Polio eradication surveillance in Sri Lanka,2019-2023

Objective:To evaluate the polio laboratory surveillance carried out from January,2019 to May,2023 by the Polio Regional Reference Laboratory,Sri ***:this retrospective study analyzed all stool samples received under the acute flaccid paralysis(AFP)and immunodeficient vaccine-derived poliovirus(vDPv)surveillance at Polio Regional Reference Laboratory,Sri Lanka from January,2019 to May,*** results of the testing methodologies were extracted from the laboratory data system,i.e.,poliovirus virus isolation,intra-typic differentiation/vDPv real time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction(iTD/vDPv rRTPCR)and sequencing,along with the data on timing of reporting results,stool adequacy and *** was analyzed using descriptive ***:A total of 2141 stool samples from 1644 cases were received for AFP surveillance from Sri Lanka(93.61%),Maldives(1.52%),and immunodeficient vDPv(4.86%)*** polioviruses(19/1644,1.15%)and non-polio enteroviruses(73/1644,4.44%)were isolated,while Sabin-like 3 virus was detected in majority(12/19,63.15%)among the poliovirus *** polioviruses or circulating vDPvs were not detected among the *** all years of the study,the non-polio AFP detection rate was>1/100000 in children aged less than 15 years,whereas stool adequacy rate was>80%.All results were reported within 14 days of receipt,ensuring timely reporting as per global ***:the Polio Regional Reference Laboratory,Sri Lanka plays a vital role in maintaining the polio-free status in the country through its robust laboratory surveillance,while adhering to the surveillance ***-detection of wild polioviruses and circulating vDPv during the study period reinforces the polio-free status in the country.

heterosis effect for larval performance of fall armyworm interstrain hybrids

Spodoptera frugiperda,also known as fall armyworm(FAW),is an invasive crop pest that can feed on a variety of host plants,posing a serious threat to food *** are two sympatric strains of FAW that are morphologically identical but described with different food preferences:the“rice strain”(SfR)and the“corn strain”(SfC).A few genetic loci exist to identify these two *** and Z-chromosome-linked haplotypes are the most used,but the biggest part of the genome displays little polymorphism between strains that could explain their adaptation to different *** have previously observed consistent transcription differences between the strains in both laboratory and natural ***,we wonder if there are effects from host-strain-associated loci,maternally or paternally inherited,on FAW performance that could explain the divergence between the two FAW *** test this hypothesis,we first produced two F1 hybrid generations(SfR♀×SfC♂,SfC♀×SfR♂).these reciprocal hybrids should be heterozygous for all chromosomes except for the maternally inherited mitochondrial and sexual W *** evaluate whether plant preference is determined by these genetic loci,we cultivated the two hybrids and the two parental strains in triplicate on an artificial diet and recorded several phenotypic traits such as weight over time,survival rate,emerging rate,developmental time,and sex ***,the same performance experiment was carried out on corn ***,on the artificial diet,the two hybrid genotypes were both more performant than the two parental strains in terms of survival rate,pupal emerging rate,and developmental time,whereas they were intermediate to the inbred parental strains in pupal *** the corn plant diet,both hybrid genotypes outperformed the two parental strains in larval *** these asymmetrical results revealed that mitochondrial or sex-linked haplotypes alone cannot explain the performance differences

Global paleobiogeography of Albian—Cenomanian(mid-Cretaceous)marine ostracods

Despite their potential for providing important information for paleobiogeography,studies using ostracod assemblages compiled from global datasets have been scarce so *** this study,the paleogeographic implications of the relationship between different ostracod assemblages are analyzed and discussed for the Albian and *** compiled an ostracod dataset at the genus level,with 168 genera for the Albian and 174 for the Cenomanian,to which different multivariate statistical methods of grouping were *** affinity between different ostracod assemblages from different regions allowed for the delineation of 30 operational geographic units(OGUs)for the Albian,and 32 OGUs for the Cenomanian,grouped in three paleobiogeographic units(PBUs;Megatethys,Persia,and Austral)and one sub-unit(PBSU;Maghreb associated to the Megatethys).the Maghreb PBSU showed minor changes between the Albian and *** relationship among the OGUs grouped in each PBU is related to different factors,such as eustatic sea level events,similar climatic zones,and marine current circulation patterns.A relationship was observed between the Gabon and nigeria OGUs with the Persia PBU,which suggests a direct east—west connection between them during the *** affinity observed in the Austral PBU between the South American,South African,and Australian regions during the Albian can be explained by their relative geographic isolation due to the Walvis Ridge *** eventual flooding of this barrier led to the relationship observed between the SE Brazilian and Bolivian regions with the Austral ***,the data also suggested that the separation of the indian subcontinent from the Austral PBU took place during the Cenomanian.

