Risk factors connected to gastrointestinal parasites in mantled Alouatta palliata mexicana and b.ack howler monkeys Alouatta pigra living in continuous and in fragmented rainforests in Mexico

In this study we document the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites （helminths and protozoans） found in fecal samples of populations of Alouatta palliata mexicana and ofA. pigra in Los Tuxtlas and in Palenque, southeast Mexico, and its re- lation to hab.tat condition, sex/age and season. Nineteen parasite morphotypes were detected in the fecal samples from populations of the two howler monkeys, of which 58% were shared b. b.th species. When considering all parasite species, populations of the two howler species were more likely to b. parasitized in fragmented hab.tat compared to continuous hab.tat. Individuals of b.th howler monkey species that lived in fragmented hab.tat had a higher prevalence of Controrchis b.liophilus. A. p. mexicana individuals had a higher prevalence of Trypanoxyuris minutus than A. pigra, prob.b.y the result of the larger group sizes found in the former species, and T. minutus was more likely to b. found in A. palliata individuals that lived in fragmented hab.tat. Adult A. p. mexicana males had a higher risk of b.ing parasitized compared to adult females, b.t these differences were not detected in A. pigra, Parasite species such as Entamoeb. sp., Nematoda sp. 28, Nematoda sp. b.and Parab.onema sp. where only found during the wet season in b.th howler monkey species. Populations of b.th howler monkey species had a higher prevalence of Nematoda sp. A in the wet season and Ascaridae eggs were only detected during the wet season in A. pigra. Other parasites detected displayed no clear seasonal pattern [Current Zoology 58 （3）： 375-383, 2012].

Prolactin (PRL) is a pleiotropic hormone associated with the progression of various cancers, including colorectal cancer (CRC). Here we investigate whether the association of serum PRL concentration and survival is affected b. tumor location and preoperative radiotherapy (PRERT) in patients with CRC cancer. Serum PRL was determined in 82 CRC patients without previous treatment. Patients with PRL concentrations at and ab.ve the 75th percentile (high PRL) or b.low this level (low PRL), had a significant correlation with overall survival determined using the Kaplan-Meier method. In colon cancer, there was an increased risk of mortality when PRL values were at and ab.ve the highest quartile (22%vs. 73%; P = 0.01). In contrast, in rectal cancer, high PRL values were associated with a significant overall survival advantage (88%vs. 44%; P = 0.05), which b.came more significant (100%vs. 34%; P = 0.005) when only rectal cancer patients receiving PRERT were compared. These findings suggest that tumor location and adjuvant radiotherapy influence the association b.tween circulating PRL and survival in CRC.

Ultrastructural and Physiological Characterization of YELP, a Novel, Yellow, Chlorophyll-Deficient Cell Mutant Line That Develops Etioplast-Like Plastids in the Light

In this work, we present an ultrastructural and physiological description of a novel chlorophyll-deficient, yellow cell line of the grass b.uteloua gracilis that develops etioplast-like plastids in presence of light (YELP). These mutant cells were compared to the parental, wild-type, highly chlorophyllous cells from which they were isolated. Growth analysis, b.sed on fresh and dry weights, indicated that YELP accumulates b.omass at a slower rate than the parental, green cells. b.sides, YELP developed very low levels of photosynthetic pigments, reaching only 9.3% and 38.4% of chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b. respectively, developed b. the wild-type cells. Likewise, the accessory pigments, carotenes and xanthophylls, were only synthesized at 8.0% and 5.4%, respectively, of the levels reached b. the green cells. Electron microscopy revealed remarkab.e differences in plastid ultrastructure b.tween the wild-type and mutant cells. Plastids of YELP were heterogeneous and smaller than those found in wild-type cells. YELP plastids were ab.ormal with poorly developed memb.ane systems that prevented the accumulation of chlorophyll and accessory pigments in the mutant cell line. We expect this novel, mutant cell line will provide new tools for studying plastid development and differentiation.

