The total efficiency of power plants depends on energy conversion in a combustor and a turbine. Considerably higher energy transfer rates can be obtained from a pulsed combustion although unsteady flow of a single jet combustor reduces the turbine efficiency. Therefore, two pulse combustors were set in parallel and connected to a settling chamber that supplies a flow with constant pressure to the turbine. The aim of investigations presented here is a demonstration of technical feasibility for industrial applications and to show the benefits obtained from the pulse combustors.

Protective effect of estradiol on hepatocytic oxidative damage

AIM: To examine the protective effect of estradiol on the cultured hepatocytes under oxidative stress. METHODS: Hepatocytes of rat were isolated by using perfusion method, and oxidative stress was induced by a serum-free medium and FeNTA. MDA level was determined with TBA method. Cell damage was assessed by LDH assay. Apoptosis of hepatocytes was assessed with cytoflowmetric analysis. Expression of Bcl-xl in cultured hepatocytes was detected by Western blot. The radical-scavenging activity of estradiol was valued by its ability to scavenge the stable free radical of DDPH. RESULTS: Oxidative stress increased LDH from 168 +/- 25 x 10(-6)***(-1) to 780 +/- 62 x 10(-6)***(-1) and MDA(from 0.28 +/- 0.07 x 10(-6)***(-1) to 1.35 +/- 0.12 x 10(-6)***(-1)) levels in cultured hepatocyte, and estradiol inhibited both LDH and MDA production in a dose dependent manner. In the presence of estradiol 10(-6)mol.L(-1), 10( -7 )mol.L(-1) and 10(-8)mol.L(-1),the LDH levels are 410 +/- 53 x 10(-6)***(-1) (P<0.01 vs oxidative group), 530 +/- 37 X 10(-6)***(-1 ) (P<0.01 vs oxidative group), 687+/-42 x 10(-6)***(-1) (P<0.05 vs oxidative group) respectively, and the MDA level are 0.71+/-0.12 x 10(-6)***(-1) (P<0.01 vs oxidative group),0.97+/-0.11 x 10(-6)***(-1 )(P<0.01 vs oxidative group) and 1.27+/-0.19 x 10(-6)***(-1) respectively. Estradiol suppressed apoptosis of hepatocytes induced by oxidative stress, administration of estradiol(10(-6)mol/L)decreased the apoptotic rate of hepatocytes under oxidative stress from 18.6 +/- 1.2% to 6.5 +/-2.5%, P<0.01. Bcl-xl expression was related to the degree of liver cell damage due to oxidative stress, and estradiol showed a protective action. CONCLUSION: Estradiol protects hepatocytes from oxidative damage by means of its antioxidant activity.

This paper proposes a novel method for analyzing a textile fabric structure to extract positional information regarding each yarn using three-dimensional X-ray computed tomography(3D CT) *** relationship among the yarns can be reconstructed using the extracted yarn positional *** this paper,a sequence of points on the center line of each yarn of the sample is defined as the yarn positional information,since the sequence can be regarded as the representative position of the *** sequence is extracted by tracing the *** yarn is traced by estimating the yarn center and direction and correlating the yarn part of the 3D CT image with a 3D yarn model,which is moved along the estimated yarn *** trajectory of the center of the yarn model corresponds to the positional information of the *** application of the proposed method is shown by experimentally applying the proposed method to a 3D CT image of a double-layered woven ***,the experimental results for a plain knitted fabric show that this method can be applied to even knitted fabrics.

Twenty shopping streets in Tokyo,Japan,were analyzed based on pedestrian vibrancy and visual information by assessing physical dimensions,objects,shops and quantity of pedestrians and walking *** survey recorded 12-h periods of a typical weekday by tracking daily variations between July 3rd to August 3rd,2017 and October 13th to November 10th,*** analysis,Hierarchical Cluster and Discriminant Analyses were performed using the statistical software,SPSS *** study classifies four dusters of shopping streets accordingly to pedestrian vibrancy as eccentric,with large street dimensions and big retailing shops;strong,with variety of specialized daily life stores,balanced,with lower specialized daily life stores,closer residential area and moderate numbers of flower pots;and weakened,with very few shops,residential predominance and higher numbers of flower *** indicate that larger street dimensions together with specialization of shops,rather than variety or number,are prone to slow walking speeds and larger numbers of ***,it was noticeable the connection of number of flower pots with proximity of residential *** could be theorized that pedestrian vibrancy correlates inversely to the proximity of residential *** closer residential area is the lowest pedestrian vibrancy would be.

