Polymorphism in the interleukin-17A promoter contributes to gastric cancer

AIM:To evaluate the contribution of the G-197A polymorphism in the interleukin-17(IL-17)promoter region to gastric cancer risk in an Iranian ***:We performed a case control study using samples from 161 individuals with gastric cancer and171 healthy *** each individual,the G-197A genotype was determined by restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis of polymerase chain reaction-amplified *** analyses were performed to determine whether any demographic or behavioral factors,infection with Helicobacter pylori(***),or a particular G-197A genotype was associated with gastric cancer ***:We found that the G-197A genotype wassignificantly associated with increased gastric cancer risk(P=0.001).Patients who were homozygous(AA)at position-197 were 2.9 times more likely to develop disease(95%CI:1.56-5.4;P=0.001).Furthermore,logistic regression analysis revealed that the presence of a single A allele increased the risk of gastric cancer up to 1.7-fold(95%CI:1.26-2.369;P=0.001).This association was observed for early stage gastric adenocarcinomas only,and was not linked to *** ***:These results suggest that carrying one or more G-197A polymorphisms at position-197 in the IL-17 promoter region significantly increases gastric cancer risk in this patient population.

Oral cancer (OC) is the most common form of head and neck cancer. Despite the high incidence and unfavourable patient outcomes, currently, there are no biomarkers for the early detection of OC. This study aims to discover, develop, and validate a novel saliva-based microRNA signature for early diagnosis and prediction of OC risk in oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMD).The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) miRNA sequencing data and small RNA sequencing data of saliva samples were used to discover differentially expressed miRNAs. Identified miRNAs were validated in saliva samples of OC (n=50), OPMD (n=52), and controls(n=60) using quantitative real-time PCR. Eight differentially expressed miRNAs (miR-7-5p, miR-10b-5p, miR-182-5p, miR-215-5p,miR-431-5p, miR-486-3p, miR-3614-5p, and miR-4707-3p) were identified in the discovery phase and were validated. The efficiency of our eight-miRNA signature to discriminate OC and controls was:area under curve (AUC):0.954, sensitivity:86%, specificity:90%,positive predictive value (PPV):87.8%and negative predictive value (NPV):88.5%whereas between OC and OPMD was:AUC:0.911,sensitivity:90%, specificity:82.7%, PPV:74.2%and NPV:89.6%. We have developed a risk probability score to predict the presence or risk of OC in OPMD patients. We established a salivary miRNA signature that can aid in diagnosing and predicting OC,revolutionising the management of patients with OPMD. Together, our results shed new light on the management of OC by salivary miRNAs to the clinical utility of using miRNAs derived from saliva samples.

Calculation of the Approximate Energy of Ground and Excited Stationary States in Quantum Mechanics Using Delta Method

In this paper, pursuing a new advised method called Delta method which is basically similar to variational method, we find the ground and excited states, according to a typical quantum Hamiltonian. Moreover, applying this method, the upper bound values for the eigenenergies of the so-called ground and excited states are estimated. We will show that this new method, is as beneficial as the traditional variational method which is common in deriving eigenenergies of some of the quantum Hamiltonians. This method helps physics students to broaden their knowledge about the possible mathematical ways;they can use to obtain eigenenergies of some quantum Hamiltonians. The advantage of Delta method to variational method is in its simplicity and reduction of the calculation procedures.

Fabricating of metal foams with desired morphological parameters including pore size,porosity and pore opening is possible now using sintering ***,if it is possible to determine the morphology of metal foam to absorb sound at a given frequency,and then fabricate it through sintering,it is expected to have optimized metal foams for the best sound *** sound absorption models such as Lu model describe the relationship between morphological parameters and the sound absorption *** this study,the Lu model was used to optimize the morphological parameters of aluminum metal foam for the best sound absorption *** this purpose,the Lu model was numerically solved using written codes in MATLAB *** validating the proposed codes with benchmark data,the genetic algorithm(GA)was applied to optimize the affecting morphological parameters on the sound absorption *** optimization was carried out for the thicknesses of 5 mm to 40 mm at the sound frequency range of 250 Hz–8000 *** optimized parameters ranged from 50%to 95%for porosity,0.1 mm to 4.5 mm for pore size,and 0.07 mm to 0.6 mm for pore opening *** result of this study was applied to fabricate the desired aluminum metal foams for the best sound *** novel approach applied in this study,is expected to be successfully applied in for best sound absorption in desired frequencies.

Maximum Load Balancing with Optimized Link Metrics

Traffic engineering helps to use network resources more efficiently. Network operators use TE to obtain different objectives such as load balancing, congestion avoidance and average delay reduction. Plane IP routing protocols such as OSPF, a popular intradomain routing protocol, are believed to be insufficient for TE. OSPF is based on the shortest path algorithm in which link weights are usually static value without considering network load. They can be set using the inverse proportional bandwidth capacity or certain value. However, Optimization theory helps network researchers and operators to analyze the network behavior more precisely. It is not a practical approach can be implemented in traditional protocol .This paper proposes that to address the feasibility requirements, a weight set can be extracted from optimization problem use as a link metric in OSPF. We show the routes that selected in OSPF with these metric distribute the traffic more close to optimal situation than routes from OSPF with default metric.
