After onset of myocardial infarction(MI),the left ventricle(LV) undergoes a continuum of molecular,cellular,and extracellular responses that result in LV wall thinning,dilatation,and *** dynamic changes in LV shape,size,and function are termed cardiac *** the cardiac healing after MI does not proceed properly,it could lead to cardiac rupture or maladaptive cardiac remodeling,such as further LV dilatation and dysfunction,and ultimately *** the precise molecular mechanisms in this cardiac healing process have not been fully elucidated,this process is strictly coordinated by the interaction of cells with their surrounding extracellular matrix(ECM) *** components of ECM include basic structural proteins such as collagen,elastin and specialized proteins such as fibronectin,proteoglycans and matricellular *** proteins are a class of non-structural and secreted proteins that probably exert regulatory functions through direct binding to cell surface receptors,other matrix proteins,and soluble extracellular factors such as growth factors and *** small group of proteins,which includesosteopontin,thrombospondin-1/2,tenascin,periostin,and secreted protein,acidic and rich in cysteine,shows a low level of expression in normal adult tissue,but is markedly upregulated during wound healing and tissue remodeling,including *** this review,we focus on the regulatory functions of matricellular proteins during cardiac tissue healing and remodeling after MI.

Background:Glycolipids are potent activator of CD1 d-restricted natural killer T(NKT) cells,they activate NKT cells mainly through the antigen presentation by CD1 *** cells has a pivotal role in the induction of liver injury by the lectin concanavalin A(ConA).Intestinal microflora can affect the progression of liver disease;however,the relationship between intestinal bacteria-derived glycolipids and liver injury remains *** therefore investigated the role of gut bacteria-derived glycolipids in regulating NKT cell-mediated liver ***:In sharp contrast to specific pathogen-free(SPF) mice,germ-free(GF) mice are resistant to ConA-induced liver *** showed that ConA treatment failed to trigger the activation of hepatic NKT cells in GF *** defects correlated with sharply reduced levels of CD1 d-presented glycolipid antigens and serum lipopolysaccharide(LPS) in ConA-treated GF mice compared with SPF ***,CD1 d expression was similar between GF and SPF ***,the absence of intestinal bacteria failed to affect the incidence of aGalCer-induced liver injury in GF *** further established that hepatic NKT and relevant APCs in SPF and GF mice have similar ***,treatment of GF mice with killed intestinal bacteria prior was able to restore ConA-mediated activation of hepatic NKT cells and its subsequent liver ***:These findings indicate that enterogenous bacterial glycolipids are important hepatic NKT cell agonist and these enterogenous bacterial antigens are required for ConA-induced liver injury.

A three-dimensional numerical model was developed to predict the behavior of tidal flow by using the σ-coordinate transformation. Conservation equations were solved by hybrid finite analytical techniques. The hydrodynamic model was verified with the analytical solutions for the tidal forcing in an open channel. The simulation results are in good agreement with the analytical solutions.

AIM:To identify factors contributing to visual improvement after treatment of macular edema(ME)secondary to branch retinal vein occlusion(BRVO),and to assess the interaction between laser therapy and intravitreal ranibizumab(IVR).METHODS:We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients who had been treated for BRVO-related ME at our *** were traceable for at least 12 mo,and evaluated factors included age,sex,medical history,smoking history,treatment methods,foveal hemorrhage,and change in visual *** included laser therapy,IVR,sub-Tenon’s capsule injection of triamcinolone(STTA),a combination,or no *** logistic regression analysis and interaction terms were used to assess the clinical efficacy of the treatments,and odds ratios(OR)and 95%confidence intervals(CI)were ***:Seventy-three patients(34 men,39 women;73 eyes)with a mean age of 69.4±12.1 y were *** who underwent IVR monotherapy,laser monotherapy,and STTA+laser had significantly higher best corrected visual acuity at 12 mo compared to baseline(P<0.001,<0.001,and 0.019,respectively).Logistic regression analysis without interaction terms found that IVR was a significant visual acuity recovery factor(adjusted OR:3.89,95%CI:1.25-12.1,P=0.019).Adjusted OR using an interaction model by logistic regression was 16.6(95%CI:2.54-108.47,P=0.003)with IVR treatment,and 8.25(95%CI:1.34-50.57,P=0.023)with laser *** interaction was observed(adjusted OR:0.07,95%CI:0.01-0.75,P=0.029).CONCLUSION:IVR contributes to improvements in visual acuity at 12 mo in ME secondary to *** interaction is observed between laser therapy and IVR treatments.

