Physical activity can enhance cognitive function and increase resistance against deleterious effects of stress on m.ntal health. Enhanced cognitive function and stress resistance produced by exercise are conserved am.ng vertebrates, suggesting that ubiquitous m.chanism. m.y underlie beneficial ef- fects of exercise. In the current review, we sum.arize the beneficial effects of exercise on cognitive function and stress resistance and discuss central and peripheral signaling factors that m.y be critical for conferring the effects of physical activity to brain circuits involved in cognitive function and stress. Additionally, it is suggested that norepinephrine and serotonin, highly conserved m.noam.nes that are sensitive to exercise and able to m.dulate behavior in m.ltiple species, could represent a conver- gence between peripheral and central exercise signals that m.diate the beneficial effects of exercise. Finally, we offer the novel hypothesis that therm.regulation during exercise could contribute to the em.tional effects of exercise by activating a subset of tem.erature-sensitive serotonergic neurons in the dorsal raphe nucleus that convey anxiolytic and stress-protective signals to forebrain regions. Throughout the review, we discuss lim.tations to current approaches and offer strategies for future re- search in exercise neuroscience.

We report the case of a patient affected by an extra-nodal non-Hodgkin lym.hom. presenting as a unique, large retroperitoneal m.ss with an unusual clinical presentation m.m.cking gastric peptic or neoplastic disease. The patientwas successfully treated with a first generation therapy,CHOP m.dified regim.n (cyclophospham.de 600m./m.2 intravenously on d 1, epirubicin 55m./m.2 intravenously on d 1, vincristine 1.2 m./m.2 intravenously on d 1,prednisone 60 m./m.2 on d 1-5), and a com.lete response was achieved. The (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron em.ssion tom.graphy was used to assess the therapy outcom.. A brief review of literature is provided.

Total colectom. with ileostom. placem.nt is a treatm.nt for patients with inflam.atory bowel disease or fam.lial adenom.tous polyposis(FAP). A rare and late com.lication of this treatm.nt is carcinom. arising at the ileostom. site. We describe two such cases: a 78-year-old m.le 30 years after subtotal colectom. and ileostom. for FAP, and an 85-year-old m.le 50 years after colectom. and ileostom. for ulcerative colitis. The long latency period between creation of the ileostom.es and developm.nt of carcinom. suggests a chronic m.taplasia due to an irritating/inflam.atory causative factor. Surgical excision of the m.ss and relocation of the stom. is the m.instay of therapy, with possible benefits from.adjuvant chem.therapy. Newly developed lesions at stom. sites should be biopsied to rule out the possibility of this rare ileostom. com.lication.