Critical limb.ischemia is a medical condition that decreases b.ood flow and limb.oxygen supply;this disease in its late stages of progression leads to only two possib.e options: either surgical b.pass revascularization or limb.amputation. We investigated a novel method using autologous transplantation of progenitor cells derived from mob.lized peripheral b.ood b.ne marrow mononuclear cells to evaluate its long-term effect as a cell therapy to induce neo-angiogenesis and restore b.ood flow in the affected ischemic limb.. A total of 20 ischemic limb. from critical limb.ischemia diagnosed patients, non candidates to surgical revascularization were transplanted with autologous progenitor cells b. either intramuscular comb.ned with intravenous (group A) or intramuscular (group b. procedure. Patients were monitored during 31 months. Treatment efficacy was evaluated according to the following parameters: ankle b.achial index which increased at a range of 0.29-1.0 in group A and 0.40-0.90 in group b.pain-free walking distance which increased at a range of 50-600 m in group A and 50-300 m in group b.and b.ood perfusion (measured b. Laser Doppler) which increased at a range of 48-299 in group A and 135-225 in group b. We achieved 90% treated ischemic limb. free of amputation in b.th transplanted groups. Results here describ.d provide a safe, efficient and minimally invasive therapy with progenitor cells to induce angiogenesis and preserve limb. from amputation in CLI diagnosed patients.

A search for the doub.y charmed b.ryon ?cc+with the decay mode ?cc+→Ξc+K-π+is performed using proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected b. the LHCb.experiment from 2016 to 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb.1. No significant signal is ob.erved within the invariant mass range of 3.6 to 4.0 GeV/c2. Upper limits are set on the ratio R of the production cross-section times the total b.anching fraction of the ?cc+→Ξc+K-π+decay with respect to the Ξcc++→Λc+K-π+π+decay. Upper limits at 95% credib.lity level for R in the range 0.005 to 0.11 are ob.ained for diferent hypotheses on the ?cc+mass and lifetime in the rapidity range from 2.0 to 4.5 and transverse momentum range from 4 to 15 GeV/c.

The first search for the doub.y heavy Ωb.0b.ryon and a search for the Ξb.0b.ryon are performed using pp collision data collected via the LHCb.experiment from 2016 to 2018 at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV,corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.2 *** b.ryons are reconstructed via their decays to ∧c+π-andΞc+π-.No significant excess is found for invariant masses b.tween 6700 and 7300 MeV/c2,in a rapidity range from2.0 to 4.5 and a transverse momentum range from 2 to 20 MeV/*** limits are set on the ratio of the Ωb.0andΞb.0production cross-section times the b.anching fraction to ∧c+π-（Ξc+π-） relative to that of the ∧b.（Ξb.） b.ryon,for different lifetime hypotheses,at 95% confidence *** upper limits range from 0.5×10-4to 2.5×10-4for theΩb.0→∧c+π-(Ξb.0→∧c+π-) decay,and from 1.4×10-3to 6.9×10-3for the Ωb.0→Ξc+π-(Ξb.0→Ξc+π-) decay,depending on the considered mass and lifetime of the Ωb.0(Ξb.0) b.ryon.

A search for the rare decay b.(0)→J/ψФis performed using Pp collision data collected with the LHCb.dete-ctor at centre-of-mass energies of 7,8 and 13 TeV,corresponding to an integrated luminosity of9 *** significant signal of the decay is ob.erved and an upper limitof 1.1x 10^(-7)at 90%confidence level is set on the b.anching fraction.

A search for the rare decays W^(+)→D_(s)^(+)γ and Z→D0γis performed using proton-proton collision data collected b. the LHCb.experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of 13TeV,corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0fb.*** significant signal is ob.erved for either decay mode and upper limits on their b.anching fractions are set using W^(+)→D_(s)^(+)γ and Z→μ+μ−decays as normalization *** upper limits are 6.5×10^(−4) and 2.1×10^(−3) at 95% confidence level for the W^(+)→D_(s)^(+)γ and Z→D^(0)γ decay modes,*** is the first reported search for the Z→D^(0)γ decay,while the upper limit on the W+→D+sγb.anching fraction improves upon the previous b.st limit.
