1% 02 in Ar at temperatures of 1173 K or 1223 K mid subsequently leached using a diluted H2SO4 solution to dissolve file pseudobrookite phase. The effects of acid concentration, temperature, mid cooling rate after oxidation were investigated. We show fflat file ilmeinte was rapidly oxidized to form rutile mid pseudobrookite phases at 1173 mid 1223 K in a 5vo1% O2/95vo1% Ar environment wifflin 40 min. The fmal maximum mtile yield was 84.2mo1% after leaching in （1 ＋ 1） H2SO4 solution at 393 K for 12 h.

Monthly Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite(VIIRS)Day-Night Band(DNB)composite data are widely used in research,such as estimations of socioeconomic ***,some surface conditions affect the VIIRS DNB radiance,which may create some estimation bias in certain *** this paper,we propose a novel normalization algorithm for VIIRS DNB monthly composite *** aim is to normalize VIIRS radiance,collected under different surface conditions,to a reference point,so that the bias is *** algorithm is based on the utilization of stable lit pixels as a reference and a nonlinear regression algorithm,to match un-normalized data to the reference *** results show that the algorithm could improve correlation(R2)between the total sum of nightlights(TOL),electric power consumption(EPC),and gross domestic product(GDP)at both a global and local *** algorithm could significantly diminish the seasonal component of un-normalized nightlights radiance caused by *** intensified nightlights radiance in sandy regions could also be reduced to a more reasonable range in comparison with other *** inspection shows that the brightness of snow-affected and sandy regions was strongly reduced after undergoing normalization.

Preparation of Fe-Al Binary System Intermetallic Compounds by Multi-Layered Roll-Bonding

Iron aluminides exhibit good resistance to high-temperature sulfidizing and oxidizing environments and potential for structural applications at high temperatures under corrosive environments. In this study, Fe-Al intermetallic compound was prepared by multi-layered roll-bonding of elemental Fe and Al foils. The process consisted of the accumulative roll-bonding (ARE) for making a laminated Fe/Al sheet and the subsequent heat treatment promoting a solid phase reaction in the laminated Fe/Al sheet. The microstructures produced at each processing stage were characterized by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Vickers microhardness testing was used for hardness determination. A homogeneous intermetallic compound of Fe3Al or FeAl could be obtained after the subsequent heat treatment for 1.8 ks at 973 K and for 10.8 ks at 1123 or 1173 K.

Phase Behavior and Crystal Structure of Perovskite-Type Rare Earth Complex Oxides

Several compounds of rare earth complex oxides containing manganese and titanium were synthesized in Ar, and their crystal structures were analyzed by powder X-ray diffraction data and Rietveld method. Structures of A0.67Ln0.33 Mn0.33Ti0.6703（A = Ca or Sr and Ln = rare earth） were found to have orthorhombic symmetry with the space group Pnrna, and their interatomic distances and bond angles were obtained. This space group was also derived from electron microscopic study. Electrical conductivity of Cao.67Ln0.33Mn0.33Ti0.6703 for several rare earth elements showed a semiconducting property with the activation energy of 0.4 eV. Some of these compounds of the strontium system show the antiferromagnetic properties below 10 K.

Neoadjuvant hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy for resectable hepatocellular carcinomas

Aim: To evaluate the effect of neoadjuvant hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) on the survival of patients with resectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods: Between January 2003 and January 2014, 80 patients underwent hepatic resection for HCC. Of these patients, we evaluated 49 patients who met the following inclusion criteria: (1) preserved liver function (Child-Pugh A);(2) resectable HCC (≤ 3 nodules, regardless of the size);and (3) HCC with high-grade malignant potential. Among them, 13 patients underwent neoadjuvant HAIC and curative hepatectomy (treatment group). The remaining 36 patients underwent curative hepatic resection without neoadjuvant therapy (control group). Survival after hepatic resection was compared retrospectively between the groups. Results: During follow-up, 2 (15.4%) patients in the treatment group and 25 (69.4%) patients in the control group developed recurrence. The 1-, 3-, and 5-year disease-free rates (100%, 78.6%, and 78.6%, respectivelyvs. 65.8%, 33.7%, and 26.6%, respectively;P = 0.003) and overall survival rates (100%, 100%, and 100%, respectively vs. 91.7%, 77.8%, and 55.3%, respectively;P = 0.037) were significantly better in the treatment group than in the control group. Conclusion: Neoadjuvant HAIC decreased the risk of recurrence and improved survival in patients with HCC with high malignant potential.

