Adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells （ADSCs） are a treatment cell source for patients with chronic liver injury. ADSCs are characterized by being harvested from the patient’s own subcutaneous adipose tissue, a high cell yield （ i.e. , reduced immune rejection res-ponse）, accumulation at a disease nidus, suppression of excessive immune response, production of various growth factors and cytokines, angiogenic effects, anti-apoptotic effects, and control of immune cells via cell-cell interaction. We previously showed that conditioned medium of ADSCs promoted hepatocyte proliferation and improved the liver function in a mouse model of acute liver failure. Furthermore, as found by many other groups, the administration of ADSCs improved liver tissue fbrosis in a mouse model of liver cirrhosis. A comprehensive protein expression analysis by liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry show-ed that the various cytokines and chemokines produced by ADSCs promote the healing of liver disease. In this review, we examine the ability of expressed protein com-ponents of ADSCs to promote healing in cell therapy for liver disease. Previous studies demonstrated that ADSCs are a treatment cell source for patients with chronic liver injury. This review describes the various cytokines and chemokines produced by ADSCs that promote the healing of liver disease.

Barnyardgrass-induced rice allelopathy

The chemical cross talk between rice and barnyard grass was investigated. When barnyardgrass and rice seedlings were grown together, allelopathic activity of the rice was increased. Even though rice and barnyardgrass were incubated with enough nutrient conditions, rice allelopathy was still increased. Thus, some mechanisms may be involved in the barnyardgrass-induced rice allelopathy rather than nutrient competition between two species. Barnyardgrass root exudates was also increased not only rice allelopathy, but also momilactone B production in the rice and secretion from the rice. Momilactone B possesses strong growth inhibitory activity against barnyardgrass and plays a particularly critical role in rice allelopathy. In addition, a momilactone deficient mutant of rice did not increase its allelopathic activity where the mutant and barnyardgrass were grown together. Those results suggest that barnyardgrass-induced rice allelopathy may be due to the increased momilactone B secretion from rice. Rice may be aware of the presence of neighboring barnyardgrass by detection of the key compound in barnyardgrass root exudates, and this sensorial function may trigger a signal cascade resulting in increasing rice allelopathy through increasing production of momilactone B and secretion of momilactone B into the rhizosphere. Therefore, rice allelopathy may potentially be an inducible defense mechanism by chemical-mediated plant interactions between rice and barnyardgrass and the induced-allelopathy may provide a competitive advantage for rice through suppression of the growth of barnyardgrass.

Background: Hepatitis after the reactivation of hepatitis B virus (HBV) has been recognized serious in the patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) treated with biologics. Objectives: The objective of the present study was to search some common background which might be relevant to the host factors that provoke such a serious hepatitis. Methods: We retrospectively collected and analyzed all data of serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels in selected patients with RA at random. Results: A significant association (P P P = 0.73) in the anti-HBcAb-positive RA group. In addition, the anti-HBcAb-positive RA patients showed significantly lower mean serum level of ALT (P P Conclusions: The anti-HBcAb-positive RA group showed the suppression of MTX-induced elevations in serum ALT level. However, this suppression was not found in patients experienced in the treatment with biologics, although it was preserved in those who had not experienced biologics. Failure of this suppressive mechanism of ALT in anti-HBcAb-positive RA patients treated with biologics could be possibly associated with serious hepatitis after the reactivation of HBV infection.

Purpose: We report the results of applying arterial spin labeling (ASL) to intracranial dural arteriovenous fistula (DAVF). Methods: Sixteen patients with angiographically confirmed DAVF underwent ASL on a clinical 1.5 T or 3 T MR system. ASL was performed by Q2TIPS (second version of quantitative imaging of perfusion by using a single subtraction MRI pulse sequence with thin-slice TI1 periodic saturation) with echo-planar imaging. Draining veins such as dural venous sinus and cortical veins were evaluated on ASL. Results: ASL clearly depicted draining dural venous sinus in all patients with DAVF Borden type I (6/6, 100%) and type II (4/4, 100%). ASL depicted cortical venous reflux in only one patient with DAVF Borden type II (1/4, 25%). ASL depicted drainage directly into cortical veins in all patients with Borden type III (6/6, 100%). Conclusion: Our preliminary study suggests that ASL can depict draining veins in patients with DAVF.

BACKGROUND Flap reconstruction after resection of a superficial malignant soft tissue tumor extends the surgical field and is an indicator for potential recurrence *** To describe a grading system for surgical field extension of soft tissue *** Grading system:CD-grading is a description system consisting of C and D values in the surgical field extension,which are related to the compartmental position of the flap beyond the nearby large joint and deeper extension for the pedicle,respectively.C1/D1 are positive values and C0/D0 are *** a known location,1/0 values can be"p"(proximal),"d"(distal),and"b"(in the tumor bed),and the description method is as follows:flap type,CxDx[x=0,1,p,d or b].RESULTS Four representative patients with subcutaneous sarcomas who underwent reconstruction using fasciocutaneous flaps are *** cases involved a distal upper arm(elbow)synovial sarcoma reconstructed using a pedicled latissimus dorsi(pedicled flap:CpDp);a distal upper arm(elbow)pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma reconstructed using a transpositional flap from the forearm(transpositional flap:CdD0);an undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma in the buttocks reconstructed using a transpositional flap(transpositional flap:C0D0);and a myxofibrosarcoma in the buttocks reconstructed using a propeller flap from the thigh(pedicled flap:CdDd).CONCLUSION The reconstruction method is chosen by the surgeon based on size,location,and other tumor characteristics;however,the final surgical field cannot be determined based on preoperative images ***-grading is a description system consisting of C and D values in the surgical field extension that are related to the compartmental position of the flap beyond the nearby large joint and deeper extension for the pedicle,*** CD-grading system gives a new perspective to the flap reconstruction *** CD-grading system also provides important information for follow-up imaging of a possible recurrenc

The purpose of variable selection is to identify important predictors for response variables. Although there are many varieties of variable selection methods, almost all of them have a problem of not accounting for the relationship between predictors. Therefore it would well happen that the selected subset of identified predictors leads to hard-to-interpret model consisted of only interaction terms. In design of experiments, the analysis is driven by the effect heredity principle which governs the relationship between an interaction and its corresponding main effects. In this paper, the authors extend the variable selection method the Lasso with effect heredity principle to its Bayesian version. In the example, the authors analyze the data obtained from typical screening design Plackett-Bunnan design and compare the result from the ordinary Bayesian Lasso and proposed method.