Genetic variability and trait association analysis in linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) for yield and related traits

Diversity information mining about a crop for different attributes is an essential step for effective breeding programs. the present investigation evaluates the quantum of genetic variability and determines the relationship among the important agro-economic traits based on two years of phenotypic data of 210 accessions of linseed. the traits, capsule weight per plant, capsule per plant, husk weight per plant, and seed weight per plant exhibited comparatively higher genetic coefficient of variation (GCv) and phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCv). in contrast, oil content and seed per capsule exhibited a lower value. the high magnitude of broad sense heritability was observed for all traits except seeds per capsule and husk weight per plant. the trait, capsules per plant, plant height, and days to 50% flowering showed high genetic advance coupled with high heritability. hierarchical cluster analysis grouped 210 accessions into six distinct clusters. Out of 210, 144 (68.57%) accessions were grouped into three clusters (i, ii, and iii), in which cluster-iii was the largest, containing 64 accessions followed by cluster ii and cluster-i. the highest inter-cluster distance was observed between clusters-i and v (127.85), while the lowest was between clusters-ii and iv (27.09). the positive correlation of capsule weight per plant with the seed weight per plant and a negative correlation with the days to 50% flowering indicates that high yielding linseed varieties with early flowering/maturity could be developed through direct and indirect selection. Further, seed yield and oil content could be enhanced together as indicated by ghe positive association among these two important traits. in this study, high yielding accessions with moderate to high oil content such as GP36, GP31, GP14, GP54, GP26, GP24, GP34, GP21, GP37 and GP27 and early flowering (less than 70 days) accessions such as GP2, GP26, GP27, CG33, CG44, CG42, CG132, and CG31 identified as potential genetic mater

in this article, a novel scalarization technique, called the improved objective-constraint approach, is introduced to find efficient solutions of a given multiobjective programming problem. the presented scalarized problem extends the objective-constraint problem. it is demonstrated that how adding variables to the scalarized problem, can lead to find conditions for (weakly, properly) Pareto optimal solutions. Applying the obtained necessary and sufficient conditions, two algorithms for generating the Pareto front approximation of bi-objective and three-objective programming problems are designed. these algorithms are easy to implement and can achieve an even approximation of (weakly, properly) Pareto optimal solutions. these algorithms can be generalized for optimization problems with more than three criterion functions, too. the effectiveness and capability of the algorithms are demonstrated in test problems.

Proximity to corridors benefits bird communities in vegetated interrow vineyards in Mendoza, Argentina

Groundwater vulnerability assessment using a GiS-based DRASTiC method in the Erbil Dumpsite area (Kani Qirzhala), Central Erbil Basin, north iraq

Groundwater vulnerability assessment is a crucial step in the efficient management of groundwater resources,especially in areas with intensive anthropogenic activities and groundwater *** the present study,the DRASTiC method was applied using Geographic information System(GiS)to delineate groundwater vulnerability zones in the Erbil Dumpsite area,Central Erbil Basin,north *** showed that the area was classified into four vulnerability classes:very low(16.97%),low(27.67%),moderate(36.55%)and high(18.81%).the southern,south-eastern and northern parts of the study area exhibited the highest vulnerability potential,while the central-northern,northern and north-western regions displayed the lowest vulnerability ***,results of the single-parameter sensitivity analysis indicated that amongst the seven DRASTiC parameters,the unsaturated zone and the aquifer media were the most influencing *** conclustion,the correlation of 25 nitrate concentration values with the final vulnerability map,assessed using the Pearson correlation coefficient,yielded a satisfactory result of R=0.72.

Magnetic resonance imaging-guided focused ultrasound thalamotomy launch with remote telemedicine international proctorship

Background: COviD-19 limitations have hindered the implementation of new technologies by preventing proctors from coming to the *** share our first experience of magnetic resonance imaging(MRi)-guided focused ultrasound(MRgFUS)treatment with an international remote online proctorship,and develop and evaluate the methodology of remote MRgFUS ***: this single-center,nonrandomized controlled prospective study included 94 patients:27 with essential tremor(ET)and 67 with tremor-dominant Parkinson's disease(PD).the coming of proctors was impossible,so we arranged for the remote participation of proctors from the United Kingdom,Spain,and israel.A total of 38 patients(40.4%)received telemedicine-proctored treatment(proctor group)and 56 received their treatment independently(solo group).We used the Clinical Rating Scale for tremor(CRST)for ET patients and the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale(UPDRS)Part iii for PD ***: in patients with ET,success rates were 81.8%(proctor group)and 100%(solo group)(p=0.22).CRST reduction on the treated side was 71.43%[65.83%;80.56%](proctor group)versus 60.87%[53.99;79.58](solo group)(p=0.19).none of the patients showed worsening of tremors within 1 *** patients with PD,the success rates were 92.6%(proctor group)and 100%(solo group)(p=0.08).the UPDRS Part iii improvement was 30.1%(proctor group)versus 39.9%(solo group)(p=0.003).the 1-year recurrence rate was 40%(proctor group)and 17.5%(solo group)(p=0.04).no complications were observed at 6 ***: We developed a feasible and safe methodology for telemedicine remote online-proctored MRgFUS *** significant difference was observed between the solo and developed remote proctor protocols in terms of complication rate,effect,and long-term results;however,UPDRS Part iii improvement was better in the PD solo *** study demonstrated that the MRgFUS international proctorship can be performed successfully remotely.