Olympus Corporation developed texture and color enhancement imaging(TXI)as a novel image-enhancing endoscopic *** topic highlights a series of hot-topic articles that investigated the efficacy of TXI for gastrointestinal disease identification in the clinical setting.A randomized controlled trial demonstrated improvements in the colorectal adenoma detection rate(ADR)and the mean number of adenomas per procedure(MAP)of TXI compared with those of white-light imaging(WLI)observation(58.7%vs 42.7%,adjusted relative risk 1.35,95%CI:1.17-1.56;1.36 vs 0.89,adjusted incident risk ratio 1.48,95%CI:1.22-1.80,respectively).A cross-over study also showed that the colorectal MAP and ADR in TXI were higher than those in WLI(1.5 vs 1.0,adjusted odds ratio 1.4,95%CI:1.2-1.6;58.2%vs 46.8%,1.5,1.0-2.3,respectively).A randomized controlled trial demonstrated non-inferiority of TXI to narrow-band imaging in the colorectal mean number of adenomas and sessile serrated lesions per procedure(0.29 vs 0.30,difference for non-inferiority-0.01,95%CI:-0.10 to 0.08).A cohort study found that scoring for ulcerative colitis severity using TXI could predict relapse of ulcerative colitis.A cross-sectional study found that TXI improved the gastric cancer detection rate compared to WLI(0.71%vs 0.29%).A cross-sectional study revealed that the sensitivity and accuracy for active Helicobacter pylori gastritis in TXI were higher than those of WLI(69.2%vs 52.5%and 85.3%vs 78.7%,res-pectively).In conclusion,TXI can improve gastrointestinal lesion detection and qualitative ***,further studies on the efficacy of TXI in clinical practice are required.

Recent advances in endoscopic technology allow detailed observation of the gastric ***,endoscopy is used in the diagnosis of gastritis to determine the presence/absence of Helicobacter pylori(***)infection and evaluate gastric cancer *** 2013,the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society advocated the Kyoto classification,a new grading system for endoscopic *** Kyoto classification organized endoscopic findings related to *** *** Kyoto classification score is the sum of scores for five endoscopic findings(atrophy,intestinal metaplasia,enlarged folds,nodularity,and diffuse redness with or without regular arrangement of collecting venules)and ranges from 0 to ***,intestinal metaplasia,enlarged folds,and nodularity contribute to gastric cancer *** redness and regular arrangement of collecting venules are related to *** infection *** subjects without a history of *** eradication,the infection rates in those with Kyoto scores of 0,1,and≥2 were 1.5%,45%,and 82%,respectively.A Kyoto classification score of 0 indicates no *** infection.A Kyoto classification score of 2 or more indicates *** *** classification scores of patients with and without gastric cancer were 4.8 and 3.8,respectively.A Kyoto classification score of 4 or more might indicate gastric cancer risk.

Acute pancreatitis and cholangitis: A complication caused by a migrated gastrostomy tube

Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) is generally considered safe with a low rate of serious complications. However, dislocation of the PEG-tube into the duodenum can lead to serious complications. An 86-year old Japanese woman with PEG-tube feeding sometimes vomited after her family doctor replaced the PEG-tube without radiologic confirmation. At her hospitalization, she complained of severe tenderness at the epigastric region and the PEG-tube was drawn into the stomach. Imaging studies showed that the tip of PEG-tube with the infl ated balloon was migrated into the second portion of the duodenum, suggesting that it might have obstructed the bile and pancreatic ducts, inducing cholangitis and pancreatitis. After the PEG- tube was replaced at the appropriate position, vomiting and abdominal tenderness improved dramatically and laboratory studies became normal immediately. Our case suggests that it is important to secure PEG-tube at the level of skin, especially after replacement.
