Mechanistic insight into cr(Ⅵ)retention by Si-containing ferrihydrite

Hexavalent chromium[cr(Ⅵ)]causes serious harm to the environment due to its high toxicity,solubility,and ***(Fh)are the main adsorbent and trapping agent of cr(Ⅵ)in soils and aquifers,and they usually coexist with silicate(Si),forming Si-containing ferrihydrite(Si-Fh)***,the mechanism of cr(Ⅵ)retention by Si-Fh mixtures is poorly *** this study,the behaviors and mechanisms of cr(Ⅵ)adsorption onto Si-Fh with different Si/Fe molar ratios was *** electron microscope,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,X-ray diffraction,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,and other techniques were used to characterize Si-Fh and cr(Ⅵ)-loading of *** results show that specific surface area of Si-Fh increases gradually with increasing Si/Fe ratios,but cr(Ⅵ)adsorption on Si-Fh decreases with increasing Si/Fe *** is because with an increase in Si/Fe molar ratio,the point of zero charge of Si-Fh gradually decreases and electrostatic repulsion between Si-Fh and cr(Ⅵ)***,the complexation of cr(Ⅵ)is enhanced due to the increase in adsorbed hydroxyl(A-OH-)on Si-Fh with increasing Si/Fe molar ratio,which partly counteracts the effect of the electrostatic ***,the increase in the electrostatic repulsion has a greater impact on adsorption than the additional complexation with *** functional theory calculation further supports this observation,showing the increases in electron variation of bonding atoms and reaction energies of inner spherical complexes with the increase in Si/Fe ratio.

This paper describes how to produce a wearable dry electrode at a reasonable cost and how to use it for the monitoring of biopotentials in *** textiles in wearable technologies have made a great advancement in the health care management and living standards of *** was manufactured using the low-cost single-step process,laser ablation of polyimide,a commercial *** dispersions were made using solvent isopropyl alcohol which has low boiling point,nontoxicity,and environmental *** successive coating of the graphene dispersion on the cotton fabric to make it conductive,the sheet resistance of the resulting fabric dropped to 3% of its initial *** laser-induced graphene(LIg.c.tton dry electrodes thus manufactured are comparable to Ag/Agcl wet electrodes in terms of the skin-to-electrode impedance,measuring between 78.0 and 7.2 kΩ for the frequency between 40 Hz and 1 *** LIg.c.tton electrode displayed a signal-to-noise ratio of 20.17 *** to its comfort,simplicity,and good performance over a longer period of time,the textile electrode appears suited for medical applications.

Spatial distributions of soil nutrients affected by land use,topography and their interactions,in the Loess Plateau of china

Soil nutrient availability and their spatial distributions are strongly related to land use and landscape *** study aims to address the knowledge gap regarding the interaction between these factors and the underlying *** selected five land uses(grassland with Artemisia gmelinii,woodland with Robinia pseudoacacia,shrubland with caragana korshinskii and Hippophae rhamnoides,and apple orchard with Malus pumila)and nine slope positions across hillslopes in the Loess Plateau,china,to investigate their combined effects on the contents and stocks of soil organic carbon(SOc),total nitrogen(TN)and total phosphorus(TP).Parametric and non-parametric statistical tests were conducted to determine the significant differences in the means or the medians of the soil nutrient *** showed that the SOc and TN contents of shrubland with caragana korshinskii were statistically significantly greater than those of the grassland(pc and TN contents generally decreased from the upper slope to the middle slope,and to the foot slope for the grassland,woodland and shrublands,and on the contrary,an increasing trend from the upper slope,to the middle slope,and to the foot slope was identified for the apple *** study highlights that land use,slope position and their interaction have significant effects on the spatial distributions of soil *** provides essential empirical evidence for the identification of the optimal vegetation type and slope positions in land management and vegetation restoration activities.

