On-Line Measurement of the Chemical Oxygen Demand in Wastewater in a Pulp and Paper Mill Using Near Infrared Spectroscopy

Although near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy has been evaluated for numerous applications, the number of actual on-line or even on-site industrial applications seems to be very limited. In the present paper, the attempts to produce online predictions of the chemical oxygen demand (COD) in wastewater from a pulp and paper mill using NIR spectroscopy are described. The task was perceived as very challenging, but with a root mean square error of prediction of 149 mg/l, roughly corresponding to 1/10 of the studied concentration interval, this attempt was deemed as successful. This result was obtained by using partial least squares model regression, interpolated reference values for calibration purposes, and by evenly distributing the calibration data in the concentration space. This work may also represent the first industrial application of online COD measurements in wastewater using NIR spectroscopy.

＜正＞ Antidepressant drugs （ADs） blocking the reuptake of noradrenaline （NA） and/or 5-hydroxytryptamine （5-HT） cause an acute autoreceptor-mediated feed-back inhibition of nerve activity and transmitter release in NA and/or 5-HT systems that gradually recedes due to autoreceptor desensitization. Adjunctive α2 adrenoceptor blockade which antagonizes both noradrenergic α2 autoreceptors and serotonergic α2 heteroreceptors may thus enhance the release of both transmitters during acute as well as chronic AD treatment. Indeed, clinical use of adjunctive mirtazapine, a weak α2 adrenoceptor antagonist, indicates a more rapid onset of action and improved efficacy of 5-HT reuptake inhibitors in depression. Employing adjunct α2 antagonists with typical antipsychotic drugs （APDs）, which contrary to clozapine lack potent α2 antagonistic activity, markedly enhances their efficacy in treatment-resistant schizophrenia. Preclinical data propose that the increased efficacy is related to a clozapine-like enhanced prefrontal DA outflow and an associated facilitation of glutamatergic neurotransmission. Thus. α2 adrenoceptor blockade appears as a common means to improve the clinical efficacy of both ADs and APDs.

可将临界负荷概念用于确定生态系统能够忍耐的无显著毒害作用的沉积水平。本文总结了瑞典研究课题"跨界大气污染的削减策略(ASTA)"中北方针叶林氮的临界负荷评估工作。不论是瑞典北方低水平氮背景沉降地区的野外实验,还是大尺度的监测研究,结果都表明:少量增加氮剂量会引发重大的植被变化;并且停止氮输入后,植被恢复非常缓慢。数据表明,即便氮输入的速率低于目前建议的临界负荷(北方针叶林下层植被的经验值为10～15kg N/hm^2·a),生态系统的关键成分也会发生变化。根据这些数据,我们认为临界负荷应降为6 kg N/hm^2·a。
