Benign nontraumatic inflammatory stricture of the common bile duct (CBD) may result in obstructive jaundice, which can be misdiagnosed as a malignant tumor of the CBD preoperatively. Two cases with strictures of the mid portion of the common bile duct presenting with obstructive jaundice are reported herein. Preoperative radiological studies prompted us to confidently make the diagnosis of cholangiocarcinoma. However, the postoperative diagnosis on histological examination of the resected lesions was chronic inflammation and fibrosis. The complications of chronic duodenal ulcer are considered as the etiology of these two disorders.

在“人-机-物”三元融合、泛在计算的时代蓝海下,“开放多变”“需求多样”和“场景复杂”的软件部署和运行环境对开源软件库生态的治理技术提出了更多需求和更高期望.为进一步推动构建可信软件供应链生态,围绕泛在计算模式、打造自主可控的技术体系,聚焦于开源软件库管理生态,收集近20多年来(2001–2023)发表于软件工程领域较高影响力的学术期刊和会议的348篇论文,对开源软件库生态治理技术的研究工作进行梳理.讨论开源软件库生态的建模与分析、演化与维护、质量保证和管理等方面的工作,总结研究现状、问题、挑战与趋势.

Protecting and preserving our environmental systems require the ability to understand the spatio-temporal distri- bution of soils, parent material, topography, and land cover as well as the effects of human activities on ecosystems. Space-time modelling of ecosystems in an environmental digital library is essential for visualizing past, present, and future impacts of changes occurring within such landscapes (e.g., shift in land use practices). In this paper, we describe three novel features, spa- tio-temporal indexing, visualization, and geostatistical genre, for the environmental digital library, Environmental Visualization and Geographic Enterprise System (ENVISAGE), currently in progress at the University of Florida.

Novel therapeutic targets for pancreatic cancer

Pancreatic cancer has become the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the last two decades. Only 3%-15% of patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer had 5 year survival rate. Drug resistance, high metastasis, poor prognosis and tumour relapse contributed to the malignancies and difficulties in treating pancreatic cancer. The current standard chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer is gemcitabine, however its efficacy is far from satisfactory, one of the reasons is due to the complex tumour microenvironment which decreases effective drug delivery to target cancer cell. Studies of the molecular pathology of pancreatic cancer have revealed that activation of KRAS, overexpression of cyclooxygenase-2, inactivation of p16INK4A and loss of p53 activities occurred in pancreatic cancer. Co-administration of gemcitabine and targeting the molecular pathological events happened in pancreatic cancer has brought an enhanced therapeutic effectiveness of gemcitabine. Therefore, studies looking for novel targets in hindering pancreatic tumour growth are emerging rapidly. In order to give a better understanding of the current findings and to seek the direction in future pancreatic cancer research; in this review we will focus on targets suppressing tumour metastatsis and progression, KRAS activated downstream effectors, the relationship of Notch signaling and Nodal/Activin signaling with pancreatic cancer cells, the current findings of non-coding RNAs in inhibiting pancreatic cancer cell proliferation, brief discussion in transcription remodeling by epigenetic modifiers (e.g., HDAC, BMI1, EZH2) and the plausible therapeutic applications of cancer stem cell and hyaluronan in tumour environment.

Spirulina platensis exposed to various selenium （Se） concentrations （0, 10, 20, 40, 80, 150, 175, 200, 250 mg/L） accumulated high amounts of Se in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Under low Se concentrations （〈150 mg/L）, Se induced increases in biomass concentration, content of photosynthetic pigments, and activities of glutathione peroxidase （GPX）, superoxide dismutase （SOD）, catalase （CAT） and Gua-dep peroxidases （POD）, which indicates that antioxidant enzymes play an important role in protecting cells from Se stress. Higher Se concentrations （≥175 mg/L） led to higher Se accumulation and increases in activities of GPX, SOD, CAT and POD, but also induced lipid peroxidation （LPO） coupled with potassium leakage and decreases in biomass concentration and contents of photosynthetic pigment. The results indicate that increases in activities of the antioxidant enzymes were not sufficient to protect cell membranes against Se stress. Time-dependent variations in the activities of antioxidant enzymes, contents of chlorophyll a and carotenoid and the LPO level were also investigated under representative Se concentrations of 40 and 200mg/L. Opposite variation trends between SOD-CAT activities, and GPX-POD-APX activities were observed during the growth cycles. The results showed that the prevention of damage to cell membranes of S. platensis cells could be achieved by cooperative effects of SOD-CAT and GPX-POD-APX enzymes. This study concludes that S. platensis possessed tolerance to Se and could protect itself from phytotoxicity induced by Se by altering various metabolic processes.

The spatial distribution of electromagnetic fields emitted from the aperture tip of a scanning near-field optical microscope(SNOM), which is called the emission pattern, depends on the geometry of the apex and the material composition of the tip’s coating. In previous works, experimental measurements of the emission pattern from the aperture tip were performed mostly in the far field. Moreover, the corresponding theoretical models were also developed based on these far-field measurements. Here, we have used the automated dual-tip SNOM to systematically characterize the emission from the aperture tip in the near field. In this regard, we have considered three different pairs of excitation and detection tips with distinct geometries. The emission patterns of the excitation tips were mapped using detection tips. Unidirectional surface plasmon polaritons(SPPs) at the surface of a gold platelet were launched by an excitation tip and measured in the near field by the detection tip. The experimental results were numerically reproduced by means of the Bethe–Bouwkamp model. This work puts into evidence the applicability of the automated dual-tip SNOM as the only available characterization technique to measure the emission from aperture tips in the near field. The reported asymmetric SPP radiation patterns can find applications in photonic integrated circuits or in biological and chemical sensing.

Background and purpose NOTCH3 p.R544C mutation accounts for 5%of spontaneous intracerebral haemorrhage(ICH)in East Asian *** investigated whether certain CT features are associated with NOTCH3-related *** Patients with spontaneous ICH from a prospective stroke registry were screened for NOTCH3 p.R544C *** neuroimaging features on the initial non-contrast CT scans selected to predict NOTCH3 p.R544C mutation,including burden of white matter lesion(WML),degree of brain atrophy,number of lacunes,prominent juxtacortical WML and prominent lobar lacunes,were analysed by neuroradiologists blinded to the mutation *** Of 299 patients with spontaneous ICH(mean age,61 years;male,68%;ICH volumes,14.1±17.8 mL),13 patients(4.3%)carried NOTCH3 p.R544C *** clinical features,haematoma size and location were similar between NOTCH3 p.R544C mutation carriers and *** CT scan revealed that patients with NOTCH3 p.R544C mutation had more severe WML and more frequently had prominent juxtacortical WML(69.2%vs 17.8%,p<0.001),and the effects were not driven by ageing as seen in patients without *** juxtacortical WML(area under receiver operating characteristic curve=0.76)outperformed the total WML score and prominent lobar lacunes and significantly predicted NOTCH3 p.R544C mutation in a multivariable-adjusted model(OR,20.9;95%CI 4.94 to 88.6).Conclusion In patients with spontaneous ICH,the severity and topographic distribution of WML can help in identifying potential NOTCH3 mutation-related ICH.