gymnolaemata bryozoans produce cacO3 skeletons of either calcite,aragonite,or *** extensive research,their crystallography and biomineralization patterns remain *** present a detailed study of the microstructures,min-eralogy,and crystallography of eight extant cheilostome species using scanning electron microscopy,electron backscatter diffraction,atomic force microscopy,and micro-computed *** distinguished five basic microstructures,three calcitic(tabular,irregularly platy,and granular),and two aragonitic(granular-platy and fibrous).The calcitic microstruc-tures consist of crystal aggregates that transition from tabular or irregularly platy to granular *** aragonite consists of fibers arranged into *** all cases,the crystallographic textures are axial,and stronger in aragonite than in calcite,with the c-axis as the fiber *** reconstruct the biomineralization sequence in the different species by considering the distribution and morphology of the growth fronts of crystals and the location of the secretory *** bimineralic species,calcite formation always predates aragonite *** interior compound walls,growth proceeds from the cuticle toward the zooecium *** conclude that,with the exception of tabular calcite,biomineralization is remote and occurs within a relatively wide extrapallial space,which is consistent with the inorganic-like appearance of the *** biomineralization mode is rare among invertebrates.

Topolog.c.l materials, which feature robust surface and/or edge states, have now been a research focus in condensed maTher physics. They represent a new class of materials exhibiting nontrivial topolog.c.l phases,and provide a platform for exploring exotic transport phenomena, such as the quantum anomalous Hall effect and the quantum spin Hall effect. Recently, magnetic topolog.c.l materials have attracted considerable interests due to the possibility to study the interplay between topolog.c.l and magnetic *** particular, the quantum anomalous Hall and axion insulator phases can be realized in topolog.c.l insulators with magnetic order. MnBi2Te4, as the first intrinsic antiferromagnetic topolog.c.l insulator discovered, allows the examination of existing theoretical predictions; it has been extensively studied, and many new discoveries have been made. Here we review the progress made on MnBi2Te4from both experimental and theoretical aspects. The bulk crystal and magnetic structures are surveyed first, followed by a review of theoretical calculations and experimental probes on the band structure and surface states, and a discussion of various exotic phases that can be realized in MnBi2Te4. The properties of MnBi2Te4thin films and the corresponding transport studies are then reviewed, with an emphasis on the edge state transport. Possible future research directions in this field are also discussed.

Empowering Rice Farmers in Nueva Ecija, Philippines: A Strateg.c.Approach to Boosting Income through Special Purpose Rice Production

Low income is the main problem of millions of farmers who are cultivating 4.81 million hectares in the Philippines. This problem is attributed to challenges specifically low yield, low quality of produce, and significant post-harvest losses, particularly in a resource-scarce setting. This study aimed to help increase the farmers’ income in selected towns of Nueva Ecija through the promotion and use of special purpose rice production technology. Twenty (20) farmer-cooperators in three towns of Nueva Ecija were selected to demonstrate the production technology covering a total area of 4.75 hectares during the dry season, and 3.3 hectares during the wet season, both in 2023. Extension modalities such as training, techno-demo establishment, information material and technical assistance provision, and market linkage were undertaken to enhance their knowledge, attitude, and skills on special rice production and enterprise. The study utilized the descriptive quantitative method wherein the data were gathered through surveys, specifically personal interviews. Results showed that 70% of the farmer-cooperators were male and 60% were living below the poverty threshold. The farmers were 53 years old on average and engaged in farming as their primary source of income. The average yield of special purpose rice particularly the cLS-2 variety was higher (6.46 MT/ha and 6.22 MT/ha during dry and wet seasons, respectively) than that of inbred or non-special rice. The income per hectare from special purpose rice production per hectare was Php 75,420.00, which is higher than that of regular rice at Php 29,389.00, giving a higher benefit of Php 46,031.00. The technology adopters and area planted increased (from 6 to 9 and from 1.4 hectares to 2.75 hectares, respectively) in Licab, Nueva Ecija. The opposite was true in Sto. Domingo and guimba, Nueva Ecija where farmers were discouraged by the marketing issues that arose.

In this paper,we propose a doping approach to lower the error floor of Low-Density Parity-check(LDPc)*** doping.c.mponent is a short block code in which the information bits are selected from the coded bits of the dominant trapping sets of the LDPc ***,an algorithm for selecting the information bits of the short code is proposed,and a specific two-stage decoding algorithm is *** results demonstrate that the proposed doped LDPc code achieves up to 2.0 dB gain compared with the original LDPc code at a frame error rate of 10^(-6)Furthermore,the proposed design can lower the error floor of original LDPc codes.
