Thermoelectrics has played a fascinating role in the developments of direct energy conversion *** the past decade,sulfur-based thermoelectric materials have been significantly advanced in optimizing electrical and thermal transport due to their similarities in chemical and structural properties with tellurides and *** review provides research progress on metal sulfides,particularly focuses on materials exhibiting high thermoelectric figure of merit(ZT>1.0).It highlights the potential compounds,***-S,Sn-S,Pb-S based,and *** strategies of superionic conducting,band configuration tuning,high-entropy alloying,and anomalous harmonic scattering are try to demonstrate the performance-improved mechanisms for thermoelectric *** addition,some common synthesis recipes are briefly introduced,and thereby making potential candidates as excellent alternatives for producing thermoelectric power generators in the mid *** outcomes along with how to further improve the thermoelectric performance and promote its scale-up applications are also outlined at the end.

AIM: To investigate whether active glucagon-like peptide-1(GLP-1) is a prediction Factor of Effect of sitagliptin on patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(GLP-1 FEST:UMIN000010645). METHODS: Seventy-six patients with type 2 diabetes, who had insufficient glycemic control [Hemoglobin A1c(Hb A1c) ≥ 7%] in spite of treatment with metformin and/or sulfonylurea, were included in the investigation. Patients were divided into three groups by tertiles of fasting plasma active GLP-1 level, before the administration of 50 mg sitagliptin. RESULTS: At baseline, body mass index, serum UA, insulin and HOMA-IR were higher in the high active GLP-1 group than in the other two groups. The high active GLP-1 group did not show any decline of Hb A1c(7.6% ± 1.4% to 7.5% ± 1.5%), whereas the middle and low groups indicated significant decline of Hb A1c(7.4 ± 0.7 to 6.8 ± 0.6 and 7.4 ± 1.2 to 6.9 ± 1.3, respectively) during six months. Only the low and middle groups showed a significant increment of active GLP-1, C-peptide level, a decreased log and proinsulin/insulin ratio after administration. In logistic analysis, the low or middle group is a significantexplanatory variable for an Hb A1 c decrease of ≥ 0.5%, and its odds ratio is 4.5(1.40-17.6)(P = 0.01) against the high active GLP-1 group. This remains independent when adjusted for Hb A1 c level before administration, patients' medical history, medications, insulin secretion and insulin ***: Plasma fasting active GLP-1 is an independent predictive marker for the efficacy of dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitor sitagliptin.

Tibetan weedy barleys reside at the edges of qingke(hulless barley)fields in Tibet(Xizang).The spikes of these weedy barleys contain or lack a brittle rachis,with either two-or six-rowed spikes and either hulled or hulless grains at *** the brittle rachis trait of Tibetan weedy barleys is similar to that of wild barley(Hordeum vulgare *** Thell.),these plants share genetic similarity with domesticated *** origin of Tibetan weedy barleys continues to be ***,we show that most Tibetan weedy barleys originated from cross-pollinated hybridization of domesticated barleys,followed by hybrid self-pollination and recombination between Non-brittle rachis 1(btr1)and 2(btr2).We discovered the specific genetic ancestry of these weedy barleys in South Asian *** weedy barleys exhibit lower genetic diversity than wild and Chinese landraces/cultivars and share a close relationship with qingke,genetically differing from typical eastern and western barley *** classified Tibetan weedy barleys into two groups,brittle rachis(BR)and non-brittle rachis(NBR);these traits align with the haplotypes of the btr1 and btr2 *** wild barleys carry haplotype combinations of Btr1 and Btr2,each showing lower proportions in a population,the recombinant haplotype BTR2H8+BTR1H24 is predominant in the BR *** block analysis based on whole-genome sequencing revealed two recombination breakpoints,which are present in 80.6%and 16.8%of BR acces-sions according to marker-assisted *** events between wild and domesticated barley were rarely *** support the notion that Tibetan weedy barleys originated via recom-bination between Btr1 and Btr2 in domesticated barley.

This study aimed to identify the reasons for transferring athletes to local medical facilities during the Olympic and Paralympic *** on 567 injuries and other illnesses of athletes treated at the on-site clinics were collected from the Tokyo 2020 Organizing *** these,84 athletes who required outpatient care during the Games were registered for this *** the Olympic and Paralympic Games,66(8.3/1000)and 18(7.2/1000)athletes,respectively,consulted external medical *** the Olympic Games,the reasons for these visits included 48 cases(72.7%)of injuries,13(19.7%)cases of illnesses,and 5(7.6%)cases of heat stroke illness(HSI).Of these patients,56(84.9%)were treated as outpatients and 10(15.1%)were hospitalized,while three of these patients required hospitalization for>7 *** the other hand,in the Paralympics Games,there were 7(38.8%)cases of injuries,9(50.0%)other illnesses,1(5.6%)case of HSI,and 1(5.6%)other cases,of which 11(61.1%)were treated as outpatients and 7(38.9%)were hospitalized,but none was hospitalized for>7 *** accounted for 70%of the total cases at the 2021 Olympic Games,but only three(0.05%)were severe cases that required hospitalization for more than 1 *** contrast,in the Paralympic Games,other illnesses accounted for approximately half of the total *** study provides details on the extent of injuries and other illnesses that were transferred to outside facilities,which has not been documented in previous games.