The effects of turbulent intensity and vortex scale of simulated natural wind on performance of a horizontal axis wind turbine(HAWT) are mainly investigated in this paper. In particular, the unsteadiness and turbulence of wind in Japan are stronger than ones in Europe and North America in general. Hence, Japanese engineers should take account of the velocity unsteadiness of natural wind at installed open-air location to design a higher performance wind turbine. Using the originally designed five wind turbines on the basis of NACA and MEL blades, the dependencies of the wind frequency and vortex scale of the simulated natural wind are presented. As the results, the power coefficient of the newly designed MEL3-type rotor in the simulated natural wind is 130% larger than one in steady wind.

PIV Measurements of Flows around the Wind Turbines with a Flanged-Diffuser Shroud

The wind turbines with a flanged-diffuser shroud -so called ＂wind lens turbine＂- are developed as one of high performance wind turbines by Ohya et al. In order to investigate the flow characteristics and flow acceleration, the paper presents the flow velocity measurements of a long-type and a compact-type wind turbines with a flanged-diffuser shroud by particle image velocimetry. In the case of the long type wind turbine, the velocity vec- tors of the inner flow field of the diffuser for turbine blades rotating and no blades rotating are presented at Rey- nolds number, 0.9x105. Fur^thermore the flow fields between with and without rotating are compared. Through the PIV measurement results, one can realize that the turbine blades rotating affects as suppress the disturbance and the flow separation near the inner wall of the diffuser. The time average velocity vectors are made on the av- erage of the instantaneous velocity data. There are two large vortices in downstream region of the diffuser. One vortex behind the flange acts as suck in wind to the diffuser and raise the inlet flow velocity. Another large vortex appears in downstream. It might be act as blockage vortex of main flow. The large blockage vortex is not clear in the instantaneous velocity vectors, however it exists clearly in the time average flow field. The flow field around the wind turbine with a compact-type flanged-diffuser shroud is also investigated. The flow pattern behind the flange of the compact-type turbine is the same as the long-type one. It means that the effect of flow acceleration is caused by the unsteady vortices behind the flange. The comparison with CFD and PIV results of meridional time-average streamlines after the compact-type diffuser is also presented.

Secondary pouchitis in a post-operative patient with ulcerative colitis,successfully treated by salvage surgery

We report a case of secondary pouchitis, defined as a mucosal inflammatory lesion in the ileal reservoir provoked by pouch-related complication following total colectomy and pouch anal anastomosis, which was successfully treated by salvage surgery. A 20-year-old woman with ulcerative colitis developed acute severe bloody diarrhea following proctocolectomy, ileal pouchanal anastomosis and diverting ileostomy. She was diagnosed as having a secondary pouchitis mainly caused by a peripouch abscess and partly concerned with the abnormal pouch formation. The remnantrectum and ileal pouch were excised and ileal pouch-anal anastomosis and diverting ileostomy were *** postoperative course was uneventful with no sign of pouchitis. Salvage surgery may be indicated to treat secondary pouchitis when caused by surgery-related complications.

A DFT Method for Single-Control Testability of RTL Data Paths for BIST

This paper presents a new BIST method for RTL data paths based on single-control testability, a new concept of testability. The BIST method adopts hierarchical test. Test pattern generators are placed only on primary inputs and test patterns are propagated to and fed into each module. Test responses are similarly propagated to response analyzers placed only on primary outputs. For the propagation of test patterns and test responses paths existing in the data path are utilized. The DFT method for the single-control testability is also proposed. The advantages of the proposed method are high fault coverage (for single Stuck-at faults), low hardware overhead and capability of at-speed test. Moreover, test patterns generated by test pattern generators can be fed into each module at consecutive system clocks, and thus, the BIST can also detect some faults of other fault models (e.g., transition faults and delay faults) that require consecutive application of test patterns at speed of system clock.

AIM： A few studies have applied genomic-wide gene expression analysis in inflamed colon tissue sample in ulcerative colitis （UC）. We reported the first study of non-inflamed mucosal gene expression in UC and explored its clinical implication. METHODS： Non-inflamed mucosa was obtained from 6 UC patients who received total colectomy. The gene expression of UC in noninflamed mucosa was monitored with a microarray. For a selected gene, RT-PCR was performed to verify array results and to further examine expression pattern in inflamed mucosa of UC, colorectal cancer tissue and normal mucosa using additional matched pairs. RESULTS： Two genes showing 2.5-fold decreased expression with significance set at in UC samples were borneo box a4 （HOXa4） and mads box transcription enhancer factor 2, polypeptide B （MEF2b）. RT-PCR showed that MEF2b expression in non-inflamed mucosa was significantly downregulated, whereas the expression of MEF2b increased in accordance with the severity of mucosal inflammation. HOXa4 expression both in inflamed and non-inflamed mucosa in UC was consistently downregulated, and the downregulation of HOXa4 was also found in colorectal carcinoma. CONCLUSION： It is suggested that the MEF2b expression in UC which increase in accordance with inflammation may be induced by the inflammatory mediator. In contrast the downregulation of HOXa4 may be partly involved in the pathogenesis of disease including UC and UC-related carcinogenesis.