Radiofrequency ablation as treatment for pulmonary metastasis of colorectal cancer

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) causes focal coagulation necrosis in tissue. Its first clinical application was reported in 2000, and RFA has since been commonly used in both primary and metastatic lung cancer. The procedure is typically performed using computed tomography guidance, and the techniques for introducing the electrode to the tumor are simple and resemble those used in percutaneous lung biopsy. The most common complication is pneumothorax, which occurs in up to 50% of procedures; chest tube placement for pneumothorax is required in up to 25% of procedures. Other severe complications, such as pleural effusion requiring chest tube placement, infection, and nerve injury, are rare. The local efficacy depends on tumor size, and local progression after RFA is not rare, occurring in 10% or more of patients. The local progression rate is particularly high for tumors > 3 cm. Repeat RFA may be used to treat local progression. Short- to mid-term survival after RFA appears promising and is approximately 85%-95% at 1 year and 45%-55% at 3 years. Long-term survival data are sparse. Better survival may be expected for patients with small metastasis, low carcinoembryonic antigen levels, and/or no extrapulmonary metastasis. The notable advantages of RFA are that it is simple and minimally invasive; preserves pulmonary function; can be repeated; and is applicable regardless of previous treatments. Its most substantial limitation is limited local efficacy. Although surgery is still the method of choice for treatment with curative intent, the ultimate application of RFA may be to replace metastasectomy for small metastases. Randomized trials comparing RFA with surgery are needed.

Jurassic-Cretaceous Boundary Strata of the Somanakamura Group in NE Japan and their Correlation with Coeval Terrestrial Deposits in China

Defining the Jurassic-Cretaceous boundary is a controversy in stratigraphic study of the world. It has been widely accepted that this boundary can be defined at the bottom of Berriasian in Tetbys, with the appearance of the ammonite Berriasellajacobi dating to ca. 145 Ma. However, it is difficult for the widespread terrestrial deposits in China to correlate with the international standard of marine facies. The Somanakamura Group in Japan is represented by a succession of marinecontinental transitional strata. It provides a bridge of marine and nonmarine stratigraphic correlation. The ammonite and radiolarian fossils preserved in this group suggest an age from Bajocian to early Valanginian. The J-K boundary was defined in or atop the Tomizawa Formation of the group according to the ammonite data. The present authors study the fossil spores and pollen newly found from the Tomizawa and Koyamada formations. Three assemblages have been recognized. They are Assemblage 1 （Cyathidites-Classopollis） from the upper part of the Tomizawa Formation, Assemblage 2 （Cyathidites-Jiaohepollis） from the lower part of the Koyamada Formation, and Assemblage 3 （Cyathidites-Spheripollenites-Ephedripites） from the middle to upper part of the Koyamada Formation. With the reference of ammonite evidence, the J-K boundary can be defined between Assemblage 1 and Assemblage 2. This palynological J-K boundary can be correlated with that of terrestrial sequence in China. However, local biostratigraphy imply that the continental J-K boundary in China is of 135 or 137 Ma age. It has a considerable discrepancy from the marine standard. Biogeographically, the distribution pattern of spores and pollen in southern China is in accordance with that in the Somanakamura Group, which parallels the Tuchengzi Formation in northeastern China. WRF Environment Assessment in Guangzhou City with an Extracted Land-use Map from the Remote Sensing Data in 2000 as an Example

Mesoscale urban environment forecast combined with WRF is a current frontier in international academic. Taking Guangzhou as an example,the new land-use model presented by the present authors,the existing USGS and MODIS models in WRF were firstly compared to the remote sensing model in this *** comparison result shows that the land-use model presented by the authors has the highest similarity with the remote sensing data. Secondly,the new land-use model was used to replace the defaulted land-use data in WRF for simulation. By comparing this simulation results with the WRF results using the defaulted USGS and MODIS model,it was showed that the geographic models have a great impact on the mesoscale environment forecast result. Also,the geographic information model presented in this article shows the best accuracy when comparing with the observation data. Results in this study are going to be an important reference in the contemporary international forefront of mesoscale urban environment studies by WRF.