The baker's yeast Saccharomyces(S.)cerevisiae is a single-celled eukaryotic model organism widely used in research on life *** a unicellular organism,*** has some evident limitations in application to ***,yeast prions are extensively studied and they are known to share some hallmarks with mammalian prion protein or other amyloidogenic proteins found in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's,Parkinson's,or Huntington's ***,the yeast *** has been widely used for basic research on aggregation properties of proteins in cellulo and on their ***,a yeast-based study revealed that some regions of mammalian prion protein and amyloidβ1–42 are capable of induction and propagation of yeast *** is one of the examples showing that evolutionarily distant organisms share common mechanisms underlying the structural conversion of prion proteins making yeast cells a useful system for studying mammalian prion *** has also been used to design novel screening systems for anti-prion compounds from chemical *** assays are cheap in maintenance and safe for the researcher,making them a very good choice to perform preliminary screening before further characterization in systems engaging mammalian cells infected with *** this review,not only classical red/white colony assay but also yeast-based screening assays developed during last year are *** analysis and research carried out using yeast prions force us to expect that prions are widely present in ***,the last few years brought us several examples indicating that the mammalian prion protein is no more peculiar protein–it seems that a better understanding of prion proteins nature-wide may aid us with the treatment of prion diseases and other amyloid-related medical conditions.

The magnetic properties of exchange coupled composite （ECC） media that are composed of perpendicular magnetic recording media FePt MgO and two kinds of soft layers have been studied by using an x-ray diffractometer, a polar Kerr magneto-optical system （PMOKE） and a vibrating sample magnetometer （VSM）. The results show that ECC media can reduce the coercivities of perpendicular magnetic recording media FePt-MgO. The ECC media with granular-type soft layers have weaker exchange couplings between magnetic grains and the magnetization process, for ECC media of this kind mainly follow the Stoner Wohlfarth model.

The objective of this study is to show the effect of guide vane geometry on the performance. In order to overcome the disadvantages of vertical axis wind turbine, a straight-bladed vertical axis wind turbine （S-VAWT） with a directed guide vane row has been proposed and tested by the authors. According to previous studies, it was clarified that the performance of the turbine can be improved by means of the directed guide vane row. However, the guide vane geometry of S-VAWT has not been optimized so far. In order to clarify the effect of guide vanegeometry, the effects of setting angle and gap between rotor blade and guide vane on power coefticlent and start- ing characteristic were investigated in the experiments. The experimental study of the proposed wind turbine was carried out by a wind tunnel. The wind tunnel with a diameter of 1.8m is open jet type. The wind velocity is 8 m/s in the experiments. The rotor has three straight blades with a profile of NACA0018 and a chord length of 100 mm, a diameter of 0.6 m and a blade height of 0.7 m. The guide vane row consists of 3 arc plates.

Periodical shedding of cloud cavitation from a single hydrofoil in high-speed cryogenic channel flow

In order to explain criteria for periodical shedding of the cloud cavitation, flow patterns of cavitation around a piano-convex hydrofoil were observed using a cryogenic cavitation tunnel of a blowdown type. Two hydrofoils of similarity of 20 and 60 mm in chord length with two test sections of 20 and 60 mm in width were prepared. Working fluids were water at ambient temperature, hot water and liquid nitrogen. The parameter range was varied between 0.3 and 1.4 for cavitation number, 9 and 17 m/sec for inlet flow velocity, and -8° and 8° for the flow incidence angle, respectively. At incidence angle 8°, that is, the convex surface being suction surface, periodical shedding of the whole cloud cavitation was observed on the convex surface under the specific condition with cavitation number and inlet flow velocity, respectively, 0.5, 9 m/sec for liquid nitrogen at 192℃ and 1.4, 11 m/sec for water at 88℃, whereas under the supercavitation condition, it was not observable. Periodical shedding of cloud cavitation occurs only in the case that there are both the adverse pressure gradient and the slow flow region on the hydrofoil.

Influence of image classification accuracy on saliency map estimation

Saliency map estimation in computer vision aims to estimate the locations where people gaze in images. Since people tend to look at objects in images, the parameters of the model pre-trained on ImageNet for image classification are useful for the saliency map estimation. However, there is no research on the relationship between the image classification accuracy and the performance of the saliency map estimation. In this study, it is shown that there is a strong correlation between image classification accuracy and saliency map estimation accuracy. The authors also investigated the effective architecture based on multi-scale images and the up-sampling layers to refine the saliencymap resolution. The model achieved the state-of-the-art accuracy on the PASCAL-S, OSIE, and MIT1003 datasets. In the MIT saliency benchmark, the model achieved the best performance in some metrics and competitive results in the other metrics.
